Insurance...

So I'm training a GD with Swoop (Disco/Tamer) and a Para Changeling is beating on a fellow Tamer in the Twisted Weald. In a moment of complete stupidity, I throw a 120.0 Disco at the Para Changeling trying to help. Of course, it has no effect, except to focus the Para Changeling's ire on lowly me, who is wearing a 2,200 luck suit with very low resists. so I'm monochrome in less than 2 seconds. I get a local rez. My insured Novo Bleue bracelet is on my gump but my insured Etoile Bleue ring is not!!! I think...what an idiot!?!?!? I insured one and not the other!!! Run to Body...double click body and insured Etoile Bleue ring suddenly appears! Good news but also bad news. Click on Etoile Bleue ring and it is, in fact, insured, right there on the second line...in big letters: "Insured".

WTF???

There's still insurance bugs out there.

Also....This usually happens with blessed items, but sometimes happens with insured items too....Sometimes the item can actually be there but you, for some reason, can't see it.

When you dressed, did you use a UO Assist Macro? UO Assist sees all, even things you can't.

did you insure the ring with a different character? Sometimes that causes it to fail, too. That's why you can't put items on vendors anymore, that are insured.

Just make sure you have...

OPTIONS > MOUSE ICON > HOLD SHIFT FOR CONTXT MENU ON

Problem solved.

My personal perspective on the insurance bug...

- Outsiders can hack your menu and remove insurance...
- Change it so you must hold shift down to activate menus...
- problem solved (hopefully)

I have been in felluca for many years... hum, for all of them... and those that have this option active NEVER lost one item.

Not sure if this is paranoia or fact... the only thing I know is... it works.

Sounds a little far-fetched to me, tbh.

But, on the subject of solutions, I click my heels together and spin around on my chair three times every time I die, and I've never lost an item to this bug.

Are you seriously that paranoid that you think people are hacking your context menu's? Really?

Your suggestion holds no merit. I have been using insurance since it's introduction, and same with context menus. My menu's have always been set to use the right mouse button, never lost an item. It's just a random bug the the OP unfortunately got hit by. Thanfully, he didn't lose his item. It has nothing to do with how you insure your items or the boogeymen 'hacking' your menu.

"Fixing the 'insurance bug'. Targeting in UO is request/response. The server tells the client that it needs a target. The client then changes the cursor to a targeting cursor and sends a response back to the server when the player picks something. The server then fires a callback on the item that requested the target. The problem was that the item was determined from information in the target response, so the server was stupidly trusting the client in this respect. In most cases, the scripts that controlled targeting had their own "security" but it was up to the developer to script it in every case. In the case of insurance, the 'item' the callback fired on was the player requesting to insure/uninsure something and there was no security. Now the security of all request/response formats is ensured by the server at a global level."

Personally, I always make sure I have enough money in the bank. 600 gold per insured item upon death (if I recall correctly). Otherwise, when you die, an item will have a random chance of not being insured.

Other than that, I use UO Assist and set everything to a body equip macro. I've never, ever lost anything...ever. Trammel, Felucca or otherwise. UO Assist always sees what you may not. Just hit equip macro and walla. If you still have the item in your pack it will equip.

Another reason insured items fall to the body is you were cursed and overweight when you die.... and sometimes this causes insured items to "fall" with your corpse...

sometimes.

I agree with Diomedes, i allways keep a stack of gold coins in my bank box(not in a container).
The bug normally only affects me when my insurance is being taken out of a check, it dont like it for some reason.
Glad you got you stuff back thou, it's really annoying when a para blood elem has looted most of your insured stuff off your body ;)

You are charged when you insure the item, you are only charged again when you get rezzed (if auto-insure is on) and if you have no gold in the bank your stuff won't be reinsured but will still be in your pack when you get rezzed (just not insured anymore), but if you were to die again all of your stuff would be on your body and ripe for the taking.

Ive heard also that if you eat some food and cross a server line before you insure something then the bug will not strike. NEVER insure anything whilst your character is hungry! ;)
