To the Royal Britannian Guard,

I am sick and tired of these blasted peasants playing at equality and marching in the streets.
I awoke this evening after my night cap to find one of these so called angry rioters in
my Lord's house trying to burn the place down!

As the representative of one of the noble houses of New Magincia,
who have a long familial tradition within the city and hereditary claim
to the lands here I demand that action be taken to quell these criminals.

Imprison them, Flog them, hell... throw them into the bay with stones in
their boots I don't care. But get them off our island!

Adolphus Wilhiem, Steward of a Magincian Noble House

OOC: Sadly I have to add a note to this due to the replies. This is not a complaint, just my characters reaction to the plight in New Magincia. I love the flavor this is adding to the game.

That is too funny!

I really hope this riot madness will end soon.
They should not leave it for more than a few weeks, a month tops.
Then switch to the next fase of the arc, where we can make use of this new loyalty.

I'm looking forward to lining up people against the wall who aren't loyal to my city and using them for archery practice :pirate:

Skara Brae maybe the most spiritual city in Britannia, but it will take on a new meaning when the rangers and fishermen start creating more and more ghosts from the bodies of those who oppose our fair city.

I think they said this rubbish would go till September.

I happened upon red spawn tonight... and no shock, they were extremly powerful and horridly slow to kill. 500 gold-ish each, no rewards. Very pointless. Why bother is the question?

Best anyone in Mag can do is just lock the house up.

They said the whole story arc will go till September for the 15th anniv.
I really hope the arc is more than just this hide-and-seek phase.
So I hope the next phase of the arc will be more entertaining.

The reds are damn slow to kill, guess a gd would do better. But the point is to bring them to 5% health and then use a rope on them to subdue. I hope this gives more fame.

I can't help but find this very appropriate and funny.
Skara Brae was literally a ghost town in Ultima 7.
You're clearly taking steps to the right direction.

I have oft-noticed that UO players oft-complain that things are too safe. Yet I have also oft-noticed that UO players oft-complain when a scenario interferes with their other activities.

To which I reply: Sometimes broader events are disruptive of our daily lives. Invasions are disruptive; sometimes the town we like to bank or stable in is invaded.

In this case it is civil unrest. (Thus far.) And, like invasions, civil unrest is disruptive.

Keep in mind that we have also seen the appearance of new monsters in the Blood Dungeon, and have seen indirect evidence that Exodus may have woken up in Ilshenar.

So my bet is that this scenario will not consist solely of civil unrest.

This is a fantasy game. Fantasy is not a nice genre of fiction. There's blood. A lot of it. And fire. Frankly, it seems like they are drawing more inspiration from G.R.R. Martin than from J.R.R. Tolkien in this one. That means we're potentially headed to a dark place.

Is that really so bad a thing, assuming the cause isn't entirely lost? Even Bilbo and Aragorn had a rough ride, to say nothing of, say, Arya Stark.

Faced with civil unrest your characters can choose to try and ignore/avoid it, can try to help the underlying causes, or can merely kill the NPCs who interfere most with your everyday lives and just take the hit.

But to call the scenario "insulting" or "rubbish" is just weird to me.

Some people just don't want to be happy.

They want to sit in their houses and complain.
They want to stock their vendors and complain.
They want to hoard their gold and complain.
They want to complain and then complain some more.

They want to sit on Uhall and complain instead of play the game. Complaining IS their game.

You can't make people like that happy no matter what you do. It is sad.

This thread is a good example of someone doing something fun and amusing and the same people whining and complaining and twisting it to meet with their own complaints and malformed view of how things should be.

Personally I am enjoying this, a lot. My character finding rioters in his house is an amazing piece of flavor.

I have loved every second of this so far and look forward to more.

If you don't like it and want to play with your vendor mall all day instead of with other people or actually interact with the game world, then stay in Luna. That is what it is there for.

Jeez. Some people. :wall:

Been fun for me too, a nice twist on the traditional "evil force invades."

Granted, given the goings on in Ilshenar, I'm betting we'll have a more-traditional fantasy plot soon! Which is cool tll.

But until then this is a nice, interesting twist.

Quick Edit: I did notice and appreciated that your complaining was in-character and was rolling with the scenario, not complaining about it per se. :)

Lol, nice. I would be rising up against those peasants too if they tried to burn down my house. Lucky for me I don't live within the city limits. May you show those peasants no mercy!

Pixie, to you this event might be rubbish, but to people who bemoan the fact that only fighting characters can take part in events it is an opportunity for them to be involved. Perhaps you could find it in your heart to step back a little and consider the event from the point of view of someone who plays differently to you. Allow for the fact that the developers are trying to cater for multiple playstyles, giving them a role to play in the unfolding story arc.

Oh, I've grumbled a few times about the angry protesters and have certainly arrested my share of rioters, but over all I have to say I'm still enjoying the new developments and am looking forward to seeing what will come next. There should be many interesting surprises in store between now and September. :)
