Idea - Vendor Guild Discounts

I would like to see the ability to give your own guild members a discount on items you put on your vendor.

So as I see it...
You would open up the vendor menu.
There would be a drop down with Guild Discount.
It would default to 0% discount and go up in increments of 5%.
There would be an upper limit (perhaps 25%) so people wouldn't abuse it somehow. (Imagine a guild of 1 member putting a bunch of stuff on their vendor for storage at insane prices)
You would put the item on with the intended price (before discount)
All current rules of vendoring would not change.

What would this accomplish...
Guilds usually have donation chests and such but have to secure and ration out large ticket items. This would allow them to set-up a vendor with these items and keep the price reasonable for their members but not too low they get bought out constantly by other people. It would be less exploitable then a guild only vendor and more manageable then a donation chest or a quartermaster system.

Problems that would have to be worked out...
Characters on your account are in multiple guilds.
Your character gets booted from a guild.

What ya think?
Any merit?

How about big discount for anyone outside of Luna?

Edit: By this I mean on vendor fees, not prices of items.

How about talking to your guild mates?

Goddamn, I swear to god people just don't want to communicate with other people. It started with repair deeds. Fine, I can see that. Random smiths and tailors might jack your stuff. But guild mates? If a guild mate wants something of yours, ICQ/Guildchat/Ventrilo. Seriously. ;[

This is a fantastic idea. I would like to have guild discounts on vendors. It would encourage guild-internal trading and strengthen the bonds of a guild.

Interesting idea, but a Guild Share secure box is usually a reasonable enough alternative, which does suffer from the "tragedy of the commons," but is usually a fairly easy and safe way to distribute items.

Luna is popular because the entire area is mapped and known to the consumer; the best way to improve vendors outside of Luna would be to create an internal system which could map out all vendors and list them from a central database. The lonely vendors in the corners of the universe won't sell things any easier just because they have a few thousand more days to do it.

How many members does your guild have? Tully's guild has around 700 members from over a dozen different countries (i.e., different timezones). Makes talking to every member somewhat challenging.

I talk, I communicate, I use my guild forum boards, I use my guild chat, I chat up in person, our guild has donation boxes, our guild has TS (though that one I don't avail myself to), I use mailboxes with books for letters, I use bulletin boards, etc.

So it isn't about communication. I think I am pretty social when it comes to UO. It is just an idea. Back off a bit Vaen. I understand you want the social aspect of UO and I am all for that. This is not something that is meant to diminish MMO part of UO. If you think it will lessen the social interaction, that may be a valid argument but I am not quite buying it yet. And definitely not with your approach in your posts. Not looking for an argument here so I'll leave it at that.

I would like to supply cheap goods to my mates when they need them. Not free like a donation box but cheap. But if I stock a vendor of say recalls at 30 gold each they are bought out at record speed by others. So if they were set at 40 gold with a 25% discount for my guild members, they might stay there a bit unless my guildmates needed a bunch. And we wouldn't have to play "catch me on if you can" type games. And the 25% cap would make it so if other players wanted to buy them they could just at the regular rate. So it wouldn't end up like BOD storage on a vendor where you can look but can't touch.
