Drac,

Would that include the old tillerman tales. If it would you're right. I really miss meaningful interaction on any level with npcs, but those were a hoot!
Yep, and the old random "quests"

DO you have any idea how much time I spent trying to run down magic wands and swords that didn't even exist that way, lol. But, it did inspire me to start a t-hunter.

True customizable pets. The skills used would be alchemy and animal lore. You would be able to "breed" up a type of animal you would want.

i would add NPC Vendor change. They can buy anything releated to their job field, "And it shows up on their inventory". and any other player can buy it... This gives the player who does not have a luna vender, who's house is in Felluca, or has a private house, the ability to sell items they normally can not. It would also make NPC shopping popular again, and force luna venders to have more reasonable prices on some of their items.
Or they could do a shard-wide search engine. If I could have requested two things, that would have been the other one. Not only would it give all of us a chance to sell stuff and to buy it at the best price, it would also draw players to areas of the shard they don't normally visit (such as most of Malas, south of Trinsic, the Minoc suburbs, etc.).

I would like to have my characters be able to lay down. From a role playing perspective it would be very nice to go to bed at night or if camping actually use the bed roll.

If I did, indeed, have a second choice I would like to see larger ships with cabins etc. as stated above.

Long on my wish list, and the one thing I'd love to see ~

A Test Server that continues to rotate and mirror each and every shard, and is time specific limited.
Ive got a ton of things I'd love to test and cannot (easily or at all) replicate on current test.

Some of the most fun I ever had was during the old 'server reset' days.
[ Most of the themed test centers were also a blast for me - Santas Sleigh / The Abyss ]

So that makes three of us already who would like to be able to lay down. You, me and Nok. :)

I want it for the reasons you do, but it would be useful for non roleplayers as well. For instance if I were to make an evil character and wanted to fake a dead body so that I could lure a victim closer to come "loot" or "see", I could lay the body down and wait patiently.

The ability to customize castles and keeps.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.

The things you could do...

No.
No.
No.

I can't even begin to imagine some of the things people would do with that... however, three or four pre-set castle/keep desings, yes, emphatically yes
:) Aside from a self interest, which I sincerely try to avoid at all costs, my point is twofold. One, the "coolest" looking houses in UO are all customizable, easily "leaving behind" the older designs, castles and keeps in particular. While it's true that player ingenuity, or lack thereof, can make 24x24s and 31x31s quite an eyesore, they can also make them quite attractive additions to the game. My best guess is that you'll see much more of the latter, it fits the owners in most cases. Second, and more importantly, is an issue of desirability and long term goal, and what this inherently means to subscriptions. Other than storage (and potentially "status" for some), our largest structures lost their appeal. "Property/ real estate" in UO was once a major interest to many, and served as a marketing theme. In an open ended game, long term goals really, really count. As I observe, albeit with potential oversight, the two principle long term goals have been character development and one's "dwelling." A better pet, or a more powerful item, might serve as valid short or mid term goals (I've tried for several years to get a set of assassin armor), but at the end of the day, these are extensions of a player's characters themselves. So getting the largest houses on board with added "coolness" is more for the aspiration aspect than anything else, current "drawbacks" work contrary to appropriate themes.

I struggled a bit with whether to say "customize castles/ keeps" or to use my "one addition" to talk character development/ caps/ skills. For me, both are along the long term goals principle, and both equally important to player sustainment. Once one's characters are "done," it seems interst wanes-particularly between events. I do think skill caps can go to 750, stats to 250 (base), and individual skills to 150. I would strongly recommend against "rescaling" skills as we've seen in the past, e.g. magery bumping up to 120 for 100% success on level 8 spells. Further, I'd allow any/all skills to go to 150, and remove powerscrolls from the "skill" equation completely. I would drop veteran association to skill caps. This serves several purposes. It keeps characters more dynamic, and keeps players more engaged with their characters. It'll have the side effect of adding revenue for soulstones. On one of my accounts, I took all characters to 6x120s. Once climbing that hill, it dawned on me that many of my 7 skill characters on a second account performed better overall. So out came the credit card to enable more flexibility/ versitilty on the 6 skill account via stones. While I have several characters that may benefit from a 5x150 base, my guess is there would be some "regression," and more stones. I've seen many others "enjoy" the same experience!

So, a little food for thought, and hopefully I've explained the "intent" a little better here.

I would like to use the already exisitng npc homes as a way to build up towns. It would take up no additional housing spots, set up a system like the moonglow zoo where the number of items (not gold) you donate allow you to use and interact in the homes. Crafters would play the bulk part but every town needs hunters and gatherers too. "Townspeople" can elect a mayor via the faction voting system and smaller quests like defending the town against orcs would require everyone to take part from crafting exceptional weapons and food for the warriors defending the town.

I've always been a little fond of the ability, that's present in several Asian MMOs that I've tried, to set yourself up as a vendor.

The mechanic varies, from case to case.
If it existed in UO, it would allow anyone to set up a vendor in a well-travelled area.
And, it would allow casual vending, more.

