Title says it all. If you could make an expansion, with any type of content in it. What would it be?

Personally, I would want to see tons of content added to the old lands. With a complete revision to monster toughness. Oh, and sea content! TONS of it.

Next?

I've already mapped mine out...

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=159656

Seems most don't like it, though.

In summary, more territorial and political features to enforce community. Not more content, of which there is already so much, much of the land feels empty.

I'd rather make use of what we have, give communities meaning and direction should they chose it.. Others just want new phat lewt I guess.

Hmmmm.... well, I think we're in

"Struggle for Virtue"

Summary
Lord British left the lands of Britannia many years ago, to journey to other worlds. After he left, the power vacuum caused multiple groups to attempt to further their aims. And yet, no one wanted to take control of the realm. The lands have drifted aimlessly, looking for a path to take while the nobles squabble.

A struggle has begun, amongst those who feel the Virtues are the basis for society, those who feel they are not, those with no opinion, and those that feel other things are important. And then there are those who value nothing in the realms, who wish to remake the worlds under their own banner.

The daemon invasions were the precursor, a testing of Britannian defenses. The void creatures are another testing, a determination. Where are they heading next? Who will take control of the worlds?

Continuation

"Testing of Virtue"

Something has changed. Chaos is everywhere, no one is sure of what is happening. Magincia is still dead. There are ruptures in the world, leading to further worlds that have the same Chaos occurring. Britannia is wracked with confusion and fear.

And now, one by one, the virtue shrines have begun to collapse and decay, starting with those in Felucca. Almost as though some source of their apparent power is leeching away. However, the shrines of Ilshenar don't seem affected by this slow draining... yet.

Mages report their spells fail more frequently. Dungeons are filled with more chaotic creatures... yet their spells fail sometimes too. Some of the creatures seem sickly, as though they are affected by something we can't see yet. Trees in Trammel begin to die, as do many overland creatures. Elves begin to sicken, even in Heartwood.

What... or who... or when is causing this?

I'd make an expansion available in a new client with an actual 3d environment using a talented art team.

I'd go for a sea expansion based in the original lands and add quests to each town. I'd also make specific reasons to go to each city.

I want a Smurf expansion!
All us Smurfs would hafta unite and work together if we`re ever to defeat Gargamel & Asrial. It would be set in Tram of course, lol. I even have an idea on how to attract all the peaple who want some kind of water based expac.....

I`d call it... " Attack of the Snorks! " There`d be Snorks and Smurfs layin dead EVERYWHERE! Who`d win? Who know`s!? The Smurfs have Brainey Smurf (and Smurfette!) and the Snorks have,well.... Water! I mean, don`t even get me started with Gargamel if he were to enter the fray! Plus with the Smurf expac Gargs would finally have sumone thier own size to beat up on!:eek:snap:

I see nothing but potential here.

A thread was run on the ideal of a waterbound champ spawn. Gold sits on the water so its not an issue for gathering. Hell ask any necro after a champ spawn how to get the gold, Minion. Just have to make sure gold doesn't block boat travel still. And on that their could be a new sea creature called a Coral Elemental the 3rd or 4th spawn level. Once this critter dies leaves a column of coral blocking ship movement. I can see a boat surrounded by spawn and archers putting an arrow between the necro's eyes the first time they wither when the boat is encircled. We already have a bunch of snow piles so the art team don't have to get in a tizzy over the coral columns. Whip out your salmon pink crayons. I like the whole Sea Quake ripple effect from the champ damaging players and boats. It could push a boat back maybe hitting a coral column for more damage. Keep a Captains hands full picking best angle and path of attacking the champ. A higher level of sea serpent could be added over the template of a lich lord.

Yes the whole wall spells+boats+water needs a tweak. And as far as boat PVP.........If you find yourself the only mage, than better have Protection active, on a boat full of cutlas swinging dexers ....... better have a Map or known route to nearest healer.

