Just started working hiding and stealth and was wondering is there some kind of guide on how to work stealth? Ive heard at certain levels you have to wear certain types of armour to gain in the skill and was wondering if this was true and if so what armor for what level of skill is needed.

This is all we have, lol. A bit old...la

How do I raise Stealth?

Again stealth is movement based so you should head out on a boat and start 8x8ing once you hit 80.1 hiding. But the difference from stealth is that its ALSO difficulty based, meaning you must "challenge yourself" for gains, or do it where you fail around 40% of the time.
Here is a Chart made by Lord Lythande that I and many others follow:
0-30 Buy from Thief Guildmaster
30-65 Stealth with only newbie clothes and a robe on
65-95 GM Full Studded Leather Suit
95-GM GM Full Studded Leather Suit and GM Close Helm

Let me add that with the changes done to the RNG 8X8 should not work anymore. On the positive side there are no more "movement based" or "target based" skills.

Good point. It's too bad though. I miss heading out to sea to train, and while out there nab a few scripter's loot while doing my training...la

Watch your tongue friend. There are still some out there who feel that if you believe in something with all your heart and soul, it will magically become true. And they wouldn't take to kindly to your blasphamy of their sacred 8x8. So in a sense, I suppose 8x8 still works. ;)

Seriously, This is a big improvement when working stealth. 8x8 was a joke. I was so happy to hear that it was removed when I returned a few years back.

And to the OP, the "chart" rico posted is still the best method to train by. I used that for all my training, only difference was I set up a treadmill in my house to walk on, just because (for some reason) only half my characters will auto log if they stand still for too long, even when using skills. (Thats why if you see my scribe making recalls, he moves position after every 100 or so scrolls) Also, if you can get your hands on a skill tutor statuette, that will help a lot too. I wasn't able to get myself one until after I had GM'd stealth, but just for the hell of it I started stealth on another char, and used the statue as a guide, it works pretty well, but the results were just about perfectly in line with the method that everyone already uses.

Assuming they havent changed it a good way of training it is to use the autohide thing after you use a moongate - it lets you bypass the hiding skill delay (ie use moongate, move, rinse and repeat)

I did not think you could buy skill on Seige. Can you? If so, do you know where I can find the Thief Guildmaster? Thank you

You can't buy it, you have to use skill jewelry to get your stealth as high as you can, then train it by hand, at lower levels its an absolute nightmare, but it does get easier after a while

Rico usually says try the cove for a GM, apparently some of them are bugged these days

Not sure if this is RoC tested but If you set up teleporters on each end of a room one teleports you to the 1st and set your mouse to follow cursor hit stealth then walk from one to the other it teleports you to the other side of the room and (following cursor) stealth to the same teleporter yada yada !

just hide when ya fail!
