you can tell how new a NEW is by their guild tag, though one with those pets may be reliant on jewels, or it's one of the co-leaders?

KILL Them!!! They are using the NEW guild banner as protection, they are obviously not NEW, though they may have just recently joined NEW.
Either way, they have powerful pets to protect them, so the NEW banner is second rate to the pets... they're on their own if I see them!
You can recieve 5.9 points a day and rune beetle only needs GM or slightly less.
So in less than 2 weeks a person can have these pets.
NEW is supposed to keep member around 30 days to my memory.
This person should be honored for there speed at these skills.

Let us not forget if person uses skill helping scrolls or skill bonus scrolls. If player has the right ones, he could have skills in a week. WOW

I do believe Shal allows players to stay in NEW longer than 30 days if they have not found a guild to join and are not comfortable on their own. In other words, she no longer kicks them out after 30 days.

I would consider having those pets means that they are able to defend themselves, NEW or not, my thief couldn't hold hos own against those pets so i say he has the advantage and is fair game!

How much protection does being in NEW really grant you? Since I've joined, there has been lots of talk in guild chat about getting PKed. Heck, we had PK camping the NEW guild house just the other day. ...and I got attacked yesterday by the worst PK in history. 
Seriously, how can someone be red and do such poor damage to a nub such as myself.
It might aford some protection from those that are more honourable or understand that giving people a chance to get a foothold before PKing them makes for victims with larger gold sacks down the road, but so far, the benefit seems to be that it is a group of people that are all in the same boat and wanting to help each other out. NEW is a great idea and does really help people get started, but you are still going to get attacked/PKed by scrubs.

Also, if you are up for the grind, you can have your important skills into ROI on the first day you create your character. ....if you start early like 6AM and go all day long. I was suprised how quickly you can raise skills.

I don't think Angora is calling them scrubs because they're pks, she's calling them scrubs because they don't respect the NEW guild tag.
People whine and complain that there aren't enough people on the shard, but will sit there and grief the daylights out of new... and granted this is Siege, but the whole 'baptism of fire' crap is well, exactly that, crap.
It's a different ruleset, and takes a bit of getting used to, give the people some time to train to be able to defend themselves, or if you insist on killing them, rez and don't/light loot, giving them a small taste of what's to come. And yes, all you l337 pvp'rs can take anyone out with only 1 skill at 70, your thumb up your bum and all other skills at 20 with Jack of All Trades. But not everyone has won UO like you have, so realize that other people may not be that 'talented.'
There aren't a whole lot of 'true siegers' left, I'm willing to bet I can count on just my fingers the amount of people who are still around that began with this shard, there certainly aren't many, so STFU with your 'this is Siege' very few of you know what Siege was, and it certainly isn't it now. Fact of the matter is, you're going to have to 'convert' those trammies because that's all that you have left, you're not getting an population influx from new accounts, that's for sure. So be nice to the Trammies for a little while and maybe they'll convert and you will have the shard population you desire.
And Lord help them if they decide to visit these Forums, speaking of Trammies, because it's basically just a bunch of bile and whining about faction itembuybacks as of late.

I certainly respect the NEW tag... but to be honest if they have animals like that 1st They should be congratulated, thats some serious skill training, and secondly the NEW tag still means the same, however that person would easily kill me if I stood my ground but i guess they are still in NEW so i should leave em.... but then again they could be a long term player that is helping run the guild... best bet is IMHO is i just leave them when i see them, i am not a PK i am a thief, i have nothing to gain stealing worthless items.

it takes 2 days to get to 80 taming in ROT
with jewls you can have 100
so in a week you can easily have those pets
keep in mind that the person in question is probly reliant on jewls, and also probably does not have many other skills that are alos high
if you have ever played a tamer, you know you cant just run around with a dragon, you need to be able to defend yourself somehow, be it stealth. magery whatever....

Exactly. I am actually sort of confused as to how someone could think that camping the NEW guild house or dry looting people that are trying to work up skills at the graveyard could be a different playstyle.
Nickster makes a good point. Why bother someone if they are not bothering you and you have nothing to gain from them? Of course, it is different if you are at war with someone's guild or you know it is an alt of an enemy. You are better off letting them be for now and targeting them when their purses are fat with coin and valuable items.
As far as NEW players with decent skills. I don't know....I sort of screwed up by not taking bushido and starting as an elf. Maybe I'll reroll my character and see how far i can get in a 12 hour UO training fest. I bet I don't loose that much progress. ROT is really casual friendly when you think about it. You can blast your way to 70 then let ROT take care of the rest. No endless grinding to get that last .1 or .2.

there will always be people who kill / harrass weaker players, at the end of the day NEW players help populate our shard.... this can only be a good thing!

