Friday night, trying to get my mind off the crap going on here, I was out killing Gray Goblins for gears in the Underworld. This was on Lake Austin, in the early AM hours Friday night/Saturday morning
Suddenly, in the middle of the fight, I froze up, and after a couple minutes, I CTRL-ALT-DEL out of the classic client.
It took a couple of attempts and almost 10 minutes to log back in, and was anticipating havign to run to the fountain, rez, and try get back before my corpse decayed with the gears I'd gotten so far.
INSTEAD....
I found myself at the Royal City Moongate, HIDDEN (not one of my skills, not even with magic), alive and well.
These are the exact conditions that happened in the early years of UO, called "telestorming" when something goes horribly wrong, and a character locks up (usually due to things like an invasion causing server lag so bad that players get 1 tick of movement every couple minutes). The machine, to try to femedy the situation, starts randomly teleporting people and their pets to other, non-invaded, guard zones, hidden, until they reconnect, or by some miracle the client resyncs for the new location without a disconnect.
The last time this happened to me was in the Early days of AoS, when there was an event in LA's Trammel Trinsic that had HUNDREDS of demonic forces, and nearly every active player on the shard (and substantial numbers from other shards) all locking up on Trinsic Paladin Isle. That was back when pet ghosts didn't log out with you, or lose loyalty, and I misplaced my dead giant beetle when I was telestormed as a ghost for SIX MONTHS before a guildmate found it sitting on Cove Mountain (I got telestormed there first, then to another location after attempting to recover my corpse, and had no idea the beetle had gone with me, maintaining its distance we had in Trinsic, on the first telestorm).
But, almost certainly being the only person in the Underworld at that hour, with the exception of those possibly in Navrey (And no one else showed up, unless they reconnected and left before I did, as I sat there an hour, talking about the weird event with other players that arrived through the moongate to get some chests unlocked).
Was there some sort of server glitch that night that resulted in an emergency relocation?
