Idea for new Mailboxes

I was thinking of a possible update to the mailboxes that could make them really cool. If they added a feature that allowed a person to send outgoing mail to another player, it would be awesome. Players could link mailboxes to other players, so there is no unwanted mail. They could set up the delivery services by need:

1. Instant Delivery - Charge of 10,000 gold to your bank account

2. 1 Hour Rush Delivery - Charge of 5,000 gold to your bank account

3. Standard Overnight - Free of Charge.

Let me know what you think :)

Nice idea! :thumbup1:

I have seen a few ideas to add the ability to send or leave a "message", but your is the first I have seen with charges involved. It could be an interesting gold sink...

How would this get to a player named "Joe"? Would you be able to see a list of account names and send something to an account?

Sounds like a good delivery system for those sites I see in books on the ground.

You make a very good point. I would never give my account name out and would not be particularly happy if UO did, so therein lies the problem. On games like WoW, you cannot have the same name as another person...in uo there are hundreds of Caramons and Joes. There would be no way to determine who you are actually sending it to unless someone has an idea that I can't seem to think of? Unless they put in some way to store folks names on your paperdoll (or somewhere else) by targeting them.

I guess I read the bolded part as the method to "link" the mail boxes and determine who you are sending to. Possibly a better idea is a contact list (buddy, friend, whatever you want to call it). Click on someone and add them to your list. From that point forward you can send them messages. Make the other person have to allow the addition of their name to the contact list. Maybe like the co-owner interface works on a house.

There ya go Schuyler...I think that would work and would be a very nice feature (great suggestion Slim29!)

It could be implemented another way. Any character can generate an "Account card" that you can give everyone, it will have your character name or house name. You can "add" that card to your house mailbox and send to that card/address/player when he want just by choosing that character/card from the mail list.

Good idea.

Link it by activating the mailbox, asking it for a "postman" token. You then go to a house that you wish to allow to link to your mail box, double-click the token and target the box.

When you address mail, you pick the receiver by house name (address) and off it goes.

You could even make it a dual-channel link, so that both parties have to approve the linkage from the token.

This would allow things like Paxoku's mailroom to make more sense, as the mayor and officials could send out fliers and other items as the town needs.

As for charges -- I'd say you charge by STONES. Always charge, so make it 20gp per stone for standard delivery (4-6 hours), 5000 per stone for immediate.

Now if we wanted it to be game immersive, every house that has a mailbox set up should have a "postman" npc appear whenever mail is to be delivered.
