Yes, I am full of questions its seems. My 40th warlock is far from a tank, obviously but that is a valid question. It seems to me that the ability bumps are greater on staves but the orb's a warlock can cast/earn are fantastic if you have a one handed blade.

I have chosen for now at least to use a sword and an orb. It is so funny as I adventure with my wifes warrior who is also 40th. She will announce her damage like, "328, 225, 349!" So of course I have to add mine, "21, 35, crit baby! I hit for 55!"

It is obvious warlocks are not meant to do damage comparible to a warrior, but I think the lessened damage number is a good trade for the orb choices we get.

So for you, which is it, a staff or a blade? Why?

I've always favored a sword and offhand for reasons of aesthetics, because I disliked having a staff across my gnome's back, jabbing through her hat brim. But the conjured stones become much less spectacular down the road. Since warlocks don't melee much I usually found it more useful to have something equipped that added stamina, intellect, or spell damage.
