Insurance bug....

Well, I can finally say I had this happen. I was helping two guildies grab a couple fire bugs for their crafters. With too much spawn on me, I died. Got rezzed and went to a safe area to re-equip. I hit my UOA macro, and the redress stopped at my bracelet. Hit it several times, no joy. Manually finished and went back to my corpse...I double click my corpse and my INSURED orny pops into my backpack. I immediately check my bank funds with a house placement tool and I have 1,734, 447 of gold in my bank account. I head out, recall to the bank to check, and find that it is all LOOSE gold. No checks whatsoever. I immediately uninsure and re-insure all my items and head back. Good thing I wasn't in Fel at the time. Needless to say, there does seem to be something to this, at least in my eyes. How/why/when it happens I think is tougher to pinpoint.

<sees the "there IS a bug" crowd increase by 2 members>

Funny thing about this is that all the voices raised to decry the existence of this bug have been strangely silent for a long time. Perhaps it has also happened to them and they do not wish to have to publicly recant? <questioning look>

The last time I died ... in Sanctuary that time ... I had a couple insured armor pieces drop onto my corpse. I uninsure/reinsure each time I log in, but it still happens.

It happened to me quite awhile ago...like months I think when I posted it.

I'm certain its a timing problem and they need to have an experienced second pair of eyes do a code review. If they put in a timing guard it would solve the problem.

It actually happened today at Medusa, about 2 hours ago? I died, rezed and hit the UOA dress macro, got a message "You can't pick that up" When it tried to put the gloves on, so was like, no biggy, might not have set the dress macro up, looked through pack, under everything, no gloves. Corpse has gloves on. Loot corpse. Gloves are insured. I mean there's no ifs, I had insurance. I died earlier today, had gloves, died at medusa, lost gloves, I have money outside of a check, yes I looked through my whole pack under everything. The gloves WERE on the corpse, they WERE insured, they never left my characters bank. DOn't tell me about new insurance either, everything else was insured under the old system and only happened to gloves.

Just wondering, anyone knows whether this supposed bug is beeing looked at by the developers ?

Can it be reproduced or it is only at random, happening without any pattern ?

to my knowledge it is not any specific set of circumstances, making it really hard to reproduce.

Yup. I lost a ring the other day to it, wasn't a ring i was very attached to so it didn't bother me, but the bug is still out there.

This comment made me sad. I remember when having one of only about 5 1/3 rings on the shard meant something to me. Now I just go get stuff imbued. *shakes head*

ummm.... when was this like 2 days after AoS when the game became item based?

I got a basic 1/3 ring on day one.. now a decent one with mods is a different story.

I have a question:

For those of you experiencing this bug: are you all using UOA?

I noticed two or three people mention it while reporting this bug.

The reason I ask is because I don't use it, and have never had this bug happen. Maybe there's no connection, but it's interesting to note.

I sent this to the feedback form on uo.com after reading this thread. What do you guys think? Insurance bugs and scams are not new. I think the whole system needs to be relooked.

"Insurance Bug Fix: disband the insurance system.

I'm not talking about turning all servers to the siege rule set. What I'm proposing is pretty simple. Instead of your paperdoll gear dropping off every time you die, it would always stay equipped. Everything in your backpack drops to your corpse; everything on your paperdoll always stays on your paperdoll unless you manually change it.

The only major change this would cause in the game is making warriors have less weapons to fight with. There's an easy fix for that. Impliment weapon bless deeds as a blacksmith bod reward, and give them out initially as a holiday gift to get the system started.

This would cause many interesting things to happen in the game. It would remove the dress speed advantage EC players have over LC client users. It would add some intrigue to fel fights in which artifacts and skulls are involved as possible rewards for fighting. It would solve the long standng insurance bugs and scams. The insurance system in and of itself makes no sense.

I do think if you adopted a system similar to this that the money-for-deathblow system should stay intact. Maybe the killer could recieve a similar amount that they do under the current system. When you kill another player, you are rewarded a certain amount of gold calculated by a percentage of the adjusted imbuing value of their equipped items.

I think this is a safer, more reliable, more modern system of handling pvp looting rights while still maintaining the unique UO feel of losing your potions, power scrolls, etc when you die."

Also interesting to know if this only happens on the old client... I havnt had any issues since I returned 8 months ago and I have only been using the new client.

This bug has been manifesting itself even in the KR Days ... most cases were CC I believe, however I recall some KR users having issues as well. My instances of the bug popping up were all in CC and UOA running.

I have had this bug happen to me as well but I can't see any links. I think it's pretty random.

For me, I was down doing the rat spawn in Despise and got ganked by a few PVPers. Nothing new. Anyway, ran out and got ressed, equipped and my glasses were missed. Checked under everything, unloaded my bag and reloaded it, and they were on my body. My bank had plenty of gold on it.
I was not running UOA, but I was running on the classic Client. I posted about it a long time ago but haven't noticed it happening since then. A friend of mine died in the Primevil lich spawn one day and also lost his glasses. He went through his bags and checked his corpse. They were no where. He ran around a bit using Ctrl+shift and found them pretty far from his body.

Not specifically an insurance bug, but a few months ago, i lost part of my blessed armor set to a bug. It may be the same bug, or the blessed bug may be different.

I died, went and got rezzed, and while still at the Ankh, dressed myself, and found I was missing a portion of my armor. Ran back to my body, looted the corpse, and still no armor part. Fortunately, for this particular part, i had a spare at my house, so it was no great loss.

I still use the classic client, but I do not use UO Assist.

To clear things up. Insurance is handled on the server end, not the client end. So using UOA or the old client probably wouldn't effect it. Just because it didn't effect you, doesn't mean you're using the right things. This glitch is RANDOM. Meaning it might not happen to you, it might happen to you tomorrow. It's random. UOA or 2d isn't going to change that and neither is the enhanced client. Now if you were saying I couldn't SEE the item, then that would be client/UOA. But for the fact it was actually ON my CORPSE would have nothing to do with client.

Okay. I'm not misunderstanding what happened, and I'm not trying to badmouth UOA or any particular client.

I merely felt it was a fair question to ask, since some people had said UOA was involved when they re-equipped.

Nah, the ring I lost wasn't even as nice as a 1/3. It had one mod, a skill at +15, that was it.

I am convinced that 99% of the cases accredited to the insurance bug are in fact mistakes made by players (forgotten to (re)insure, overlooked the item in a messy backpack).

However, in very rare situations an insured item can drop to the corpse. It happened to me exactly once during my whole UO time. This was 2 years ago, and my insured Nocturne Earrings were found among the loot of a Shadow Fiend.
