Well, I feel like I started to hijack an official announcement, so here's another thread to ponder thoughts in relation to its title
We know it has been legal to sell items/gold for money outside of UO for the past 11 years.
Here is why it is illegal / cheating to do the same in WHO. From its EULA:
(They should have embraced & profited from reality, and worried about serious and controllable forms of cheating in-game, rather than force their honest players to suffer while the dishonest cheat away and profit, imnsho)
I just thought I'd take this discussion elsewhere so we don't bog down the original official announcement anymore.
The main thing I would like to see is what I quoted myself saying at the top of this post
Next the thought was posed:... After following that link, I'm reminded of the nice 'banhammer' image on that page.
Maybe 16K out of several hundred thousand accounts isn't huge, but it is significant and does serve a purpose by showing some potential cheaters that they run a risk if they indulge.
A few reminders like that, perhaps monthly/bimonthly, perhaps on the auto patch screen, could also do UO some good, imho.
Like: 'XXX accounts burninated last month (banned for cheating the UO community)'
To which I replied:I wonder why gold selling is a bannable offence in War but not in UO.
& more questions began to arise...- Primarily because the creator of WHO has been steadfastly against real money transactions & UO has always allowed it.

- Surely it has worked marvelously and they have stopped people from freely trading items that others consider to have an inherent value; just as WoW has succeeded in doing, I bet...B. SELLING OF ITEMS AND OBJECTS
