Siege Perilous is the closest thing we have to a classic shard and it is, and always has been, extremely underpopulated.
SP is also tainted by AoS.

And speaking of Siege Perilous, what do we do with Siege Perilous if a classic shard is opened? Or will Siege Perilous become the classic shard? An idea I might actually support as it would mean that less resources would be wasted. If you think Siege Perilous is empty now, it is a booming metropolis compared to what it will be if a classic shard is opened. The Siege Perilous crowd would probably pick up lock stock and barrel and move en masse to a classic shard.
Here's this term again..."wasted resources"...do you realize how many "resources" have been "wasted" on not one, not two, but three useless, ugly, buggy, and unpopular clients since UO launched.

Again, it's not all about you. There are other people that pay their money...and some of them want something else.

Wasted resources = devoting a second thread to a well, mostly civilly, discussed topic when there is already a 6 page thread on the same topic.

We know how you feel, Morgana - we know how Longest Journey, and Unsatisfied, georgemarvin2001 and Llamfia - we know that at least a couple of people have shouted down any move to compromise. You're now to a point to where you are interjecting the topic in any thread possible.

And what's going to happen is you (generic you, not personal you) are going to start turning off people that support the idea in even the smallest way.

And free clue - it's not all about any one group of people - we ALL want something different. There's just no agreement on what that is.

Do you really believe that the only people that want a classic shard are the ones that actively post on this website? That's a moronic assumption.
Personal insults aside, it is probably a pretty safe bet that a disproportionate number of those are on this forum asking for the same thing over and over and over again. I'm betting there is a silent, and vast, majority of paying subscribers who actually enjoy the game of UO they are playing now. I don't think anyone imagines the game is perfect, nothing ever is, but UO is actually a pretty damned good game, just the way it is, including Trammel, and AoS.

I think they would bring back far more players by dealing with the cheating monster than they would by creating a classic shard. But you are right, neither of us have concrete numbers to back up our guesses, and I willing to admit, I could be wrong. Maybe a classic shard would bring back subscribers by the thousands, and keep them, but something tells me it wouldn't.

You can't really look at how a DAoC retro shard failed and compare it to UO. I mean a large portion people played DAoC because games like UO and AC were finished for them.

The coding should be there and if it is, I'm sure the playerbase that will flock over will pay for the server and then some. After a few months they may even need a second ;p

We might need a Classic Shard...

...but we DON'T need another Classic Shard thread. :)
