Idea - New House Security level, Builder/Customizer

I'm not sure if someone has suggested this in the past or not, but I wonder how nice it would be to allow a non-owner character the ability to go into customize mode and build/change the house design.

This level of access would have no other access to the house, unless also added to the friends or co-owner lists.

As I'm picturing it, someone with Customize access, or on a Customizer list, would not have access to commit the design.

This idea would go quite a ways for allowing people that enjoy designing houses to design houses for those with less desire or talent. This might also allow for a new merchant business to be created.

I bring this up because I believe that a friend of mine will be asking me to design a new house or two. Currently, she gives me her account information and I log on to her account. As is I don't feel comfortable about the whole process and I would NOT recommend that to anyone! With this idea, we wouldn't have to do that.

House Designer tool. IDEA

You can use it on any plot to get it size and apply to house model. Next, you customize you own model.

Ready model can be traded to house owner, both need to be at sign, designer display preview on actual plot, owner put design payment and apply changes.

Ahh, a tool!

One that can be designed on, and that design can be saved in the tool.

A tool that can then be traded/sold.

After purchasing a tool containing a design, the house owner would then have the ability to commit the design at their house.

The house design contained may need to be viewable somehow by prospective buyers.

The designer will need to go into design mode some how. Not all designers will have their own house on the shard. Maybe at a carpenter shop, there is an item or feature that will cause you to dissapear from the game, as a current house customization does, and displays a house plot from predetermined measurements.

Hmm... While a tool seems logical, it would really require that the designer have access to a plot of the same dimensions. While possible, I see that as a potential stumbling block.

The OP's idea of a new security level an owner can bestow on a designer makes the most sense and would allow the designer a better feel for the environment the house is in.

A designer should have access to the design menu only, no storage crate access. The original house design should be saved at all times, but the designer should be able to commit their design for free for 5 mins to be viewed by the owner(s).

This could definitely open up a new market for commerce and free us from giving out account info, or hopping back and forth between TC and our home shards to design houses.

The tool concept COULD work, but I would suggest a deed is created by the tool that lists the dimensions of the house.

okay - but what about things that owners lock down and perhaps this non-owner could not unlock? Like fountains of Health and other items needing to be unlocked and removed before customization can be done.

The owner would have to get off their lazy butt and get the house ready for customization, just like they would have to do if they were going to customize themselves.

Sorry, but thats just a 'Duh.'

I've broached this subject many many times in the past.

I think there should be a way to allow someone else to custom your home.

My suggestion was that you and the "designer" stand under the house sign... you click the sign and say choose custom... Then choose allow designer to customize this house... cursor comes up you choose designer then it should say give you a payment option... you both agree and then the designer can choose customize house.... once the designer does that the designer gets a blank house plot. All the stuff goes into the moving crate. the designer customizes the house and hits save design. Then the owner goes in and checks the design and if they like it they hit accept design.... if not the designer returns to custom mode... makes changes and saves again... until both are happy then the owner hits accept and will of course have to unpack the house.

This is when I think you should be allowed to set up a decorator as well. Granting them special access to your house. The decorator would be allowed to lock down and secure containers but only those that are in a special "design" crate set up by the owner. All the owners things would either be locked down already (anything that is locked down by the owner would not be accessible to the designer) and then the decorator also gets paid like the designer. Once the work is done the owner then dismisses the designer and the designer gets a check from the house sign... this comes out of the owners bank.

Anyway it is probably very risky and difficult to code.

But I agree I love designing and decorating for friends and all but I do get a tad nervous about being on their account and having their account information. I would hate to have anything happen and I just get very nervous. Also I feel weird and not right on someone elses character.

That is exactly how I was trying to describe using my friend's account!

Whether it's new security level, tool, or option/process doesn't really matter to me. As long as it is some way to allow a character to customize a house for another account.