I have given a ton to members of NEW in my short time here, LRC Suits, Bows, Pets and even a good chunk of gold. Not to mention I have never attacked NEW. The point of my post was that Siege is not for the light hearted or the I want it now crowd, I speak of the Siege NOW, please save your breath with the Siege history lesson, its getting old.
Unless you have a time machine that ship has sailed, been there, did that, got the t-shirt.

That character is not 30 days old, so of course he hasn't been in NEW 30 days. To tame those animals, you have to power level only two skills, that leaves the rest of his skills low. His ability to farm with those pets doesn't mean he could survive any focus in pvp yet.
I don't believe the NEW banner has been much protection from members of your thief guild anyways.

I didn't say all members. I won't say which, I didn't intend to change the topic of the thread.
Way to miss the point, the only way you're going to get more Siege blood is to attempt to convert the light hearted, because that's all that is left. UO does not have a shelf presence and I'm willing to bet quite a few current big name MMOG players don't even know what 'UO' stands for.
The people switching to Siege now are coming from Trammie shards, maybe they've PvP'd before, maybe they haven't. Being introduced to PvP with a grief-fest isn't exactly a wonderful time. A slightly gentler initial touch may persuade more people to stay to get involved in a real fight. Isn't that what Siege allegedly prides itself on, PvP? Not the griefing of new characters.
And I don't understand how you equate 'wanting it now' to a comment on PK's that don't respect the NEW tag. I agree you shouldn't feel completely safe to do what-ever you want, but it should also afford some measure of training in the wild without being harassed.

I would say the tag stands, and should be respected. Because someone has those pets, doesnt mean they can defend themselves very well. So, lets say they went hard on taming all day got to 70. 2 days in rot, they are now 80. Hell at 70, they can use 2 pieces of +15 jewels. So, because they have a mare, and a beetle. Doesnt mean they have full control, to guard, or all kill. That also doesnt mean they have worked magery up to a respectable level to heal themselves with a decent amount of HP per spell. perhaps they also still have very low stats, which means one combo and they are down. Also they could have a non med LRC suit on to get going. Meaning they wont last long if you lure pets away. That might be thier only gear, etc etc etc.
And as far as the past 30 days. Shal seems to let a some stay past the 30 days. And yes sometimes its if they havent chosen a guild yet, or havent been on when a GM of the guild is on. Or like some I was in new with. Had a hurricain hit, and have been evacuated from thier homes for over 30 days.

I only had a chance to get one summoned, I was going to send five, which would surely have killed her. If I had a focus...that would have been enough, five would have summoned at once.

The guy who started this thread is a real do_uche, a point that is backed up if you go to his link. Its funny that the guy you are qq'ing about was 1 shotted a few days ago by someone who doesn't respect the NEW tag and that he got those pets with the help of two friends. Oh but as soon as Shal saw the pets she should have booted him right? Why cause he's not some rp'er that you and chumps like you can sit at the guild house and corpse camp all day? Because he is using his month in NEW to get his character where it needs to be to survive? Oh but I guess if you know how to level your skills then you're gonna have cry babies that think they need to hop on here and act like jerks for no reason. Grow up buddy, the only reason you're in the position you are in is because you still play a game long after its dead and from the threads here it only seems like its dying more everyday. And what do you do? Try to pick on someone you don't know jack about, pathetic really considering attitudes like yours discourage new players and that is exactly what you need here unless you like running around all day not seeing one other person(as I have many days in the couple weeks I've been playing.) But what am I thinking, you probably do want that so you can keep acting like you are all high and mighty at this game.

Based on other threads I browsed today, the reason you aren't seeing anyone, is because a ) everyone runs with hiding/stealth. or b) runs in packs, so on every 3rd day of playing, you'll run into a screenful.

