Ok this makes no sense. How does anyone force anyone off the shard? Gove Freja a break already, she has done more to bring people to siege than probably anyone else. How does it benefit vets to have an empty dead shard? How are the people you mention in charge of anything other than their own enterprizes and guilds? New Pvps get stomped and dry looted???????? Welcome to Siege. If you can't afford to lose it....... Don't wear it. Get killed piss and moan in GC a bit and move on. Some of the people you mention as being driven off the shard or bullied earned their very poor reputations and simply suffered the consequences of their choices. Bo is Bo and is straight up about it and respected because of it. Scammers, cheaters etc become known fairly quickly and no the shard does not need them. Katt has never IMO wanted or expected to be treated any different than anyone else, she just happens to have a lot of friends. If you or anyone else wants to be "Cock of the walk" earn it instead of crying about how the old farts are keeping everyone down.

Diablo had been here on and off sinse the start of Siege. Yes the shard had tryed to drive him off without any success all this years but he sure did some nasty stuff. Doubt he was driven off the shard.

Being a lonely PK will always be hard. Dry loot is often used as ponishment for something. Think the key for a young PK is to find a guild, that fit his playstyle. The changes from VvV may be a help here, as it now will be possible to have crafters in a PvP guild without them being flaged if the PK's choose to join VvV.
A PK, who believe he can survive here, just from PKing and looting his victims won't do well, he need a way to make money, a good guild and maybe a second blue char.
I had seen many new PK guilds join the shard, and start out with dry looting. Some learned, dry looting their victims would get them self dry looted and life would be very hard for them.

Pendragon got bullied out of general chat

Some here complain about players taking to high price for their wares. Pendragon had a problem here, he brought cheap stuff meant for poor players on the shard and sold it for profit on his vendors so I guess he made his bed.

Instead of all this negative complains about Vet players, you should try to do something positive for the shard. What had you done so far?

Speaking as someone who is transitioning to play Siege and Origin, I have found everyone to be extremely helpful. My only issue is that my real life is busy and hopefully after the holidays I will have more time to make the transition.

Morning all,

While I still qualify as a new player to the shard, thought I'd weigh in on this very detailed topic.

I don't know Chad. But kid you not, his webpage was the first thing that got me interested in Siege. I don't play a thief, but his descriptions of the shard and its differences to others intrigued me enough to originally give it a shot.I can honestly say that without him knowing it, he is at least partially responsible for me being here.

As for vets keeping the shard down my experience has been nothing but positive. Vets have helped me every step of the way. I've not been stolen from or pked (yet). I don't think this is because the place has gone care bear, but because I rarely travel with anything of value and the few times I could be pked it didn't make any sense. So no mass murdering yet. when it does happen, and it will, I just hope to have a chance at getting my stuff back, but I accept it as part of the shard.

Maybe if I saw folks in game more it would be different, but I love that people here are strongly opinionated, don't always see eye to eye, and accept a wide range of players. Bo cracks me up for instance, but people seem ok with him, even though on ATL I get the feeling he would be avoided. Here, he is just one of the interesting (though deadly) folks who give siege its flavor.

The game does mean a lot to some people (including me) ands it is easy to get tied up in it, so I understand feeling slighted by another player. But even Katt has said let's move on here.

Anyway, back to the very boring world of taming wolves....

Oh I understand, I have taming, lore and vet sitting on stones in my bank in the 75-80 point range. I love playing a tamer thief, but the time involved in training those skills is a killer...la

