Congratulations...

What City, State? It's good to have friends on the inside... nudge nudge...

You look away and mysteriously find a 1 million gold check in your mailbox, or maybe a nice stash of imbuing gems... wink wink... :D

( wonders how long it will take to corrupt Kage )

A cop huh? *chuckles*...my brother is a rent a cop of you will but he's actually one that gets to carry a real gun so when I tell you his ego is out of control... Let me tell you what this rent a cop done.... he stops at the dollar genral store on his way home from work one evening and he discovers a lady stealing food (yeah hats right only food)... this scum takes down the poor defenseless lady and holds her there until the police arrives.

Did he do the right thing? I'm sure both he and you probably thinks he did but i think any cop or rent a cop who would take a lady to jail for probably trying to feed her young children in this current economy is a scumbag at best. Yes I called my own brother a scumbag for thinking he did something upstanding or whatever the hell he thinks.

All I'm saying is be careful and not let it change who you are.

Cheapy, if that old lady was a young boy, and he was sexually assaulting someone could you just say, "He was simply a horny young lad, trying to get his rocks off!"

No.

Laws are laws for a reason.

Breaking the law is breaking the law. It's not up to cops to pass judgement, that's what judges do (hence the term "judge"...I know, it's strange). I'm glad I don't live in your world.

Anyway, only been killed by you once but congrats Kage. Always happy to see someone get a job they really want!

I will. Point em out to me, I'll be glad to explain to them why their deadbeat parent is in the pokey. I'll also explain to them the million and one ways (OTHER than stealing it) to get free food when you can't afford it.

Hmmm...no denying that some law enforcement personnel are on a power trip, and every municipality has its share of silly laws on the books, but you are making some significant assumptions there, Cheapy: first that the woman was defenseless, and second that she was stealing food to feed hungry children. One thing appears to not be in question: that she was stealing. It is one of those baffling situations, that people in law enforcement are sort of expected to enforce the law rather than think about people's motives, and run through various hypothetical explanations before taking action when they observe laws being broken. rolleyes:

Anyway, IMO, no need to derail Kage's happy news about securing a job he wanted, into a situational ethics debate.

Congrats, Kage!

No hate but no political correctness either. I'm more of a black and white kinda person whereas you're a 1000 shades of gray type.

However, I agree with Skylark. No need to derail this happy thread:grouphug:

I guess I should have mentioned that the woman was stealing generic poptarts and koolaid in my post. So yes that lead me to believe she was trying to feed small children. And i really wasn't trying to rain on kage's celebration I was only warning him not to become a scumbag.

Our son's best friend is one of our city's finest. Last time I saw him was at our fair. Went to hug my adopted son and the tazers and gun and metal vest were all on him. :)

Not sure why they put em in the metal vests at a county fair, but so long as it kept him safer to some degree np huggin adopted son with all that metal on him. NOT a job I would want though. Congrats, becoming a policeperson is an employment only some few are cut out for.

Not really going to get into the debate here Cheapy, but the laws are the laws. . we can become arrested if we break any one of them.

I was at one time in my life IN that woman's shoes. I never stole food. I killed our pet goat to feed my kids and then I cried. We fell thru the system's cracks and the state would not even give me foodstamps nor milk for my kids.

I then posted a *novel* in the newspaper about our plight suffering with NO heat no electricity and no food in the blizzards of Wisconsin. And the law took MY car too for his dui. My babies were starving Cheapy...when the goat meat run out I killed some fish in the local creek. When the fish meat ran out and the firewood was under 5ft of snow, I wrote a letter to the editor of the paper. . asking whom is being punished, we had no heat no electric it was cut off in the dead of winter *also against Wisc. law at the time* and no food left !

Readers read it. The sheriff came bearing food. So did the police and many many other folks including the parents of the boy that was killed in that dui to help me feed my kids !

