Idea came to me as i was undressing my char to repair her items.

A craftable chest created buy each type of crafter to automatically repair items.

Tailor - Loom attached to a fancy Chest
Blacksmith - Anvil on top of barrel attached to forge
Fletcher - Sword display attache to a chest (call it a bow press)

Now each of these items can be crafted buy an appropriate crafter with 100 min in skill and another like attached skill (arms lore, Item ID, etc).

Once place they can ONLY be used by the Owner / Co-Owner of the house so as not to totally undue the repair deed market.

This would allow chars who repair their own items to do it by placing the item in the container in their house without having to log out and change chars.

As creative as it is, in idea...........it takes away from the characters, specifically smith and tailor.

Bags of unraveling have done this already....as tedious as it is to unravel and/or smelt......it was the thing. Repairs fall under the same umbrella, as much as a pain in the arse as it is to have to undress, and switch chars about, that's what makes UO....UO.

Simplifying the chars actions is watering the game down more than it has been.....IE; Advanced character tokens/(pure laziness)

terrible idea. A for creativity.

Last thing we need is a box that does it all.

We need things that dont reduce player contact and/or degrade class skills.

good idea, but a better idea would be to make the box require charges, which the repair deeds replenish. 2 repair deeds = 1 charge, 10 charges max; only gm repairs or better will work. that way, you can either use 1 repair deed and seek out an NPC smith shop, or charge your box with 2 deeds, and repair at home.

How about we invent a time machine and go back in time to when there was smiths and tailors at shops, people lining up to get them to repair their items...

Banks full of people and PvP fights being Huge.

I just read some very old threads at one UO PvP boards and it got me sad. Man I miss the days when the fights could be like 20vs20 etc.. And there was action at any time of the day.

Put a vendor at your house with spread of deeds. Any character on the vendor placed account can pull the deeds for free. Passerbyes pay.

I'd rather see repair deeds go away and a system put in place that allows us to go back to the days of smiths hanging out at shops doing repairs. I realize that these days it's not likely anyone is going to hand over a multi million gold artifact to a smith they don't really know and hope he's going to be honest and not steal it. Instead I'd like to see some sort of secure repair system, or allow us to repair items in a trade window. Lets bring back player interaction.

thinking back, i think it's funny how the lines were for repairs. items weren't exactly that valued then, and were easily replaced. it wasn't until colored ore had better AR values that i saw any use for repairs, the only items i repaired before that were magic ones, or gm plate chests. VDP items lost their edge after a repair anyways for pvp.

I suppose I don't have a strong opinion either way, but do think item repair as a whole needs a relook. Even with 120 skills, I can't remember the last time I repaired anything and didn't have the item lose durability in the effort. While this also hasn't seemed a major issue yet to most, it may as we move forward with resource intensive imbuing and creatures that literally devastate armor. I was doing a Harbringer with a character wearing a full set of imbued armor, and lost about 400 points of durability from the set as a whole due to the chinge effect - and this wasn't a melee charcater!

I think repairing in the trade window would be perfect. If we keep repair deeds, they should have some sort of penalty, like a guaranteed drop in durability of say 2-4 pts.

How would the smith or tailor get paid? You cant place the items to be repaird in a trade window and click on "confirm" as the items would go to the smith/tailor.

It would take an update of the gump. World of Warcraft has a trade window that has a no-trade area that someone can then perform enhancements on through that area. This allows the trading of stuff above in payment (including gold, which is just numeric in that game, but would still be an object in UO, so no biggie) as well as working without trading stuff in the bottom.

Of course, such a system would need to be well tested too for UO. But I think it could be done.

Back then as an archer I wore bone armor so it was all throw away. When factions came in I kept 5 suits in the bank in a bag and each set was identical with player crafted gear, weapon, bandages, pots. So I would die and run to Yew bank to get another bag of stuff like chainmail. I think there were dex penalties for different armor classes so plate was not used. No insurance...

In regard to this thread, why not just use a repair deed?

northwoodschopper's idea makes this whole thing do-able IMHO. I have one of every crafter type character and this would make my life a LOT easier!
