Killing Pirates

Is there some sort of trick to killing the pirates?? We killed all the crew members first as to not get hindered by them, then we have shot 180 heavy cannon balls into the pirate ship and not the slightest bit of damage has been done to it.

We ended up fleeing from the pirate as we had no ammo left in the end to do anything to it but 180 shots and no damage? Is this how its meant to be or were we doing something wrong to damage the boat??

I don't think it's intended, but I get better results with heavy grapeshot actually damaging the ship. Takes about 15 shots of heavy grape, and we poured about 30 heavy cannonballs into one.

Ok cool, thanks for advice on grapeshot ill have to camp out on emporium again tmorrow and just try again using that tactic instead.
