Just lost an ethy and a wierd new bug?

Had one of my chars at the Ice Fiends for a diversion and to get some Fame/Karma back. Have done this hundreds of times over the years. Just using Peace and EV's, when all of a sudden I see a "poof" under me (you know the one where you're knock'd off your mount) and I'm now running on foot instead of riding my ethy. So I check my backpack, not there - double check again, not there. Running out of ideas, I check the 3 fiend corps on the floor and not there either. Log off/on, still not there. Very annoying. So I go to the house and finally find another ethy that I kept as a spare from a closed account years ago. Go back to the Ice Fiends and try to cast a 2nd EV and it tells me that I have too many followers. Look at my status and it says I have 4 followers. Hmmmm... Wait for my EV to time out and disappear. Check status and it says I have 2 followers.... Hmmmm..... Log out/in and it says I now have 1 follower, which it should. So UO was still seeing me as riding my disappeared ethy..... Very wierd and I hope not a bug that will persist...

I was having this problem recently. (Last month?) Only it was my warhorse disappearing. It ended up being in the stable. It's the exact same thing though. Running around on the horse then *bam* I am on the ground with no horse anywhere. Logging completely out and back in might help (closing the game completely) but it being an Ethy... I honestly have no idea. I hope you find your ride.

I think we have a random bug with ethys. I and many others have had this happen over the last few months, ever sence they redid Shame. You got the sound of you being dismounted and saw the poof... that meant your ethey went bye bye. GM's wont replace, and will tell you its a known issue. All I can say is report it to the bugs site and hope they can find out whats doing it. Reporting it and giving all the data you have on where and when will help them narrow it down. Sorry kiddo.

I hate when stuff like this happens to players

First, I would try out the suggestions above.
Second, if you are on Chessy, although I do not have a spare ethy, I do have a small amount of gold saved up. I am sure between myself and a few other people donating like small amounts, we could get you a replacement right quick.

As a related aside, I just read this story from PC Gamer about Blizzard implementing an automated replacement system. UO doesn't have a system to track items once they have been deleted, so GM's can't verify its existence to replace the item. I just wonder how Blizzard/WOW prevents abuse of the system.

This was Ice Dungeon on Tram inside the Ice Fiend "room's" so not much running involved, but no, I hadn't noticed running slower. It was the classic "horse" ethy. The really odd part (that I think might give the Dev's a clue here) is that (even after my first re-boot of the client) the system (UO) thought that I was riding 2 ethys. I was on foot but it (for a short time) thought I had a follower (and this char is a thief, so obviously had no pets that would show up).

Were you having to run up the stairs and go outside the room a lot to kill any fiends that spawned outside the room? If you did, I wonder if there was some kind of lag that made the game see your ethy horse as a real horse for even a few seconds and it took some kind of damage from the fiends or even your EVs that "killed" it. And since there's no bonding process, that death would have been permanent. I don't know. It's the only thing that makes any kind of sense to me. Was the ethy still "transparent" when you last used it, or had it been hued to look solid? I'm not sure that would have made any difference, but wonder if it might have had any effect on what you saw after you got dismounted.

Tina most of the players including my son which i was watching at the time his poofed were not running, Standing still killing the creatures. My son's case he got the measage he was dismounted then the *poof* and sound of a timer going off as in the rope for town rioters. The charger was not new per say and never droped on the ground to start a decay timer... We did all of hte suguestions of loging out and in, recalling to a different area in and out of facit, emptying pack of everything.... the whole list of how to's but no charger was there nor any sign of a hidden item. Though the op's sounds like he was in what we use to have back in the day of a double mount showing up when your lagged or out of phase with the server. I for one think the dev have a bug on their hands in this.

Best thing to do at this point is to make sure that you are unmounted when you log out tonight. I have heard of them reappearing after server up.

when it was showing as still under your control slots you should have paged a GM then.

cause it was probably in your "pet pack" that is associated with your character.
ive had pets go missing before and the GM was able to pull them out of there.

very similar to the pet pack you have when you do a shard transfer.

but if its no longer showing under your control slot, then your probably SOL.

No Tina, I always recall into the small room that never has Fiends inside it. I don't bother going "outside" into the dungeon proper.

I am not that concerned about the loss of the ethy - per se - but it's obviously a bug that I hope takes another 12 or so years to hit me again....

This exact thing happened to my boyfriend and his ethy polar bear a while ago. We managed to get it back, and this is how we did it. Since his char still showed a follower slot I wondered what what happen if I "added" another pet. So I took his char to the stables and claimed his poor neglected "real" horse and mounted it. No change. He still had one follower slot occupied. I dismounted - and lo and behold - I now found the polar bear statue nicely tucked away in the backpack!

I don´t know if it has gone too long for you to fix the issue this way, but you could at least give it a try.
