Ideas for Siege?

What can be done to better the Siege experience? A better starting location? People who make such a starting location their main base of operations? I know seeing people would have helped me out the first time I tried Siege, Britain was empty during prime time. Keep in mind code changes are unlikely unless they are very simple.. this would probably have to be a player-driven effort. Most, actually all, of the Siege base is siphoned off of production shards and community is/was one of its better strengths. Despite recent happenings there must be some good ideas out there, involving players. Welcoming and Intro events are good, but they are sporadic and would be bettered by a consistent presence.

I believe most if not all newborn players start at the Britain Inn. The best and most realistic suggestion I can think of is if there was a way to get to the new players once they start at Brit inn.

A bulletin board would be nice, last I checked most of the Fel boards were blank (I'm guessing they get erased after a point). An NPC would not be nearly as good as seeing players running about. No comment on the books.

Yes, I think it's the old style bulletin board that deletes the posts after several hours. Useless for their real purpose.

So, considering the wost-case (and likely) scenario of random posts, how long should bulletin board posts last? I'm not even sure there is one at the inn's starting spot it's been so long. But I'm sure it could be added to the wall, allowing anyone to post welcome (and otherwise) messages. I know C++ and adjusting the timer on posts is likely very simple, even if just for Siege. This would probably be an easy addition.

New players do check their surroundings.. bulletin boards are likely the first object checked on a new shard. I did.. they were blank.

I'm going to suggest 12 hours? That should be enough time for anyone who has messages to new players to make sure the message is seen, and ensures that it must be personally updated to continue.

I wish I could remember where exactly a new player starts; one of the rooms in the inn (with a bulletin board on the wall) would be good.

I started 3 weeks ago and my character started right outside the inn in the center of Britan...which was a great introduction to Siege as I had to run like hell to avoid Dragons and the like due to the invasion! I survived but only just!

I am utterly shocked that you could have the temerity to start this thread. It is quite laughable. We HAD something in place for newcomers. Virtually nothing else we can do can match that. Thanks to your actions it is no longer there.

The problem with Bulletin boards is that it allows any dip**** and their brother to post. Do you really want the first thing someone sees when they enter Siege is 'Joo SuX, e4t the Firm Koc!' or some other crap that gets constantly spewed? And we all know it will happen, history has proven it time and time again that some people just have to be asshats.

If there was some type of bulletin board that directed people to the website listing guilds for Siege or something along those lines, I just don't really see anything being helpful that is impartial. Unfortunately you can't direct people to starter guilds without being biased and well, while you have no comment now, you certainly did previously.

The fact is, it did show favoritism to a single guild, no matter what your opinion about this bias is. The idea that somehow the shard population is going to ride him for voicing his opinion is pretty bad imo. Sweeney was not the only one who felt this way, he just happend to be the most vocal, so it seems he is getting the brunt of this.

I won't say that the books didn't help, but at the same time, I won't come out and say that the shard will be hurt by their absence...la

Sweeney went about it wrong. Instead of lobbying for the removal of the books and then starting a thread about what can we do, blah blah blah. He should have started a thread that says 'What can we do, because I feel the NEW books are biased.' It may be that the book text could have been modified or some other compromise could have been reached.

That being said, considering we just had books removed, we look like ******* going in and asking for a bulletin board or some other special thing addition to help newcomers to the shard. That and Sweeney looks bad for starting the thread.

It's all about how you go about doing things, and while I don't really disagree with anything you said Rico or what happened to the books, how it was handled was extremely poor. And since Sweeney is the most outspoken on it, he's the one who's going to bear the wrath.

The sad thing is the Books weren't biased because the "New" guild was just a temporary place for newcomers to take some shelter for one month, learn the ropes about Seige and meet some people, then move on to a guild of their choice. It's not like New is out there PvPing and selling back your Arties. Since this was taken away, it would be nice to somehow list all the guilds of Seige with a contact person (maybe in a book that is locked down) with NEW as a place to get on your feet or choose another guild to hook up with. People come here with no direction, no friends, get killed and have no idea where to turn for the "Community" spirit they are looking for. Not everyone reads Stratics.

The thing I do to at least try to assist NEW in some way is that whenever I see a NEW book I move it one tile in any direction to reset the decay timer.

It´s not much but it´s something...

Kelmo almost dared me to start this thread, and I think we both knew what would happen to it. I'm not concerned about ticking Hoff's off.. originally he was fuming at the old EM, now fuming at me (I purposely painted the target on my back). Unless the EM is lying it was EA's decision, yet noone is fuming at EA. I am concerned about the professional conduct some people, notably the co-leader and leader of guilds, should have. The mob mentality already shown proves how contagious hatred in power is.

I am all for debate and even argument, but when someone has nothing to say but it is "laughable" for wanting to discuss ways to improve the shard, when people resort to say I am brown-nosing the EM for defending his impartiality, when absolutely nothing new is added to the discussion but new ways to insult me.. this is absurd, most of you are adults.

Check some of the old 'Siege ideas' threads.. I didn't see locked down NEW books in any of them. I think that's because the books were already being placed.

I'd be willing to bet most if not all newbies check the bulletin boards, until they realize nobody is using them.

I've said it before it shows a great deal of dedication to place the books and I respect what Shalimar does.
