The trick is to recall around to different NPCs, not just use one.

But yes, I would like to see them sell 999 from the start as well...

Come on now, the Devs dont want the game to get wayyyy out of Balance...Yes, there's hundreds of duped Valorite Hammers and artifacts literally dripping out of every Sosarian pore, but damnit, if you're allowed to buy more than 20 scrolls at a time, you could completely ruin the economy with an evil Scroll Buying script....didntchaknowthat?

that trick is not working, seems there are about 5 maybe 6 people doing that, i see them recalling all around to the mage shops i am checking out.. of course they all bought up.

at this rate it will be all night long before i get anything.

I agree with the fact that buying scrolls is a pain in comparison to buying other things. For one, they are heavy and on top of that, not usually stocked very high.

You might try crafting blank scrolls instead. You need a cook who can make wood pulp out of bark fragments but if you're training inscription it really is the way to go. I used my cook to convert a good 200 bark fragments into wood pulp (1 pulp = 5 scrolls when you use inscription).

Not only is it quicker to get scrolls if you're prepared, you also have the benefit of making use of all those bark fragments and while you're in your house, you don't have to worry about lugging all those scrolls back with you.

ussually get 25 or so per run and one wood pulp makes 5 scrolles or one scroll binder

Of course it works I've been doing it for 12 years.

Let me tell you how to actually buy scrolls.

Mark runes in library where the scribes are, at both scribes in britain, and at 4-5 mage shops that sell scrolls, and ALL the scribes at the Lyceaum. Get a pack creature. Then you constantly recall and buy them as they spawn. It will take a couple of hours before they give milk. That's what I call it when they spawn 640-999 per buy each.

It will get so good to you that you will not want to stop buying at this point. I've bought 150k scrolls in a day with this method. I've got a whole lot more than that at one of the houses now.

Are you suggesting they are too common, that scrolls are not a rare drop on a spawn in the abyss? :)

*resists temptation to break out the good old Vader-to-Lando exchange*

(MMORPGs are an obstacle course ... some hurdles are low, some are hard and some just break your stride ... that said, I wouldn't cry too much if things changed to unlimited buying, but I don't think it would actually make you any happier in the end)

You do realise that more than just mage shops sell scrolls? There are 9 npc's in Skara Brae alone that sell scrolls. 2 in the mage shop, 2 in the carpentry shop (realestate agents) 2 in the town hall (realestate again) and one in the shipmaker (map maker). Scribes in the libraries also sell scrolls.

That's why it doesn't make sense to scatter the distribution. It could be sold by 500, with the same system that they use for other resources.

When I was training scribe and cartography, I made a rune book of all the fel scroll vendors, including mapmakers, mages, and scribes. Scrolls are cheaper in fel and are rarely sold out, even on Atlantic. By the time I recalled to all the locations and deposited the scrolls in my house, the vendors would all be restocked.

The only problem with changing scrolls to the 500 for sale system is the cost rises 1gp after two purchases of the item. That's why we have citrine selling for over 100gp per gem. Scroll prices would grow quickly making scrolls sell for over 20gp per scroll. These prices don't ever reset until some action to reset them. It would make inscription out of reach for new characters to train. Look at ingots for sale on blacksmiths. They all started at 8gp per and now are selling for over 40gp per ingot on the more used smith npcs.

If we could get the prices to stabilize and not rise I'd be all for the 500 scrolls per npc until thet restock with another 500. This adjustment would help the imbuers too with their gem collection... and then I can stop stalking Ilshenar gypsy camps . They reset to the base prices for the 500 stock items every time the camp moves.

and don't forget the mage shop in the N of Moonglow. There are mages and scribes there, plus the teleport to Papua.

Which is useful if you have a commodity deed box in your house. If you don't, there's still the issue of transporting them from the nearest bank.
what the big deal about transporting them just use a blue bug or buy them in Delucia the mage shop it right next to the bank.
