Killing Gypsies - the moral debate

Its the fact that the Devs are ENCOURAGING us to kill them that is the problem. How about they start putting rares on all female NPC's too, to ENCOURAGE us to go out and kill women?

I would never hit a woman in real life, but I have attacked succubi and female brigands in-game. You need to have some disconnect here and realize that by putting the moonstone jewelry on gypsies, they are giving a game purpose to them. This has nothing to do with gypsies in real life. As far as I know, nobody ever slaughtered them in real life to obtain moonstone bracelets from them and fortunately, I've never seen a necromancer in real life raise the dead. That would be highly offensive to me!

So, would you be ok if they gave all the black NPC's a rare drop then basically said "ok guys, go out and kill all the blacks for the rare drop"? This too has nothing to do with blacks in real life, but you really think there wouldnt be an outcry?

So ... its ok to give us a reason and encourage us to kill gypsies in game, but not blacks?

If so then I guess we have a lot more racists than I thought in Uo...

they put rare drops on certain pixels already, art work can be altered, and i am sure with a little messing around i could change a slasher of veils to look like Hitler, or even make it look like osama bin Laden, then if i killed a mob that is made to look like osama, am i racist against the Muslim community? Do you all realize how idiotic this is arguing about a creature, yes creature one that is mindless, there is another point why not cry that a gypsy in the game is mindless, and not make it steal from player, as it is often implied that gypsies are thief's, it does not imitate nor imply to imitate real life what so ever.

This thread should be in the rants section as it is exactly that a rant because a mindless game creature is being killed.

Everybody, shut the hell up about the Holocaust unless you yourself are a Jew or a Rom. None of you have any goddamn idea what you're talking about; you are causing more offense by blindly going "OMFG HOLOCAUST" to back up your frankly ridiculous arguments than the devs ever could with this mechanic; and comparing an ethically questionable quest in a computer game to one of the worst atrocities in human history is going to achieve nothing but get this fast-tracked to S'n'R and **** off everybody who actually has a personal connection to the Holocaust and the victims thereof.

I don't care what your position is. I honestly don't care. Going "JUST LIKE THE HOLOCAUST LOL" to prove your point makes you look like a pack of goddamned morons. No, it is not like the Holocaust. It is a game. Find something else to compare it to, and stop acting like you all have the moral high ground because you can trot out the murder of ten million people to prove an example about a fictional goddamned world.

Yes, I agree that it is ethically questionable to encourage players to mass-slaughter an in-game race named after a racist slur for several real-world ethnic and cultural groups (did you know that the word "gypsy" has been used in regard to the Roma, the Sinti, and the Irish Travellers? Did you know they were seperate groups? I'll bet you didn't, did you?) But stop using the Holocaust as an example. You have no right to. It's not yours to use.

I tried killing gypsies in fel On my mage/myst char. any spell I cast on them nothing happened. They just walked around like no one even attacked them.
I tried evs, and RC they wouldn't even attack the gypsies.

I seen plain bracelets spawning one and awhile on gypsies. I have also had 1 plain necklace spawn on a gypsy corpse. but nothing rare

Have you unchecked the "warn on criminal flag" in the option menu? I can bash the gypsies just fine in felucca. Melee tho, not using spells.

The chests give more regs, meaning stacks over 1000. The amount of gems seems to be the same from gypsies and chests.

Wouldn't it be nice, if NPCs in Trammel gave murder counts again? Poor Gypsies ...

yes it is unchecked. in trammel I cast RCs to kill the red npcs while I'm using lock picking to open the chests, the RCs also target the gypsies. In fel red npcs spawned where I was at I cast a RC to kill them, and at that time the gypsies, and a tent spawn. The RC totally ignored the gypsies so I tried other spells none worked.

The only way you could get offended over anything in this game is if they actually followed racial slurs IE:

You kill a black NPC and a watermelon is on the corpse
You kill a gypsy and find "a stolen watch"
You kill a white bald NPC and it has a white hood and robe

Get over it, its not real, let it go.
