Legitimate Concern With Ending Scripting

What IS the truth is that a MAJORITY of the players DO NOT USE said program, and thus Mythic is trying to preserve the proper game for proper players.

I'd love to know how you came to know that as a 'truth' or a 'fact'.

Side note: Capitalizing one word of a sentence doesn't make it correct.

A new player that come to UO & push the button for weeks and get built up. Unless a friend tells them use this program everyone else does. The new player that plays UO clean decides at some point there has to be something more then liches. Goes to fel and gets gank or chased at a dead run while getting repete flamestrikes or my favorite stream of Xpots tossed at them.

I envy the new generation that starts playing UO after the 3rd party blocker has been in effect for a while. Once the waves settle and they can call themselves vet players. They will have richer UO "there I was" stories then any player that started in the last 7-9 years.

er, I guess I'm in that category ... I have never used illicit proggies on my system yet I can maintain my stock of resources quite satisfactorily TYVM.

While I can see the point you make and understand how someone can get roped into the illegal side of things, anyone who has read the ToS knows that they place their account in danger should they decide to continue the usage of those same items.

Myself, I value my UO existence and therefore I don't/won't use things like that nor even mention to new players anything but approved items that might be used (Cartographer, UOA and a few others for CC), or steer them to EC.

Randomly making blind accusations about other players that you haven't the first iota about doesn't make for "truth" or "fact" either.

First.. It's still a big IF that they follow through on any of what they've said. But, assuming they do.. I have one issue with it, in particular with resource gathering.

It seems the majority of people who complain about resource gathering scripting are mostly angered at those who do this in mass and try to sell the gold, etc, and hurt the economy. However, I know many individual players that do it for their own uses such as filling bods, having ingots to craft armor and the like. Now, in a perfect UO.. This is still a big problem because it does hurt those who mine legitimately, no matter how small this number of people is.

Okay now I'll get to the point. If scripting as it is now is ended, then my concern is those who seek to really make the money off the game, will find another way/program/whatever to still keep doing it.. and because prices will be driven up by your casual scripters being gone, They'll make even way more money off the game than they already do, and damage the economy. Then, you'll have the super greedy people abusing the game, while the casual player is hurt even worse because of the change.

I fear something like this would happen. Even in other games I won't name that have "anti-cheating" utilities.. Those who want to cheat still do, and get away with it enough to profit immensely.

first.. the client doesn't care WHY you run an unapproved 3rd party program.. whether it's a farming operation to convert for real life cash, or the occasional weekend player who wants to automate some activities while they watch a movie on their other screen... the client *should* take the appropriate action on an account when it's confirmed there is usage of a 3rd party unapproved program... as well it should.... let the chips fall where they may.

second... if players continue to test the edges of the anti-cheat efforts of UO, then UO should continue to use the tools they are developing. This shouldn't be a "once and done" operation. Staying up on the means/methods some players use to get an unfair advantage should always remain a top priority for our development team.

Because I am against scripting, cheating, whatever you want to paint with your broad brush strokes, doesn't mean I am doing any of those and you suggest with your allegations. If you are going to accuse any of us, then do so and don't beat around the bush.

I personally think there is a concerted effort by the scriptors and cheaters to convince EA/Mythic not to implement the anti-script/cheat part of the patch. Are you afraid you can't play without our crutches? Can't compete with us button-pushers? Or that you won't have your unfair advantage any more?

It wasn't really a blind accusation.

I base my opinions off of my own personal experiences, which indicates that everyone has at one point or another worked a skill in the game while not being at their keyboard. Whether it was a script or jamming a penny in their keyboard to hold something down.

If your logic is wrong, do you still want it at your side buddy?
