I need to make an apology. To those who I've hurt through mistaken actions, words and deeds. Among those is David Allen Hrushka the owner of the “Genesis Archives” just East of the Luna Moongate across from the burning house.
It is with heavy heart and belated conscience that I bring you this news. And this concerns events starting of approximately seven to twelve months ago. Remember Wizzie? Many of us do as she was favored by many in LA and In Luna city. When She disappeared and nobody truly knew why and many pretended they did. Where her ICQ# never responded again. (At least for those of us who had it.) Then of course over time her houses fell one by one, until they were all gone. (Six that I had personal knowledge of.)
At this time I took it upon myself to get a second account just so I could purchase a housing spot next to Crazy Joe's Runebook Library and copy it before the original collapsed. I did this with some help from some generous folks, thru their time and effort we were able to accomplish this. (Too bad UO had to randomize the mining and logging resource locations.)
I bring her up because of what happened later. As you know some lucky individual, (unfortunately I don't know who personally I think someone from a guild, not certain enough to mention which one here) got the spot. (Luna house spot). Some time later not sure how long, perhaps a week, this person tried to resize the spot. And Immediately lost it to a scripter. This was not personally witnessed by me, but told to me second or third hand. It is my fault that I didn't keep track of who told me what. But thats how it is with gossip, you remember the dirt not the spreader.
Well as it turns out I became one of the spreaders. Worse still, I didn't try talking too, or ICQ'ing the new owner about this. At this time (to the best of my imperfect recollection) I posted on his bulletin board about this being a house stolen by a scripter. When I had done this the new owner was David Allen Hrushka of “Genesis Archives”. Worse still I did this in a cowardly fashion, I used the mage spell “incognito” to disguise my name. (The name that came up was Bradford) Naturally as you would expect, he banned me from the establishment, as is, of course, was his right to do.
And as many of you know he set up shop, rented out vendor spaces. Only like 3 of which were rented that I observed and are at this time no longer being used. They just sit there empty of product. This has most quite probably deprived the LA shard of a good vendor. As you can observe on other shards that David runs vendor houses on (of the same name) such as Atlantic, Great Lakes, Baja, Lake Superior, and Oceania. If I hadn't been so quick to judge and so foolishly quick to act, or even ... well you know about 20/20 hindsight. We would have had a great vendor Luna Lord.
Ask yourselves this, why would a successful Luna Lord resort to scripting? When he earns enough gold off of vendor rentals to purchase whatever he needs. Why risk being banned when he has the gold to buy housing spots legitimately? Logically he wouldn't, would he. Whats more how would he genuinely know who the original placer was? Again he wouldn't. Especially after so many people had got just banned and they're houses burned. He would just buy the place.
Why did I do this? I truly don't know. Sometimes we act without knowing why we act. Sometimes we know, but won't tell ourselves. I know this answer won't be satisfactory to most of you. And I understand that, I could make something up but that would be compounding the transgression. So the best I could do is tell you my tale of events as I know them.
Why did I take this long to come forward? I don't know. Tho recent life events have been making me reconsider past actions, may be a factor. Or an excuse, you decide. At any rate I finally contacted Genesis Archives about this. And of course he was quite angry by my actions. He explained to me that if I wanted to make right with him that I “confess all” that I had done and the reasons for doing so here on stratics. He would then let you folks decide whether he should even consider forgiving me or not. I already told him I can live with a lifelong ban from his house. And I can also accept the fact that he may never forgive me.
So what did I learn from this. Quite probably more than I wanted and less than was needed as with all things. Don't be so quick to judge, don't be so quick to act. And verify your information don't depend on gossip. Talk to the persons involved. And at the very least if you don't know the facts or can't find out the facts. Then don't fall for the Wizards first rule.
Wizards first rule: "People are stupid; Because people are stupid given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie rather than the truth, because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. Because people are stupid, they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident that they can, and so are all the easier to fool."
Anybody can be fooled. Boy I would like to think I've learned from this mistake. But then again its political season again. I suppose the lesson here is you can always make the wrong conclusion and get up 'caught' in gang like mentality and refuse to admit to a mistake. Many people will never admit to it. Some would prefer to be called liars as opposed to being told they're wrong. I work retail and I see that all the time. Most people (not all of course) aren't lying they're simply making mistakes. (Price check anyone). Well thats my story as I best know it. And most probably will be unsatisfactory to those who matter. But its the best I can do without it becoming troll like behavior.
