That being said I really want to come back and have the fun I used to have. Is this possible? Is a thief a viable char these days? Are there people to steal from or any items worth stealing?

Yes it is worth coming back - but for your playstyle - I'd suggest Siege as your shard.

I'll also be here till they either shut down UO, The Internet Collapses, or the Electric Grid goes offline.

I sure hope this is still a viable character as I decided to redo one of my toons that I never play! I also joined Factions for the first time, even if it is broken...

Never leaving UO!!! been playing for about ten years and im still a noob! 2 accounts strong! so i still have a lot to learn. just got my first keep this year and its never gonna decay! also like i saw a few people saying, i may not be able to log in and play as much as i would like or used to be able to, but always will be logging in here and there as much as possible.

Even if we are the last two left I am staying. Even if I have to make a server out of spare parts and power it with zombie hamsters. Kelmo do you still have the zombie hamster recipie? Plus how hard could it be to set up a little atomic power generating station to make sure we keep UO on if the rest of the grid drops. All I would need is some....
