I say its time to increase the skills to 800 per character.

If you want 800 skill points... get your Imbuer up to legendary and start giving yourself extra skill items to get to 800 points. I have a character already up at 800 skill points and I am not going to tell you how or what I am wearing. :)

I say its time that we increase the skill cap level to 800. Trying to make a thrower gargoyle is very agitating to do and put in a defensive ability along with a form of healing for my gargoyle. The advantage of throwing was allowing use of parry like with bows you could use potions.

But in order to make throwing even the equal of archery requires swordsmanship in case the opponent gets close to you to reduce the penalty of the defensive measure of a melee skill. You have to also have tactics along with parry just to make it even out with archery. Requiring 200 more points already eats up 460 points. Leaving precious little when you need spell resistance as an archer/thrower to counter the the high mana costs of our specials against the mages that go around vamp spamming people in pvp.

If they wish to tie so many secondary requirements to skills that is fine. It would help alot of the lesser played cramped templates catch up to the abc archer/sampire/whammy necro combos if they considered upping the skill limit to 800.

No. I think we should go back down to 600 :/

Heh, I could run all my templates on 600 If I had to. From the necromage to tamer. :p

Without, +skill jewelry.

If a player was granted 800 skill points without having to use jewelry or other + skill items... I think that would be the day my accounts were shut down.

We would see this everywhere...

110 taming
110 lore
120 swords
120 tactics
100 ninjitsu
100 stealth
100 hiding
60 Chiv

There, 800. Natural. Then you know, add in arties and other items. so the list could really be...

115 taming - Library Tali
115 lore - Library Tali
120 swords
120 tactics
120 ninjitsu - +10 on ring and brace
120 stealth - Shadow Dancer
100 hiding
80 Chiv - +10 on ring and brace

So whats the total now? 890?

Could even use, you know archery instead of swords. And then use Hunters Headress. So theres another 20 points. 930 points if you put the 20 spare points into something else.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Up skill points? No
Lower? Id be fine with.
Leave as is? Probably the best way to go with.

You are having personal issues trying to make a brand new gimplate so the cap should be raised?

Thats just plain sad :(

No thanks.

The last thing I want to see in Ultima Online is even more "skill salads" templates...

Raising the skill CAP would allow for even more mixing up of skills which, IMHO, should never coexist on the same one template.

On the contrary, the game should to my opinion do an effort to go back to more precise roles to be role played.

That is, stick with the 720 CAP and make some skills incompatible to coexist on the same template with some other skills so as to allow more defined roles and not whatever..........

No! If anything they should remove the extra 5-20 pts for vets bringing the cap down to 700, or give everyone the +20 pts.

Indeed!

I definately think that the long timers deserve a lil something extra but I don`t think it should ever be something that gives someone an advantage over another.

Deco,fine
Mounts,fine
Tubs and other things that only (this many!) years can use, fine
20 points worth of skills other peaple can not have?! NOT FINE.

Sure,20 points sounds pretty trivial but I can assure you that I could find a real use for that 20 points on my cramped disco/peace tamer template.I`m sure others have templates you`d love to throw 20 more points at.

If we`re talking about balance in this game, this is one area that is blatently ignored.

This is as stupid an idea as raising the skill cap to 800. If you want WoW, go play WoW. UO is a sandbox game. Get over it or get the hell out. :dunce:

Nope, Nadda, 700 to 720 is enough.
Enough jewled out twinks now. Ya really want a joke of a game if you want more points.
Best thing that could happen in this game would be to take out the Skill helping jewlery. Then you'll hear them crying :sad3: &:rant2:

Sorry to resurrect but technically I just resurrected playing this game. I played during the time of 99 - 00 When skill cap was 700. I was training today and saw i was over 700. I had a hard on. So i searched stratics and came across this thread and seen its at 720. 800 would just be OP. Leave it be. The point of a skill cap is to create some sort of balance. there are some nice skills around and if you're really that ursty to have that skill make another char. You have 4 extra slots.

You forgot the important thing about 99-00 no power scrolls. 7xgm was the norm after they tweaked the monsters and skills to practicaly require you to have 120 legendary to do the same thing you could've done at gm at that time they effectively took away 100 points of a different skill from people. Not to mention the many balances that were placed to require many useful independant skills to get other skills for them even to be useful over the years. Making a 7xgm now is like 50% power of a 7xgm in the years you played.
PVP don't notice that too much because everyone is around the same skill level. If they nerfed every charcater to only be allowed 200 skill points pvp characters won't know the difference a few years down the road. Though it woul'nt be in the spirit of UO were the moto is be whoever you want do whatever you want it's your world and will turn to WOW were the moto is you stuck with who you are in a set path where we want you to go so too bad.

This horse has been beaten so much, it's merely a skeleton now.

Give it a rest. 720 is fine, it always has been, and it will continue to be.

Don't like it? Try another template.

How about no skill cap at all. Then we could all have exactly the same character. It would really balance out the game and eliminate gimp templates! Finally, there would be a true level playing field, and tactics and skill would shine through!

I couldn't agree more. Everyone would be the same. No need for hacks and cheats and still people would complain for they stink at pvm..... :p

The ability to lock skills was all that was needed. Raising the skill cap was and is, in my opinion, not necessary. To raise it further would just produce too many godlings.

Only 800 ??

Why limit a player's creativity at all ?

Let's make it an even 1,000............... wait, I want to be able to have a character that can have all skills at once so I do not need to swap skills off a soulstone.

Let's have a no limit skill cap !!!

I want to play a tamer/bard/warrior/mage/beggar/thief/necro/paladin/whatever template !!

I want to have a character than can do everything it is possible to do in the game !

/sarcasm

No thanks.

The current CAP is even too high, IMHO.

Certainly, it needs not be raised.

seeing that UO is an item game now, raising the skill cap would not matter one bit for mules, have little impact in pvp (once the novelty wears off and templates shift), but it would completely throw off pvm. but to hell with pvm, that boat sailed years ago.

hell, if the skill cap was 120 in every skill for a character, then really, it wouldn't matter much since UO is an item game nowadays. items uber alles.

Agreed

If anything, the skill cap should be lowered to 600. Tough choices should always have to be made and creatures should be harder to take down.

:fight:
I wish then I could go back to a straight swordsman and not have to deal with people who think they are good because they gimp disarm with bushido.

If I die to a player that is legitimately better at pvp than me I have no problem. It's the gimps and gankers that tick me off.

It would finally get rid of a bushido users ability to disarm. What I really wasn't is old school to come back magic crap kind of ruined my pvp. I mean whatever happened to poisoned katanas and maces destroying armor.

(also Gargoyles suck and are meant to be crafters)

Nice job re-issuing the exact same lame thread you posted not too long ago though. As I remember it was quite soundly thumped the last time out also. It is painfully obvious to everyone but you that when almost 100% of all posters are against something for about a hundred different, valid reasons that maybe it is a horrible idea best left in your sad closet?

What Connor_Graham said to popps.

That's precisely the strength of UO (over other MMORPGs based on 'classes'). Personal individual freedom, creativity and rights. Not play victim to stifling limiting dogma.
