Lobster Fishing: what am i doing wrong?

so i am a gm fisherman.

i now got a quest to catch 10 fred lobsters. so i bought 100 lobster traps. I sail to the deep sea with my tokuno ship and launch 2 traps with as much distance between them as possible. after a minute or so i either catch something or don't, either way i am pulling both traps in, sail 2 screens further and repeat. I do that because i don't know how fast an area will be fished empty, and i have the impression that a trap is always lost when an area is empty.

anyway, finishing the quest takes forever. 4 hours fishing, i still have only 5 fred lobsters. Either i am making a significant mistake or the system is seriously flawed. it would be total nonsense if finishing such a worhtless quest would take 8-10 hours.

I fished a good deal of freds up on my boat, parked on the shoreline across from Jhelom. On the mainland beach area.

No trick to it, I am GM also. Do more than one quest at a time so you accomplish twice as much Maybe Freds prefer to be near shores?

put down 4-5 at least and wait a few minutes, if you see them bob grab them immediately, then repeat, i was getting a few dozen lobsters per spot this way.

Is it just me or do the fishing spots seem inexhaustible now?

I will drop a whole row of traps along the side of my ship, sometimes the other side. I don't care about proximity, and I get a good haul. Try it, maybe it will work for you!

Throw out 15 or 20 traps at a time. In rows, columns etc.

The fishing Quests are far from worthless......

There is a tiered POINTS system connected with the fishing quests.

In order to unlock better and more rewarding (including for powerscrolls...) Quests one needs to advance with these apparently "worthless" Quests but which provide needed points to advance with the system.

So, they are far from being worthless because they allow to progress with the tiered fishing Quests system.

I'm finding the fishing seem inexhaustible as well.

My trouble with the lobsters is much like the room for the colors in SA. My connection and internet speed are FAR too slow. Usually by the time the thing bobs I can't get to it fast enough to click it.. Or I think I've clicked the heck out of it.... but I never pick it up and it goes down to the depths.

yes you can, as long as your hold has the room for multiple quests at once

ive been working with 6 lobster traps simultaneously now. thanks for the hint! it now is a little faster, but i still keep losing a lot of traps. catching the required lobsters seems impossible. i caught another 2 fred lobsters in 3 hours!

i understand that things shouldn't be too easy for the player, but do they have to be a total nuisance? first i was happy about the new fishing content, now i probably will stone the skill away again and do something useful with my time.

At first, I thought it might be due to the new fish weights. But I have to agree, it seems as if High Seas has removed "the fish do not seem to be biting here" messages. (If you recall before you are done fishing you can still get the biting message though, hehe)

I believe lobster traps are intended to be lost ... maybe not a "gold sink," being they're relatively cheap, but because sooner or later there seems to be no way to get to their bobbing in time.

Like Joanna, I prefer shore fishing. I will post a picture of how I prefer to fish the most:

This pic is off Moonglow docks ... can do as many as 4 across, in two rows if you find the space, and you don't have to move to get them all back. From this set I got a Spiney, Norm L4, Norm C3. Not sure if traps off dock hurt your chances at some of the rare ones, however ...

dungeness crabs might be found in dungeons ... probably tongue-in-cheek response to Tancred, who called out the devs for misnaming the crab, hehe, but Book 4 jokes around about dungeness crabs first being found only in dungeons, then found everywhere else ;P

Place with dungeon only fish gives same crabs and lobsters like sea market. Probably you need 106+ fishing for rare stuff
