I run into people sometimes, and find a very rare few, if any that well even respond in character (IC) if I address them IC.

I don't necessarily mean the Thee's and Thou's type stuff, but even if I attempt to converse with players and stay in character about current events, almost no one does the same.

I understand that the RP in MMOrpG was lost long ago, but I was curious if there are any others out there that really still RP.

Thanks.

That's a pretty closed group, isn't it?

I would only register there if invited.

Some of my, tales, may seem a bit ... off kilter ... to those entrenched in specific ideologies.

If anyone speaks to one my characters IN character on this shard then I respond in kind. But since people these days only seem to speak to me to either a) try and sell me something b) beg ( and not in a Grifty manner, which would be welcomed, but in a " I'm a lazy bastage and can't be bothered to get my own cash/items but thinks the UO world owes me a living " way ) c) brag about something totally irrelevant, then what is the point ?

Stay in character. I've been doing a few days worth of RP as a Chaos Guard at Blackthorn's castle. If anyone saw me, I said "Lord Casca will be making his appearance latter today. Please move along" People called me odd things, tried to buy my Sash, and I just roleplayed! Did anyone see me? Char name Seth =D

AI CAN RP SEE?

Its a strange thing for me... I give and recieve on the RP front depending on who I'm talking to, but only if I have to these days. I'm quite good at the whole business, but I find myself getting carried away and far more amused by abusing RP practices, or confusing people. I suppose my griefing days still lurk deep down *stares out of the window, as if the weight of the world is bearing down upon his shoulders*

I think my main problem is the fact that no matter even if I try to get involved with the storylines, I'm always extremely aware that its just a game, and just as in life, if something isn't genuinely occurring, I just find it amusing and can't delve into the realism of the experience. I'm one of those people who turns around at the end of a sad movie to the girl crying next to me, and says "Don't worry it's not really happening, it's just a movie." But don't get me wrong, I still enjoy that movie in my own little way

RP is alive and thriving from my experiences. Go to one of the tavern nights, rp and see where it leads. I stayed blue for the longest time before choosing a guild and still had interaction. As long as your expectations are reasonable and your rp concept is reasonable (Not God, Lord British, Chewbacca and Darth Vader's love wookie, etc) you will get interaction if you are patient and consistent.

As JC said.. try the rp forum. I don't know why you feel you need an invitation to go to a public forum unless there's some past stuff with them we don't know about. It isn't a club and this isn't highschool, its a community and it's open to any individual from my experience who contributes positively to that feeling of community. *smiles*

I don't think they would shun me or anything of the like, but I just sort of hate to plop myself down in the middle of any running storylines they may have going.

I will go over and give it look though!

I can understand that, but no popping in plots is necessary to attend a tavern and just begin building some interaction with folks. *smiles* I look forward to meeting your character(s) in game.

I do roleplay and I do not think that what happens there is "fake" in anyways. Beleifs are dead truths. Some people will wake up later on and realise how much more important than their daily actions the realm of imagination can have upon their lives.

They'll come running at my feet begging me to explain what I think, I'll spit on thee, comfortable suburber who's sitting in a cinema show.

Now I'm still ready to go there, but noone is willing to give me a chance, so be it. I don't need to be there to be there.

I'm certain many people who've participated to my thread don't even play daily and could lend me their accounts for me to use, but somehow perhaps they think that I made all this up to get a free account, and that I can't be trusted.

Well don't come running back at me if the world flips inside out again ; I remember every happening and every judgement of virtue.

RP in UO [and all MMO's] has always been restricted to small RP communities. The average player doesn't care or want to roleplay, they just wanna play the game. So of course your interactions, trying to RP with normal people is not going to get the result you want.
Best to look on the Atlantic RP community.

To answer the original question - Is RP dead on Atlantic?

Yes, and no.

The reason I'd say yes, is because the golden lords of the RP community moved on, oh, about four or five years ago. They went on to greater things, either entering the industry as designers or community types, or merely slipping into torpor like an antedilluvian should. Aleph, Azalin, Grishnak, Dayel, all moved on. I remain, sure, but I'm incredibly retired, and only sneak out to hunt the occasional new monster and dust myself off.