Ah, yes. Overwrite my house boat idea with this. A while back I played Final Fantasy XI and I always admired the option to setup a bazaar in your pack while you were hanging around town. With a bazaar, people could click your pack and purchase items straight from you in the city while you were AFK.

Absolutely love the idea, and it would make a splendid addition to UO. Single-click someone, perhaps, and have the option to 'View Items for Sale'. Mmmm, the possibilities.

You got it spot on.

There once was a time when:
- Parading around with a galant dragon or nightmare was a rare and much envied thing - gone
- Being a 7xGM was a huge accomplishment - gone
- Owning a castle meant you were either a veteran player or filthy rich (most likely both) - gone
- Grand mastering any one skill took months, in some cases even a year - gone

To be honest, I'm not sure if we have "biggies" like that anymore? :-(

I hadn't thought of the achievement value aspect before Harb, a good thing you brought it up.

My reasons for wanting to customize castles and keeps is because of the sheer possibilities of what you could do with a plot that size:

Build a:
- Small town
- Guild quarters with barracks, armory etc all in different buildings
- Small shops for the various wares
- Event arena

I've had grand schemes and good causes with my castles, but they were always restricted because I could not modify the architecture.

Big Mamas Nightclub had a women's and men's washroom, two bars, one dance floor, seating areas, a ticket booth etc - but if only I could have had doors for the bathrooms, a proper counter for the bars, a big enough dance floor with colored tiles, a proper ticket booth counter and seating areas which were elsewhere except along corridors.

Big Mamas Apartmentos had each corner room being rented out to a tenant and the middle rooms were for socializing. There was a bathing area and sauna too. If only the rooms could have had their own doors with locks so others couldn't barge in, different sized rooms for different needs (yeah I even had a couple as a pair of tenants), balconies for the apartments and the possibility to build a proper sauna.

At one point I created a Dragon Slaying Arena which was meant to have weekly competitions, but gave up before I even started - the place was just too small. That would have been amaaaazing on a castle sized plot - complete with stables for the animals, a huge seating dome, snack bars, ticket booths etc etc.

I also built a Greek Vacation Village and payed accounts to have three houses. The idea was to arrange vacation packages for newlyweds, Greek dinner nights and others just looking for a unique experience. But again, I gave up before I even started. I couldn't afford to pay for three houses forever. With a castle plot I could have created a whole village of small houses for each customer.

These are just a few examples and the reason I wanted to go into more depth with these examples was to PROVE those people wrong who just assume that castle owners are greedy and merely want to posh up their place. I am sure that many would start up some similar kind of place for the public if they could do something practical with the plot!

I would add government and a way to tax everyone of their gold then the body of leaders that are voted in or ranked guilds status can use that money to purchase community usable content.

Some of the content would be something that can be used to destroy the world as we know it, such as locking out people from dungeons, territory and resources.

That way there would be good against evil again in the game. There would be an over all mission to playing against other people. We have to fight and win against the evil or the game literally can not be played.

I would use a parliament type system of government such as in many countries in Europe. That way a percentage of evil will always exists.

LOL that would be funny if each shard had some kind of government (king, president, etc), but had a revolution system built in so players could overthrow the government and set up a dictator if they want.

If I could add one thing, it would be more players.

I suppose the way to achieve this would be a marketing effort. I can imagine an adds for SA that say something like "Eye candy. We have that now. (shots of new client) Maybe you remember when games had real depth (classic shots from the 2d client). You can have your cake and eat it too (shots of the SA client featureing new content).

People complain about UO, but it is still a wonderful game. The way to make the world more dynamic is to add people.

I'm not dreaming. I realize that the marketing effort for SA is probably going to be sparse at best, but even a low budget marketing push could work if the money is spent in the right places. Just getting boxes back on shelves in the US would help.

;) Cursed ( cant be insured , so free to steal or loot )

;) Cant be moved out of Backpack/Paperdoll ( if you are the owner you have to face it )
i think you're gonna have to choose between the two here.

**i would like to see cross-server integration**
so that particular lands (and the vendors in them [which, of course, would not be set up in a person's house since you couldn't have houses there]) are connected and people from all shards can go there to shop, fight, hunt, and socialize. (yes, it would be subject to population limits)

Warhammer-engine as graphic-engine for UO ?
You can swim and see the sky there...
you can swim/see the sky in just about EVERY other game. it gets old... just like warhammer beta got so old, even though i could swim and see the sky, that i decided not to buy the game.

Now I'm the first to admit that beautiful skies, sunsets etc are something very enjoyable in 3D MMOs, god knows how many screenshots I've taken of those.

But UO was never that kind of game for me. I've never wanted to "see the sky" in UO because the type of immersion is of a completely different breed than other MMOS.

In 3D MMOs you actually dive right into the middle of the world and look around. It feels immersive to move around and explore your surroundings. But the downside is that the immersion is killed once you go close enough to anything, revealing the bulky geometry and the ugly blurry patches of the compressed texture images. Nothing is left to your imagination to compensate. It's all in your face and there's no getting away from the blatant truth that your character looks anything but living.