Okay since we are getting on the topic of pks and all.. I do want to say something that makes me laugh just about every time I think of it now. When I was first on Siege, maybe about a month later, still frustrated with the other pks that would come after me for my shoes... or just wanted to kill me. There was a pk named Heavenless, now gues before you think im complaining this actually something that makes me smile.. now Katt why would this... shh people.. It was after I was out of New2 and I was making a guild of my own.. NBT I had two characters at the time..Kattasrophe and Katniss. Kattasrophe already had a house. So I decided to make the guild house with my character Katniss. I had made the house open to public thinking that it would be much easier for my guild members if they could just come in instead of waiting for me to friend them... (Very idiotic moment there) so I was lugging logs back to my house to work on carpentry to make furniture for the guild hall.. I had just gotten a new blue beetle for Katniss. I thought my doors were guild members only, and as I now know if you remodel your house the security on your doors reset So here I was in my house trying to come up with some deco ideas.. so I went to google and was scrolling around looking for images to get some ideas.. It was only about 2 minutes later I thought I should probably check my character.. I flip the screen and my world was gray. Heavenless was standing over my body inside the guild house looting me.. the blue beetle didn't make it either.. which sadly for the poor blue beetle was the end for her she wasn't bonded.. (begins giggling even more) So after that Im pretty sure I made a HUGE hissy fit in general chat.. (still kinda working on that..) Some people were saying nice house Katt and other things to push my buttons.. What did they mean nice house? Im confused.... It wasn't until one of my friends said you need to get a stratics account Heavenless took screen shots.. at the time.. for me that was like pure humiliation. I didn't wanna stay didn't wanna fight anymore, but then I remembered something another pk said to me.. ''I doubt she will last a month here'' they have most certainly been wrong about that one.. I made a promise to myself to never leave this shard. I know I have said it in the past.. but i'll make things work out. Now guys... I know you are wondering why I just told you this story. Siege isn't care bear lands. We are just in a tough spot with not many playing. We could always go to the other shard forums and invite people to siege, come up with events and then post them on other shard forums to encourage them to visit.. Even if it was just for a few hours, maybe seeing how we are will make Siege come into their heart. There is so many amazing people on this shard if you come to meet them. You will think of them as family. Here's my in put for what the shard needs to grow again.. Inviting people over from other shards always helps, making more player events and posting it on other shard forums, Maybe invite some of the other pvpers of shards to take a whack at Siege and see how they like it. It never hurts to be kind either. Eh just an idea

One thing we need to be aware of, is the Stratics mods. Apparently they do not take kindly to people trying to *advertise* or *spam* about joining siege. I was once told that there was jealousy and resentment towards uhall posts trying to recruit for siege. I dunno how they would feel about it on shard boards.

There use to be a time where you couldn't advertise shard specific events on UHall as that wasn't what UHall was for. UHall was intended to be the place for general discussion about Ultima Online gameplay, development issues, and related Ultima Online issues. Anything that was shard specific was to be posted on that shard. And that was the issue at that point.
Now it's a different day, a different owner, different ideas, different admins, mods, writers etc. I expect at some point there will be a new ROC as the current one is not being adhered to. I'm going to leave it as that as there are many opinions about who did what and why and where ad nauseum.

Getting back to the OP original post I see this happening all over the different shards. It seems, pretty much, that as soon as a town gets it's banner it stops being active. It's a real shame. Ya work so hard to get something and then all the effort stops. It's sad to me.
It would be a lot of work but I think there should be some sort of system to check that player towns run events periodically and that they must do so in order to keep their banner. It's not too hard to run an event. They can be pretty basic. But if you don't do any events then you lose the banner.

In addition to this, the people of the shard need to support the efforts of those that run events. People need to show up at the events. How often do we see prime time events that players run and maybe 1 or 2 or 3 people show up? After a few times of running an event and no one shows up you start to wonder why you're doing it. Things start to spiral downwards.

Think about it. It doesn't take much to show up at an event and show your Siege support. Next time someone runs an event give up 5 or 10 minutes of your time and go. Who knows things could spiral upwards.

To clarify a few things: I own the Barter Town Tower and am not planning to drop it. Ever. I don't know what may or may not happen to the town stuff either way.

I don't know what happened to The Gooch, but I just got really busy IRL. I'm a self-employed freelancer adn when you get work, you gotta work. I've snuck on a few times in the past few months, just never announced myself in GC. You might be able to imagine why...

Chad only intended to come back for a visit, he never intended to stay. I think he just had all the fun he meant to have and then got bored.

There was no mass exodus, just an unfortunate coincidence of timing.

Fear not, Siege. Barter Town lives on and will, like the locust, periodically return to... I dunno, eat all your food?

Just remember 2 things:
1) If you always knew when we were around, we'd be terrible at our profession. AND 2) there are no thieves on Siege.
