If EA really wanted to revive UO, they should revive Ultima.. Here is how..

Hey there, first off I am sorry for my loooong in-activity.. My accounts are still active and I plan to come back to UO very shortly! UO comes first however.. I will even do reporting again on my home shard - Pacific.. I still need to get the expansion as well!

On with the post... I really believe that EA should restart Ultima X, or revive the series by re-making the first Ultima game and title it as "Ultima" But instead of making this one not only for the PC, they could perhaps make it for a bigger market.. A market such as PS3 and X-Box 360, where any game can be very successful if people enjoy it.. Hell they could have taken Dragon Age: Origins and titled it "Ultima" As it is very similar.. But they didn't.. I wish they would and get a respectable development team to do it. Maybe Besthesda? (Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3.) Garriot has even said he would come back to make another Ultima if they ever asked him to...

Anyways, I just wanted to get this thought out.. I believe this would also get new people interested in UO, by re-creating Ultima for a bigger market, where it can be very successful.. If UO died, I would be very sad if there were no more Ultima games, online or not.

ps3 is a bigger market than pc ?
Hehe, no silly.. PC's are more popular, but now and days, single player games have a bigger player base when it comes to the 360 and PS3.. Usually games will release for all 3 now and days.. More people buy 360 games though than anything else at the moment.. That and Nintendo Wii, which usually has entirely different games.

Im actully okay with UO. as is. (Well 2D not EC or SA)

I think UO Should market the "Game" Who cares about the engine it is running on, (Yes its old) but thats what we love about UO.

The game itself speaks for greatness. What other MMO can you own your own house? Have your own boat? Run a store?

UO Is like a fat kid, just really not secure with themselves. Be happy who you are and what you got, and get on with life!

Weren't you raving about Darkfall a while back. Kind of off-topic I know but how was your experience there?

X would have been a terrible mistake and was rectified. Wishing it would return is just plain stupid.

I was just thinking yesterday how awesome a remake of every game in the Ultima series on the Oblivion engine would be. I would buy all of them.

If Bethesda made an Ultima game they might as well rename it Bugltima online.

People don't want of UO graphics anymore.
Should it be the best game on the planet, as it once was, nobody would start playing it and stay for very long.
Well... almost nobody :)

For some reason, people go for graphics and good graphic games suck donkey balls... and they close, like Asheron's Call II did first, followed by many others and those who haven't closed besides WoW not being in very good shape.

Mythic fell for it with Warhammer too. Nice graphics but shallow game, look at who stills plays that game... not many.

I don't see any bright future for online gaming as long as developers follow the Evercrap route like WoW did. That genre is doomed.

Player populations are scattered nowadays, EVE online looking the only realistic alternative to WoW, all others have failed IMHO.

Current Subs: WoW, Darkfall, UO, Fallen Earth

I know it is a lot to take in.. I plan on canceling WoW though..

Darkfall is a very good game btw, now that all the kinks are worked out.

Noooo.. I don't want it to return.. I want them to start a new project though to bring in a new single player Ultima game.. It would be Ultima 10 though.. Im not saying start from where they left off.. I am saying re-do it entirely.. Or re-make the series from game one, new engine, new graphics, better gameplay, with the same sandbox style of a game.. I am talking single player though, not online..

Isn't there some legal problem that has prevented them from making any more. It had something to do with how the copyrights were split between EA and Garriot or something.

The next frontier is in overlapping worlds ... where you make a specialized game for a console or portable that coexists with the main MMORPG world as an alternate specialized client only able to access one corner of the game world.

It could be a full game on a separate mini-facet or a simple cellphone app that would let you maintain your plants if you had properly set up a 6x6 area of your house with a proper block of containers that becomes the mini-map of the app.

CCP are doing that with Eve Online. I have no idea how it works though. The console game is a shoot-em-up type affair (called Dust 514) that also effects the MMO.

I agree with Miriandel. If UO looked like Aion, WoW or some other game I'd never get anything done and I'm pretty sure new players would be a lot more satisfied with UO than the other "forced grouping BS" games. Yeah yeah, there's a "few" players (don't kid yourselves, just a few) that enjoy having to be crammed into groups...where the hell is the fun in that? It's like an assembly line. Get quest, spam LFG, group with 2-6 people who may or may not be asshats who roll for gear they don't need but your character could use...yeah boy....lot's and lot's of fun there...yeah right, not.

I have recently tried Aion, it's okay but it's not UO. It sure looks a lot more interesting graphically than UO but it most def lacks the depth of UO as does every other online game out there. I can't imagine how nice it'd be to have a UO that had amazing graphics and depth not to mention freedom from the forced BS grouping.

Of course there are always the people that have to have their 2-d cardboard box client, not slammin anyone but wtf kind of computer are you using if all you can handle is 2-d? A 386? Damn I just built an i7, 9 gigs ram (yes 9), rampage extreme mobo, Asus 260 GPU for under 1000 dollars including the OS, a dual terabyte hard drive running raid at 10k rpms plus oc'ing coolant rig. That's 600 dollars less than the first 386 I bought.

I suppose all the people can't be pleased period so I'll still love my UO, 2-d or not. It's just a shame the graphics are never going to be upgraded to a new engine. They can call the "new" client whatever they want but it looks worse than 2-d imo but hey, at least they tried.

For what it's worth the new expansion is awesome regardless.

I forgot about this.. When Garriot left EA he took the rights to this name

Lord British..

Therefore, EA can no longer implement Lord British back into UO lore.. This is why they made new lore with Lord Casca as king, etc..

What they could probably do is make a single player game based on just that! The current UO lore..

Upgrade your game, get SA, enhance. When your all set up take a short break.

Go buy Oblivion, play the game, check out the views, check out the quests.

If they would release an online Oblivion, UO style, that's when I would change games. So, the question is, will UO become a better game in time?

Maybe a type of Chocobo world that you can play online on your mobile?

Collect treasures, then when you login with your PC, you can opt to convert your treasures into random things in UO. Mustn't be rares or things you can't get in the game though. Maybe decor stuff? Or peerless regs, imbuing materials?

Just throwing out ideas.

yes darkfall is a good game, i played it for about 6 months and quit temporarily because of the UO expansion, ill reactivate it again once uo becomes semi boring.... but as for the person that said "What other MMO can you own your own house? Have your own boat? Run a store?" In darkfall you can own your own house, own your own boat actually craft your own boats too, and as of the next expansion u can have player vendors, its basically a good looking 3D version of uo with felucca only, don't get me wrong i only play uo in 2d but its fun to play darkfall too just for that feeling of always needing eyes in the back of your head cause u can get pked doing pretty much anything