The fire dungeon rope bridge is great for boarding attacks. Must have more range then a spell or arrow. Like 15 spaces. The boats pull together slowly and at 5 spaces it breaks. The bridging rope has no targeting under 10 Spaces. This gives 5-10 spaces for the receiving boat to cut the rope. Give a true lumberjack carpenter better odds of cutting it being the rope would be like a summon with a lifebar.. Those on the rope when it goes end up in the water. The tillerman would be for targeting but for image it would be a plank location to plank location rope. A hit would stop each boat turning them in location for side to side facing.

Players in water can use the same seated on a mount look while in water. No need for that walking on water image, done already. Besides the rope drop in water gives the should of had a carpenter onboard for repairs to aviod sinking. So boats can sink filling the swimming pool. Now the art team can add in the three images of the sinking boat. last stage before the boat is gone is the tillerman waste deep and mast and bow at water level. This stage puts any players in seated image or new laying on back image (something to quiet those that think they need to lay in their beds - bed placement hides water tile under it). And anything in the hold is placed in the water.

Now your in the water. Characters are in peace mode and get fizzles and fingures slip. Just like an animated undead is on a timer so is your lifebar. Sorry but damage will be greater then a human in max HPR and based off a players wieght in stones. Players in water within 3 spaces of an active gankplank........sorry gangplank, move with a ship and anyone in the water can DC (double click) to get themselves onto the gangplank.

I took my mule to a champ! There is already the game mechanics to repair a golem with tink. It is not the same animal as heal or vet with the skill use timer put to tink repairing. The tillerman lifebar is used to be the ships lifebar (this can better represent orphaned ships at sea poof factor). Boards and nails are used at each heal attempt. The higher your carpentry /tink/ cartography the more you repair the ship. So ideally a captain would have a friend along, a second mate, that be some template that's a carp/tink with a combative side. We know a boat is nothing more then a house style item in the game mechanics that moves. Thats why the Tillerman just needs to be the targeting factor of the boat. Carp items could be added for custom bow carving/main sail/aft flag.

Hey lets drive the code magi real nuts and like the key is coded to the boat when created also add a Ships Journal Book coded to the ship. This book has 3-5 of a random 10+ spell/ship enhancements generated the first launch in owners backpack. Ships Journal Book is bound to the owners backpack like some of those pesky quest items. If the ships model is trashed or the boat is destroyed the book is gone and holder gets ghosted (going down with the ship). Cartography opens the book as it does a map, revealing the water stained runes/ship spells. Spells that alters the ships resistance (lightning rod-fire proofing-armor plating sort of resist effect). The cannon shot be it one directed at another ship or area effect on oppenents. One that activates small area damage at the front of the ship for ramming (standing on the bow at this time bad - plp and your ship also receives damage in bow area). HP regeneration. Teleporting. Dragons breath flame thrower. Summon wild random sea spawn. Different types of targeting spells to represent cannon use. Reagents resources and oddities used for casting like vines/deadwood/bola balls/rope/keg and paragon deco drop stuff for the bigger spells. Ships Captian would have buff icons for duration effect abilities. Rope bridge for boarding effect so idiots onboard have no say to your boats future would be a standard ability. Some spells be nonecombative like fishing net or a harpoon ballista. NET would be on deck upon summoning and DCed to use/toss. Works like 2 or 4 fishing poles and like a greedy minion would have to be opened and emptied before tossing/using again. HARPOON hits target with strangle effect and teleports them to the bow. Hitting a player would open a window option to allow the effect.

Captains would have have a skill paperdoll titles of Captian, Admiralis, Skipper or Pirate, Buccaneer, Corsair. A ships owner would add a new aspect to the game like a tamer is nothing without their pet so it would go for a captain. Can see the tricorn hat from water champ with +20 Cartography. Ya Pirate wouldn't be hard to aviod if to much Pepper Shot and ramming another boat in fel. There'd be Tram side quest hunts for Pirates around the southern Isles. Ships takes commands from Captain only while onboard or by a player with a copy of the ships key. These copied keys would always be cursed. If a Captain dies a cursed key copy will be on his corpse. This will allow boarding and taking of a ship after her crew is killed. A ship can be controled then but it's specialized abilities is bound by journal holder. A ship can be taken to a dock to a harbor master NPC. There it could be held for a ransom cost or an old bounty system could be ship linked. Cool twist to the insurance gold passing and like a stables anydock could be used to recover lost boats.