Stealing is not needed. The world is full of compassionate people. It is very hard though to swollow one's own pride and ASK for help or to go to agencies which may provide some help. . took me ages to ASK for help would rather starve than steal and yet when your babies are starving..I can fathom stealin food to feed them. But sometimes, one just has to POST A WALL OF TEXT in the editor's column and may get help only cost is ...time and a postage stamp ! :) Now YEARS later, we OWN our home, no bills and lotsa food in the pantry ! But I never forget what it was like to freeze and starve in the dark wisconsin winters utterly watchin my kids hunger killin my pet goat for food ! Yet I never stole, not even a poptart !

I'm not condoning stealing at all here, I'm only saying in my brother's situation he DID NOT have to get involved because he was not a police officer and he was off duty. He could have let that one go but he wanted to be a hero. My point is if you're gonna play the hero then why not stop a murder or a **** or some other real crime that would actually benefit someone? Why waste your heroics on a woman trying to feed a child? Well he got no pat on the back from me, that's for sure.

This just in. Police forces all across America are now able to predict all future crimes. This had previously been a stumbling block as they were forced to wait til crimes were committed and use "investigative techniques" to play hero.

In my youth I've had more than one run in with corrupt cops.. I hope you're not one of them. Do it for the right reasons, not to get ahead. You have the public's trust.

Maybe so, but I've had their own cameras turned against them for illegal search & seizure in court. Everyone should know the basics of law, it can help them out someday.

And if I ever become a billionaire, I'll want a camera in every police car.

And if I ever become a billionaire, I'll want a camera in every police car.
Labor Day Weekend last year, extra police out on the streets equals extra expense to the department in fuel costs and salary. I was targeted as a revenue generating citizen to cover their costs for the weekend. I pulled into my driveway and was getting out with a bag of groceries, a police car screaches to a halt behind my car, blocking me in ( as if I was trying to escape ). The officer hurries out of his car and yells, "Get back in your car!", as he was moving towards me with hand on hip ready to draw his gun. I casually get back into the car, "Ran a stop sign back there!" ( $325.00 fine ), "No I didn't", was all I replied. He issued me a ticket and I signed it, promising to appear in court.

My court date finally arrives, I get off of work early to make the 1pm hearing and I wait as many other trials are held, my turn finally comes.
The judge has demonstrated himself a bully while I was waiting, he had no problem slapping cuffs on people while loudly proclaiming, "Pay or Stay".

"You are being tried for running a stop sign, how do you plea?"
"Innocent."
"What?!?"
"Innocent!"
"My officer says you ran a stop sign, who do you expect me to believe, him or you?"
"Show me the video."
"You want a trial?" ( additional fines and court costs if I lose )
"Yes!"
( he calls Baliff up ) "Get officer 12345 in here, we're going to have a trial."
I knew bringing the officer in wouldnt matter, it would still be my word against his without a video, and I am innocent until PROVEN guilty.
*Five minutes later*
"Officer 12345 is off today."
"Okay, we'll reschedule for one month from today!"
* I sigh in exaspiration, knowing I'll have to get off work early again and waste more time *
"Don't sigh at me boy, I'd do the same for you if you couldn't make it."
( I was watching him issue warrants for people who couldn't make it earlier, why would I expect him to make an exception for me? )

It would take two more trips for them to drop the charges, after trying to get me to take driving school ( more money for them ) classes and me standing firm for a trial with video evidence.

Take the non-"congrats Kage" posts to a non-"congrats Kage" thread.

Edit: Or at least, if you're not congratulating him, don't get off-topic and argue.

Im a cop and I would arrest her. Feeding her family or not the store owner has to do the same with his. If people are allowed to get away with stealing from a store then it will become a major problem for that store as more and more people find out that the store wont prosecute. In the end it is my job to do such things and if I dont then ill be the one without a job. There are organizations out there to help feed, clothe, and shelter people in their times of need. I do sympathize with people when they are having a hard time and have even given a warning and not a citation in some situations where the law allows me to do so.

Are we congratulating kage for getting a job or the kind of job? I just wanna be clear.

Congrats, Kage...And I'm saying this because you got the job that you desired, not because you are now a officer, but for your accomplishment.
