If this is a auto ban word, how did they create the name?

I have had a friend banned for 24 hours for simply using the R-word as it's called in an emote to a dead meer corpse. If EA/Mythic can auto ban you for the use of the word how can that word pass through the name filter? I blocked out the last part of the chars name so they can't be identified, but you see it starts with a V.... use your imagination on what that could be.

I don't approve of the name at all, but I really hate the idea of yet more letters cobbled together to not create names with. I would rather page on someone with the social IQ of a child than be barred from putting certain letters together that might be prohibited as part of an OK name.

I'm already barred from using names like Cassandra.

Yeah unfortunatly that word is common language among *LEET* pvp'rs. Every game I play I see it a million times.

I just think we need to come up with a new word, cus honestly it makes no sense...if I kill you in pvp that is NOT the word I would use to describe what I did :/

I can understand that line of thinking. I mean for me personally, I am a HUGE freedom of speech person. I personally say have at it, say what you want, name your char what you want. If it offends someone then that's their problem and they can walk away, or ignore you, just like in life. I ain't one of the ones doing the offending, in life nor in game, but I can respect their right to do so *shrugs* .... Just hate inconsistent things like this deal.

You can say that, but somehow I can bet the person who actually wrote that name might very well be over 25.

i made a new account one day, named my character Honky, mind you the character still had the young status at the time, someone paged on me and i got pulled into jail, GM told me i would be getting suspended i was like ok... can't i just change the name? he said no you're getting suspended....

he actually lied to me because he perma banned me, over a stupid name honky, im a white person anyway so i just thought the name was funny, its like dave chapelle humor, i don't see how that gets your perma banned though, the word hardly ever get used

on top of that the character was young at the time ! what if i was a new customer, this is how they treat paying customers instead of offering to change their name for them, insta ban.... how dumb, i would have just left uo and never thought twice about coming back if that was my first account

Yeah, it could become a lot worse now that people are linking accounts from their games and the games they play. What if you said something bad on the BioWare forums and got banned from UO, Warhammer, Camelot, and SWTOR? And Battlefield 3 and whatever else is using the new system?

And this is why I have a new account/new email/new name for everything I do, I am a very opinionated person and have never stepped away from telling the game makers how bad they suck at their job (Not our developers but the people in charge, lets keep that in mind who ever decides to quote me.)

They want to link everything together, so I go to the extreme to make sure they can't. The guise of "ease" is really just a matter of "control".

I did bring it to the boards to merely point out an inconsistiency that probably should be addressed mainly. I don't see how they can ban {24 hour or otherwise} for a word that is allowed to be created as a player name. If new person A see's person B running around with the name, then person A assumes it's not against TOS seeing as how someone is named that, and it made it past EA/Mythic's filter. Then proceeds to use the word in the wrong setting they get slapped with a time out.

For a second motive, I did indeed figure it would be a topic for some of us to be able to spend said idle time on....

Discussion and debate is never a bad thing...

Probably is tho, but when things are brought up that could cost a newer player their account due to the example above something should change. After all, they do not list a set of words in the TOS that are no-no's.

**** is not a curse word, UO doesn't issue suspensions for curse words anyway, and no ban upon the use of the word **** is listed anywhere official to my knowledge.

It's bull****, plain and simple. Yes **** is bad. So what?

Murder is bad. I won't get auto-banned for saying murder. I won't get auto-banned for saying Holocaust, cancer, AIDS, torture, ****ting **** nipples or prolapsed colon.

So why's this one word magical and unique? Why is it the one thing our derelict GM staff seems to notice? General Chat is a perpetual toilet of obscenity and they don't do a thing.
