Is the stratics guide of this shard still valid?

In the guide, it mentions all the chests are full of loot, locked and trapped. Is being a rouge who opens these chests still a valid template in modern SP?

If by FULL means a few hundred gold and 2 or 3 other items, yes.
Dungeon crawling can be quite profitable and the only skill you really need is Lockpicking. Just have 100+ HPs and a 70 Fire resist Suit and you can take any hit from the chest.
Might also want to have Magery to heal up afterwards, and be able to cure the occasional Poisoned chest.

That guide looks pretty good, but read the Mythbusting sticky thread at the top of this page.

A great way to make initial gold is to shear sheep in the sheep pens in yew, and turn it into cloth. Cloth sells for ~350 gp/bolt, so you can make your starter gold pretty quick.

I also farmed mummies for gold, bottles, bandies, and garlic.

You'll be pk'd occasionally, don't let it get you down, it's all part of the game. Just be sure to bank often, so you don't lose much. Also, contact the NEW guild. They are very helpful for new players.

Then you will also need Hide/Stealth. Join the party that is Siege.
Also might want to pick up Ninja. Stealth at speed and quick HP Regen.
You can even HP Regen through the poisons.

Ive been training my remove trap up, doing the dungeon crawl thing. I have ninja, hide, stealth, fencing. I can hide, smoke bomb, or shadow strike. The animal forms let me move quickly when necessary. I am training remove trap and detect too, which isn't necessary, but I am making some fair loot. The best items Ive found in chests so far are some nice jewelry pieces. The weapons and armor have so far stunk. It is a nice break from fighting or farming though.

You can occasionally pull something nice from a dungeon chest, but not very often. It is a reasonable way to pick up gold with little/no risk.
