I was imbuing a set of jewels today to make my 840 skillpoint tamer... So I needed a bracelet with 15 Animal Lore, 15 discordance and 10 magery. I proceeded to imbue the 15's first. Started with Animal Lore, Then did the discordance and instead of adding discordance, it replaced animal lore. I tried it a few times, and it just kept replacing the other +15 imbue.

What the heck??? Wasted 50 cryst blackrock...

Is this a known issue?

This:

Linkage

There can be only certain skill combos.

Disco and Animal Lore are in the same "Group".

Is there a reason for this? I wanted to make the same combo almost and discovered the "group" thing. I was very disaapointed to say the least. So, did the dev's have a reason for designing the system to work in this way?

It's been a limitation since AoS, they said.

I never noticed, but then it was just luck as to what combination you got on loot. I looked back through all my old jewelry and sure enough it held true.

I guess it's to limit certain powerful combinations, but it seems most of the complementary skills are available together. Maybe it's just to reduce the amount of math involved.

But yes, I wanted a set of Magery/Music jewelry for my carpenter so I could make both circles and instruments without needing to swap jewels. Neither come up that often so it's not a huge issue.

it's interesting to note that while you cannot imbue jewelry with both chivalry and resist spells, the chivalry mark of the travesty does also come with resisting spells. apparently someone at UO considers resist spells complementary to chivalry and yet it can never exist together with it.

i've found it considerably annoying to make jewelry for my abc archer considering chivalry, resist spells, -and- healing are all in the same skill group.

There is actually a warning on the imbuing gump for when the skill you are about to imbue replaces a skill already on the item.

It was part of the design system of game. All the skills were grouped into 5 distinct categories, which for the most part had the major combat templates of the start of AoS reflected in them. Only artifacts and event items could have multiple skills from one group (hence, the Mark of Travesty).

Skill Groups (columns reflect the following templates - Mage / Bard / Warrior types / Tamer / Thief (and Ninja*) ) (* Added after AoS)
Group 1: Magery / Musicianship / (Swords, Macing, Fencing) / --- /--- / ---
Group 2: Wrestling / Provocation / Tactics / Spirit Speak / Animal Taming / ---
Group 3: Meditation / Discordance / Parrying / Focus / Animal Lore / Stealth
Group 4: (Evaluate Intelligence, Mysticism*) / --- / (Bushido*, Necromancy, Anatomy) / Veterinary / Stealing
Group 5: Resist Spells / Peacemaking / (Healing, Chivalry, Archery, Throwing* ) / --- / Ninjitsu*

Interestingly enough, there was a typo in the system originally, and the skills in Group One (that Devs originally referred to as Group Five, as if multiple skill groups end up on a naturally spawning loot item, this group was always last in priority of display), only spawned at 1/100 of the rate of the other skill groups. As a result, for the first year or so of AoS, Magery, Music or melee weapon jewelry was EXTREMELY rare.

^-

Either way this might be something I should add as a check for the imbuing calc I'm making. I'd just see the warning, as Risso states, but seems like others won't understand the warning, heh.

Yes, that is a big Ouch! I did the same thing doing + 15 Skill--thus using Blackrock...It was on probably the 5 try that I realized what was going on. Sucks being ADD/ADHD.

that sucks dude, wasting crysteline blackrock is not fun, but as already been mentioned in many replies, they work in groups, only 1 skill per group is imbueable onto any one item.

next time i suggest you use a calculator that takes into account of skill groups, such as ours, (linkage in sig). or at least, study the skill groups :)