But, the reason that I say no is that the legacy of the RP giants of previous generations persists. Sanctus still kicks around, so does Moonglow. Umbra and Clan Cappadocious are the new "baddies" on the scene descendent from a long line of influence from the original Lich Lord. The resurrection of the EM program, although ultimately doomed to blazing failure, does offer an opportunity for renewed activity and growth in the RP community. So, give it a shot, see what happens.

And as for involvement? RP is a unique style of play, and prides self-insinuation above all else. If you want to play, jump in with your own story that compliments the one you see running. Add flavor and make your character contribution important. Imposition is key to establishing the boundaries of a character new on the scene, so make a splash.

For my own part... it seems awefully ridiculous that EA even after me paying the game for years, and serving as a companion for 3-4 hours per day for a year ; wont even let me play on their server for ONE silly day.

Can you beleive that ?:yell:

RP is alive. I usually RP 2-3 times a week when I have the time. All in good fun, despite what some of the D3WDZ would say.

The community will accept anyone who wants to just rp and have fun. I've seen you at some of the bigger functions. Just come into a tavern and start rp'ing. Oh, and talk and say hi. That quiet stranger in the corner usually don't get as much rp as the one who comes in and does something. Even if you are aloof or shy, emote it. There is usually rp somewhere. Heck, the only one we'd ask you to play along with is if you are in Skara, it's going through a horrible blizzard. :p As far as the forums, say hi.

Roleplay is definately not dead. I have been around for over 10 years and seen lulls in numbers but never have I seen it die completely.

You don't need to be invited but if you feel you must be to join the website then please consider yourself invited. The more faces we see the more fun we have. (I say this because I own and run the ARPC site and know that we welcome anyone who wishes to participate or I would not sponsor this site at all.)

You can check out a few things like every monday night there is a tavern night somewhere. The schedule is in the Great Assembly Hall section stickied to the top or every other Sunday there is a Protectorate meeting held in Britain Castle. This is the good guys of the community, all the light guilds pretty much and they 'represent' the Britiannian government. The bad guys also have meetings but being that I am a good guy I am not privy to their schedule. *grins*

Join us please, we would love to roleplay with you and anyone that you want to bring along.

Hope to see you soon.

And then there are those of us who are neutral. Moonglow for instance. Although currently, it appears we're facing somewhat of a rebellion, while at the same time looking to elect/appoint a new Mayor. Will be interesting, to say the least :)

Roleplay is always super solid. I just came back for a bit a few days ago, and while things are a little slow it seems, it is all good in the hood.

Plus, from what I understand, even with the slower times, Atlantic still has one of the more vivid and populated RP communities on UO.

I know I have had fun since my return even if I have only had time to RP like twice.

Yes, RP is dead everywhere and Stratics killed it. Remember back in the days of yore... if you had a question, you had to approach someone IN GAME and ask them. Often, if you just blurted out some question you would be ignored. You were forced to ask in character. Patience and respect were required if you wanted your questions answered.

But then along came Stratics and all it's statistics and calculators and boards filled with (mis) information. Who needed to talk anymore? Why ask and goodness... why even pretend to ask "in-character" when you can just post a question filled with typos and grammatical errors... and still get an answer! In fact, many answers!

Sometimes even from the Devs themselves. Try getting an answer from a "Dev" in game or even on the EA website.

Yes, we have Stratics to thank for the death of the (RP) in MMORPG. Now it's just a bunch of idiots running around asking for free stuff.
Actually I think IM programs like ICQ & Voice programs like Vent as well as in-game systems like Party chat, Guild chat and Alliance chat have far more to do with the silence in the game than websites like Stratics. There were quite a few good websites you could go to for information back in the day and we all still talked quite a bit.

I'd be happy to help you out ooc if you want some pointers. I know many in the community would be willing to as well. Rp takes patience and practice. PM me if you'd like my ICQ.
