Is that a scam? I don't know; However, I got a great deal for you!

If you give me money up front, I will sell you a bridge. My company is called BS Co and we been selling bridges for the last 8 years.

There are some very good builders in our game, and most are just trying to get their business going with the new economy, which is almost impossible.

However, without references I wouldn't ever give money up front. And when I say references, I don't mean just one or two, I want to see properties built and talk to people that trusted this person before.

they used to do that alot in game. They would become a roommate with build privaleges and after they get paid like half the money they start building, get the other half when the job is complete and then move out. Like they said though, never give anyone money for the job without knowing everything right down to the color of their undies...OK maybe not NOT much but at least a whole lot

This is also a well known tactic that mafias use to tear down your house. They wipe out all your building structures then leave. Build permissions are set at default so that no roomie gets them without your permission for a reason. Be careful who you give build rights to in your home.

You are so correct in this statement. Unfortunately it has happened to so many in the past. I agree that I would have to know this person extremely well, they must have references and I too would not give the full amount up front before on single wall is built or one tile is laid.

I too like to build, so I would never pay someone to do what I love doing myself. If I don't do the building, then my husband does.

As a builder, I only would ever take half up front. (And I have PLENTY of people that I built for to prove i'm not a scammer). But it's so hard to do this type of thing anymore. People scam builders all the time, so we have to be careful as well. Always go for half up front, the rest when finished. I think that's fair. I'd also ask for people they've built for to ask if they scammed or not.

The way the guy talks isn't very proffessional. I'd be more likely to trust someone with a website full of pictures, references that I could contact, and obvious business sense.

Its also odd for someone to just randomly come up to you and say all of that. Thats very direct and simple. Sounds too much like someone trying to turn a quick buck.

Trial and error can be fun n.n I rebuilt the bulk of my house 3 times before I got it to a look I enjoy XD Same with paint and flooring. There used to be some proffessional builders around who were really fantastic, but as the name implies, they were very proffessional and full of references, pictures, and proper grammar.

I would not trust any references from anyone I do not know. I learned this the hard way. I checked references in DC for a trader. I got good references. However, I think they turned out to be his own sims. Seeing as he robbed me.

Anyone can make a website and throw pictures of anyone elses houses on it. Now with everyone having 8 sims at least in EA Land. That is 7 references they could give. Check the friends webs look for any red on the last page. Check the age of the sim. If it has recently been recreated do not trust them. A trusted builder will be well known.

The best way to buy a house from anyone else is through secure trade. New builders will need to use this to get well known.

Trust your instincts. Ask around in game and you will get names of well known builders.

Aaaw...that stinks!! I'm sorry that happened to you. Especially since I remember how expensive everything was in DC. What a crappy thing to do. How do people sleep at night when they do garbage like that to other people??

Worst of all it hasn't stopped and I doubt it ever will. With those trying to be lazy and steal from honest, for the most part, people. All we can trust in is that they will get their just desserts. Let's hope and pray!

Sounds like a scam that has been going on for a long time and I want to add a warning about the "roofer" scam that works the same way. Basically it is "I can make a roof art picture for you", what really happens, they get build rights and rip your house down and they get a bonus if you give them any money upfront. I have seen this happen so many times over the years. Don't give anyone Build Rights on your lot, too may people have way too many accounts and bad intentions.
