Mmmorpg.com ran some when the KR client was built.
Not sure there were some adds for the Stygian Expansion.

And Startics fights to be the not only UO board for years, but I think they have troubles attracting the other communities. So why not have adds for all kinds of games.

Well, given the semi-official status of these forums, isn't it a bit insulting to advertise a competitors product here? I don't see Burger King ads in McDonalds...

One thing about the UO population, in general - we aren't stupid about the gaming market. Those of us that are here didn't find it by accident. We know where to find information on other games, and are generally aware of them long before most other segments of the gaming community are. I don't need a 14 day attempted inducement to play WoW. If I want to play, I know where to go.

As to why other sections of the network don't do well? Could it be that all those other sections, including the other EA/Mythic offerings, all have their own official, company run forums? Just a thought...

Oh, you mean the ad?

I saw that too, but didn't think that could possibly be what you're talking about, because it's, well, an ad. Internet advertising is so odd, all kinds of similar "ironies" occur every day, all the time, across the Internet.

Google's ad engine in particular offers me some amusing "suggestions."

Also sometimes I'll get an amusing YouTube suggestion.