Where as in UO, everything is so far away that your mind uses imagination to compensate for everything you cannot see, painting a much more vivid and real picture in your mind. Your truth is never trampled by the ugly restrictions of graphic quality. This is especially present when we imagine what the faces of our characters look like. I always feel let down when I look up close at my 3D characters in other MMOs and feel disconnected, but I never feel that way with my UO characters. In fact, they have been my dearest and most believable characters to date.

So it's a different kind of immersion, each game breed has it's own pros and cons - and that's a good thing.

As for swimming, I would actually love it very much if our characters could swim because not being able to, has restricted so many moments in the past. It would also be quite exciting for newbies trying to get to different islands and having to face the dangers of the deep. :)

"Seeing the sky"... just not really that good of an option for UO IMO.

That being said, one of my favorite things that has been yanked out of KR graphically was the "overlay" that scrolled constantly of cloud shadows. While people claimed that it made the client darker and harder to see, for me, it added just a little bit more personality to the world. I hope we can get that back along with better weather and day/night effects.

There are a LOT of things that can be done to give the UO world a more alive and dynamic feel within the constraints of the viewpoint... I hope we can experience them.

I would add a completely rewritten sliding scale for loot, that took into account a monsters difficulty, and how hard it was to reach. A Balron at the bottom of Hythloth would give better items than a Balron in Blood/Ilsh. Makes sense that a creature living further away from everything would have been there longer, and have gathered more treasure.
The harder the monster, and the harder to reach, the better quality loot.

Each creature should also give fewer items, but of higher quality. Peerless and Doom bosses should only drop 1-5 items, but they should be worth looting.

If you could add just one thing to Ultima Online, what would it be? A new mount, new weapon, new skill, new hue, new spell?

I'd personally love to add a 'house boat'. House boats would be purchasable and placeable in the same locations as normal ships in the game. However, house boats would contain up to two levels, two rooms on each level, and a storage hull for storing items that would hold items even when the house boat is drydocked. This, of course, would take up storage space in your pack, but could act similarly to BOD Books in that a certain amount of items (i.e. 100) would only take up 1 item slot in your pack.

House boats would act as a house on your account and would follow the current housing rules (i.e. one house OR house boat per account).

Pricing for house boats would be as follows:

Small House Boat: One level, two rooms, ~500 item storage hull-- 128,000gp.

Medium House Boat: Two levels, three rooms (2 on bottom, 1 on top), ~1,500 item storage hull-- 456,000gp.

Large House Boat: Two levels, four rooms, ~2,500 item storage hull-- 712,000gp.

As stated, the hull-to-in-pack-item ratio could be 100:1. So, the 2,500 item storage hull-- when drydocked-- would take up 25 item slots in your pack.

House boats would have to be placed in the water in order to retrieve items from their hulls. A house boat would have a decay period twice as long as that of a normal ship. Similar to current houses, house boat owners could edit who has the ability to open the boat's plank and walk on board.

Got any ideas? Throw 'em out!
yes how about real game support no more boguse knoledge base

If I could have ONE thing it would be an optimized and rebuilt client.

With all the ORIGINAL UO art in better resolution (IE: Saripheena has shown it's possible)

With UOA functions brought in client side and a customizable interface.

Or if I can't have that then I'd want an addictive collectable card game INSIDE the game. I spent more time in FF8 playing the cards then I did playing the actual game.

I can name a lot but i will only list a small handful of things.
  1. Fully Costumizable Castles and keeps.
  2. The ability to swim, dive and fly.
  3. More races including a Dwarf race.
  4. More storage like at least 10000 storage for a 18x18 house.
  5. The ability to time travel and go back in time once a day to make up for a single mistake.
Those are just a few things i can think of that i would add to UO if i had the power to do so.

Well if it has to be only one thing then I'd choose animal Husbandtry!!! That's breeding and raising animals.

Well first you could only breed animals of like kind Dragons with dragons, horses with horses etc, etc

I think it'd be so freaking cool to cross Nightmares and Firesteeds or Dread horses with Sliversteeds. (btw, could we have those back?)

cross greater dragons with white wryms

The stats and properties would be a random assortment of what the two parent creatures have.

Oh how many things I would love to see.

I would like to have us do about 4 or 5 alternate designs for castles and keeps..... ones that are..... Voted on... perhaps made by good players who are talented designers.... and make it so you can choose which to use as a castle/keep owner. And for pity sake allow the castle and keep owners to use those parts of their buildings they currently can't.... so silly....

I would like to see folk be able to build a town and when they have a town get stuff ..... like roads.... and stables..... things like that...

Would like to see the NPC's talk again.... I miss that.

Would like to have a "Cellar or basement" to my homes.

Would like to have more stable slots

Would like to breed pets.

Children?

More races including, Dragon, Jukka, Meer, Dwarf, Orc, Demon, And perhaps a halfling.

Would like to see some revamping done to cities and dungeons.

Would like to see all the seasons change, Spring, summer winter and fall....

I like the idea of custom music too for bards.. that would be cool.

And finally.... would like to see more stuff like new clothing styles, new housing tiles (Give us more of the existing ones we don't have).... partial stairs, walls, curved water tiles and dirt with edges like a path, raised flooring.....

I think that's enough for now