Isle of the Avatar tram and fel side or any other island with a cove could have game placed docks. With max storage house plot on the beach. A boat anchor at one theese docks would not be on decay timer. The dock would be an extension of the house front stairs and a remove thyself targeting of tillermen would transport a boat to the center of the cove. Non crafted boats would have same transfer option or destroy. Blue or Red skeleton keys that would be acquired through rare champ drop or long Pirate quest hunt or EM event. DCing the key and targeting an unclaimed beachhouse gives you the "Do you wish to place?" option for new home. The key holds the house name & stays with the owner and only trading active key for active key can changer ownership of beach homes. Sort of pet transfer like option on the key. A barrel will be at the house corner under the house sign. Conquered ship keys are placed in the barrel and are viewable like a storage crate by the owner, UO Staff or EM. Motivating Captains to be active to their roll to keep the home. Certain quota or a low 10% sweep of beach houses will envoke eviction. The barrel is removed and a random timer is put to the house sign when it will return to a plot for new owner to claim. Conquered Ship keys are gotten through the sinking of an NPC or player ship. Conquered Ship Key shoots 10 spaces random direction from the sunken ship and has death cloak timer for decay. The NPC sunk ships would be a random generator chance of there being a conquered key....... a new vendor trade for those that don't own a beach house.

Orphaned ships. With the tillerman life bar of ship left at sea would allow a passerby to see what it status is. Like a pet needs to be fed and see their owner, a boat will have its own special check. After one or two days feels ignored. If no owner visit to renew the ship goes to grey status i.e. wild. Undead Pirate NPCs would take control of the ship for this duration. The Undead CPT generates a cursed key copy for bounting the ship. Few days of being grey and server refresh removes the ship. Captain logs on and Ships Journal Book explodes killing the CPT as a reminder his boat is gone. In theese days of wild status the ship can be destroyed for a conquered key. Theese would have to be ships only made by cartogarpher/carpenter/tinker Captains that have the lifebar tillerman. A quest for parts of a boats construction can only be done by a Captian once a month. Need some method to aviod farming like killing your naked red buddy for justice BS. Theese boats crafted are owner bond with an option on the boats pack model to delete it. This would allow for a chance to get better or other Journal Book spells combination. But still need a once a month quest for an ingriedent that is questee bound to aviod abuse.

Fisher can still have their regular lifeless raft type boats the way they are. Unless they like the ideal of taking out fished up serps with a buckshot load from a ships offensive spell.

Pirates would rock, customizable ship sails and new ship styles. Water content including champ spawns (maybe even moving champ spawn so you have to track it down first). New clothing and perhaps maybe if folks wouldn't be outraged, a musket or gunpowder using hand gun of some sort along the lines of the ninja belts, or blow darts.

We have 2 moons that would be a great place for expansions.

1 with the tram ruleset

1 with the fel ruleset

Much could be done with this...

The only new content mine would add would be to give some love to existing niche classes. Cooks, Fishermen, Thieves, Bards, Beggars, Rangers (not to be confused with
Tamers) and the like. We have a bunch of skills that are IMO under used.

And of course rideable gorillas.

I love the idea of a pirate expansion...

Though use of the two moons would be pretty neat too.

Though I would like to see something done about the current lands. I would like to see a complete overhaul of all towns, dungeons and lands. Making other towns more useful... trying to bring back community.

I'd like to see a revision of crafting. Something that expands crafting more than imbuing. I'd like to see the "deed" system done away with and a return to personal service. No more repair deeds.

I'd like to see an expansion that rewards folk for community. Something similar to the faction system but different. Lets take Yew for example... Yew basically would benefit from monsters killed in it's communities anti virtue dungeon... Things based on each virtue.... Yew's virtue is Justice...

I would love to see Heartwood revised to have far better graphics, better housing with and expanded city about it.... with homesteads in the trees... I'd like to see it have places to build upon... the elves given some sort of virtue system of their own... Perhaps some sort of system based on healing and liferestoration and preservation. Command of nature.... bonus's given to taming... and arts... barding perhaps.. I think as far as cities go.... Heartwood got "shafted"...