A rune beetle and nightmare can both be tamed with ~75 taming and jewelry. Are you not NEW anymore after hitting the coveted level of adept in any skill?
Also, while I’m sure your build and playstyle can be entertaining at times, assuming you don’t have more suitable combat skills soulstoned, your income is totally reliant on killing others more capable at farming gold or items than you. How long do you have to wait between these kills, and how many hours is it before an opportunity presents itself on average? On the other hand, I doubt that the earning power of the tamer, in your most recent entry for instance, was negatively impacted at all from your actions - you commented yourself regarding the speed with which her dragon was killing things. It’s likely she simply went elsewhere to continue raking in the gold hand over fist with minimal effort on her part.
Regardless however, in order to keep playing like you do – and for the sake of argument, we’ll assume you enjoy your playstyle – the population of this server needs to be maintained. Shouldn’t you be happy that there are people in NEW, if only for the reason that they won’t be in there long – at least they’re not playing WOW.

@ Chad, yes. Runebeetle and mare or not, he's still new enough to qualify for NEW, he'll soon be 30 days. We do not remove anyone until we know they have a guild to go to, find a guild they will potentially 'fit', or decide to start their own guild. Having said that, we do attempt to contact any guild they express an interest in, and hope said guild/s will be prompt with a positive reply.
I changed the 30 day rule because too many were quitting the shard if left to go solo, so I will not apologise for the change, it's working.

MadMurphy, some players actually used to object to a NEW having a Lord title (which they never managed to hold onto for long of course) or riding an ethy, assuming new to Siege also means new to UO....ridiculous.

This thief doesn't steal from New. Saw one once with uncorsed arty, and took to teach lesson. Would have given it back, after taunting, but he ran away, so returned it to guild for him. Now, if this thief sees new person playing, he stealths up and says "hi". If they read forums, they know Nezumi is thief. They should understand they need to be careful. Occasionally Nezumi comments on pack contents. That is extra warning.
When they are fledged warriors and mages, they will make interesting marks.

I never see anyone at the house when I pass by that way, how will I get access? I have tons of powerscrolls to off load, among other things.

I see that Jackal is in your guild. Good guy, he gave me some armor and weapons my first day back. I think the cheese-mo orc helm and ringmail tunic tipped him off that I might not be a seasoned vet. hehe...just thought I would add something positive to a mostly negative thread.
BTW, I finished building my first 100% LRC suit last night so I could train up my necromancy. It has a bunch of non-med peices and the resists are all like 30 or so. It is pretty bad for anything other then just sitting in the inn casting horrific beast, but if I wasn't expecting to get hit, it would be pretty workable I guess. A tamer probably has a lot more leway with their LRC pieces then other builds I would think.
LOL, yeah, I found a NEW player killing the mean old monsters in Despise. She felt it was safe enough to carry around some virtue armor in her main pack. I decided to be a teacher and show her that she probably should have banked those. I hope she learned her lesson...la

A legend doesn't cry out and draw attention to someone with the little evidence he had. The tamer in question had never even played UO 30 days ago, so he certainly isn't even close to hiding behind a tag.
To Touzoko: It was my sword you returned, and thanks. I was fighting off a never ending spawn of ettins, and since my character was a few days old I was struggling with that too much to play games about being sold back a drop. I had tried to keep an eye out for a virtue-artifact drop, but you saw it before I did, so it must have just dropped for me. I knew it probably wasn't terribly valuable, and I had no chance to take it back by force, so I just cut my losses and left to bank what little I had.

As Shalimar stated a NEW can not initate any attack on anybody anyways ie the rules and if they break that rule ever you are to notify her and NEW.
Having those pets also does not mean diddly really for some new arrivals here.
I had a friend from Chesapeake try to become part of Siege when I came here. Only difference between he and I was he was born into UO post Trammel. He seriously did wish to give Siege a try. He was a legendary tamer on Chesapeake so...he worked to become that which he likes being here..a tamer. He refused to join NEW saying he was not new to UO.. I told him I joined new and played uo since 98...but was *new here*...but born to a feluccan only ruleset *unlike him*!!
Within no time at all he upped two main tamer skills here...the rest of his skills were very very low yet...but he had a white Wyrm and a nightmare in no time flat it seemed. HE ENDED UP PKd..........and I laughed sort of gigglin saying ...........you had a ww AND a mare and ya DIED ??? He said yehhhhh and my pets too.......I said WHY ? Why didnt ya say ...fluffy all kill ?? ya had a ww AND a mare to defend you.........?? He said hrmm was born to trammel got so stunned to be attacked I guess I went into shock.......
