L shape staircase directions

I did a little writeup for Patty, they are very easy and once you get comfortable with the contortions you have to go through to get chopped up stairs to work then you can do lots of neat stuff with them!

The basic L shape staircase:

1. The black tiles are where your stairs will be, the teleporter tiles are where the landing is going to be.

2. First you put down the double set of stairs that will be deleting the "anchor" part of the staircase.

3. Hit your transparancy button two times so you can see the teleporter tiles to delete them:

4. Select the story you are working on so everything becomes visible again.

5. Place a new double set of stairs, facing north:

6. Now erase the original set of stairs you placed (both of them) so that in doing so you delete the bottom part of the two staircases you just built. Do not directly erase either of the two staircases you built in step 5!

7. Put down four telporters again:

8. Replace the two original staircases that you put down:

9. Repeat step 3 (hitting transparancy twice and erasing the teleporters) and step 4 (hitting the floor selection button):

10: Now decide if you want a short wall to go under the landing. If you use the type of stairs that has a matching wall with medium height walls you can use those, or get decorative (or leave the space empty and use for storage, etc):

11. If the stairs you are using don't have a matching middle height wall type and there is enough room you can use the stairs themselves as a wall. Place four teleporters as shown:

12. Place two stairs to line up on top of the teleporters:

13. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to get rid of the excess staircase:

14. Depending on what you do with the floor above, you may need to put in a support column in the crook of the staircase:

Thank you heaps for this - I had always wondered how it was done and always thought it way to complicated but your tutorial explains it in a way that simplifies it for us not so gifted decorators.

TY AGAIN! I haven't tried it yet, but it seems much easier than the spiral. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it later in the week.

I must ask, and I mean this with sincerity... how does one discover that putting teleporters under a set of stairs and then deleting them, will also delete the stairs??? I am truly amazed by the people who came up with this!!!

aye Patty, I'm always thankful for folks like Sarsmi and Crackhead Bob, I'm far too much of a chicken to try anything the likes of what they dream up

'sides, I didn't even know there was such a thing as x-y axis (or whatever it is) and would have lived my entire UO life without ever thinking to try a deco tool on a goza mat

thanks to all the brave decorators!! :D

Thank you! Now I actually understand how it works. I've read stuff on them before, but just didn't 'get' it.

Now I just have to manage rooves. I can't seem to get the hang of those at all. I end up with a higglety pigglety mess with holes in.

The first mention I saw of cut up staircases was a picture someone posted of some chopped stairs in a house on an asian shard, I don't remember which one it was. And then a scramble to figure out how it was done, and I think someone ended up translating a deco site about it, it was a while ago but I don't think any of us here figured it out.

BTW someone posted recently that any kind of floor type works, not just teleporters - I'm so used to doing teleporters tho I forget that and just do them anyways. :)

Roofs are easy! :D

Best way for you to figure out roofs is to sit down and play with all the little roof parts, making little roofs and seeing how the bits fit together. :)