I'd like to crafting given local bonus's... somewhat based on virtue/antivitue and location. I'd also like to see two new towns added to Tokuno... and an expansion into their own "virtue" system... One town more devoted to Ninjitsu and one to Bushido...

Each of these things could be done with "mini" expansions. Like when Yew's "improvement/overhaul" is complete a large patch is made and you are given the opportunity to "rediscover" Justice... which would of course include an update to the dungeon of Wrong... as well.

Then when all the cities are "revamped" so to speak another expansion is given that would allow people to create their own "towns"... if they had enough support... they would be able to build roads (which of course would need to be maintained so you couldn't just band together and create it and leave)... add NPC's... associate yourself with a "sister" city to share in bonus's for virtue and the like... but something that builds community involvement...

Each community would be able to "elect" officials...

And for "evil" do-ers... there would be an "anti-vitue" system. And they can attempt to turn a city to it's "anti-virtue" side... so to keep with Yew... it would turn from a City of Justice to Wrong... Briggands would rule...

And all of this would be in a system supporting Chaos and Order... With Balance..... and other "factions".... based on Tokuno style and Elven Heritage... let us not forget the "dark side of elven" Drow and Orc...

I would love to see an Underground City of Drowish and Orcish origins built into the Underword realm and expanding the Abyss as well.

As well followers of Mondain and of Armageddon could be used on the "evil" side for Chaos.

Actually, there was a gun in Lord British's castle in Ultima VII: The Black Gate, in the storeroom on the roof so it wouldn't be that farfetched.

That may be but, I play a fantasy game with swords and bows and magic, I do not want guns, and it will surely make me quit. I am sure many others would too. If I want guns I can go play all the first person shooters and talk on team speak about how I just killed this guy with my (name of gun) here.

Sorry but I really hate guns in a fantasy setting, I might play a game like that if someone who knows how to make a game. Here is an idea for you to make, a Ultima skill based game but set in the wild west, with housing and all kinds of stuff. Instead of peerless or champs have stage and train robberies and what not, or hunt down Billy the Kid then again to me he was a hero. But you get my drift, I think that would make an awesome online game.

the features I would want to see in an expansion:

* New landmass with cities and dungeons
* New animals and monsters
* Enhanced user interface
o Big Window, will allow you to drag interface windows off of your play area (Now also available to UO players)
o More fonts and enhanced character set with diacritical marks from other languages.
o Profile feature, allows roleplayers to enter a description of their character visible to all
o Pop-up Help, gives help text when the mouse hovers over an object
o Enhanced settings interface, no more editing of uo.cfg by hand needed
* New in-game Chat system, similar to IRC but easier to use
* Translation between English, French, German and Japanese text
* New playguide and map
* UO Demo which can be played solo without being connected to an UO server

hmmmm sounds an awful lot like The second age expansion, when the game was perfect.

I'd like to see new house lands. And then modify the existing lands to spread housing out a bit and open up the landscape. I really hate the cluttered landscape that doesn't really even allow people to see my front steps. Maybe even a few smaller plots with higher storage at a higher plot price? Say a 14x14 with castle storage limits with a plot price of say 2 castles?

I'd like to see the loyalty system implemented for all the towns. And raising loyalty in one town will lower it in another. There should be vendor penalties for low loyalty. And don't forget to add the impress in there.....and then the ToT would raise loyalty.....It could be an adventure just keeping loyalties balanced.

I'd like to see the existing lands get a monster revamp. Honestly, when was the last time you actually hunted in the forests SW if Britian? How about around Vesper? Let's spice it up and get the peoples out there again.

I'd like to see an option that when I open a corpse everything is in a backpack. Then I don't have to loot each item I can just grab the pack. (Note: That one is from the old days and I have NO IDEA why they ever changed it.)

My only last suggestion is a revamp of shame. It needs more varied elementals. Why they only have earth and DC I'll never know...lets put some variety out there.

Other than that, with the introduction of imbuing I'm actually quite happy with the game.
