It saves you from death once every 30 mins. If an attack would reduce you to 0 Health, the Last Stand kicks in and keeps you barely alive. You can still get killed with the next hit though. The consistent 12-20% Damage Reduction that Swampy Armor gives in PvM is better, and now Last Stand is useless for PvP as well.
They are still very powerful pet. To be honest with last stand being meant for pvp rather than pvm instead of the nerf just remove it
I think it’s still interesting for pvm. Spell casters, bards and non warrior temps might benefit from it.
I think last stand for PvP would have been way too powerful. I honestly wanted it to stay so I could have a little more peace of mind when playing on siege, but I get that it would make PvP really boring.

I'm really curious who the 'Last Stand' is for? As a pure mage, I will either cast a tree or colossus and those take 5 slots so I use an ethy. Maybe bard if they aren't casting summons. Fisher can't fish while mounted.
