Thank you very much for taking the time to respond, and confirm my understanding of all this. While I'm thinking about GD's, where do you think is the best place to tame them, and what resistances would you be looking for in a pre-tamed GD?

I prefer farming g-drags at Destard lvl 1 because tons of them spawn in there, but dastard can be hazardous. At Fire Temple you can lead the dragon off into the woods and tame him there in relative safety, so you may prefer that method. If this is your first g-drag tame I recommend fire temple. But if you want to turn spawn over quickly and find the best g-drag you can, I say go to Destard.
For resists, you want as close to the maximums as possible, which are:
85 phys
90 fire
55 cold
60 poison
75 energy
Keep in mind that resist don’t change, so pre-tame resist = permanent resist values. I don’t settle for anything less that 90% of the maximum in each resist, but I’m looking for the best pets. You generally don’t want one glaringly low resist because then your drag may be weak toward one specific opponent, but if all your fighting is fire based monsters, then no need to worry about cold resist right?
If you search google for “ultima pet power calculator” you’ll find Kitiara’s application. If you select greater dragon, and just hit submit you’ll receive statisctics on the maximum values for resists/stats/skills.

Short answer: If you post here with some stats of drags you’ve tamed people will comment on what it’s strengths and weaknesses are and it will clarify everything im about to say below. Also, there are a few posts on this board where people have done just that and you can read those to get some more info. Read on at your own risk
This is a tough question to answer because there are sooooo many factors with greater dragons.
Here is my best g-drag’s stats (from memory), and I wrote how I think each stacks up:
scale = low, average, above average, high, maximum.
970 HPs (high)
580 str (low)
125 dex/int (all the same)
611 mana (above average)
117.6 wrestling (above average)
110 tactics (average)
100 anat (average)
117 resist spells (above average)
114.3 magery (above average)
100 eval int (average)
84 phys resist rest (high)
89 fire resist (high)
55 cold resist (high)
60 poison resist (high)
70 energy resist (high)
He rates about a 4.4 or on the pet power calc. I consider him a tank because he has great resists/HPs and decent wrestling. But if his strenght and wrestling were higher he would have the best of both worlds.
With that all being said, it depends on what you want your drag to do. For PVE you want the best resists and highest wrestling you can get. Preferably wrestling over 120 since your drag will get hit less often and need less healing. The Pet power calc is a good place to judge a potential tanking g-drag because it heavily favors resists. Resist are paramount in PVE.
For PVP (i don't PVP btw) people may sacrifice resists for high strenght/wrestling/magery becuase they want burst damage and 120+ wrestling is a must to counter all the dexxer monkeys with 120 weapon skill, +%70 DCI, parry, etc. Some people claim that 120 magery makes a gigantic difference, although idk about that. High hitpoints (900+) is also important for maximum fire breath damage.
Be aware that the pet power calc doesn’t weigh skills (wrest/magery/resist spells) highly. The pet power calc may rate a drag with 100 wrestling and a drag with 120 wrestling closely, but there is a HUUUGEEEE difference between them make no mistake,
