Hybrid characters in NL? How?

If you choose the quest paths, how do you make a hybrid archer/tamer or other hybrid chars? New ruleset, not used to that,but fun. Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm doing my mage/tamer/bard template. I finished my all mage skills at 100, then selected Animal Taming path. And then unlock (10k gold) Discordance skill in Britain

You must first complete one path, ending with the orc champ for any character other than a crafter, after that other skills are available through advanced training npcs.

I'm far from experienced on that shard but I do not think you can have a customized "hybrid" template outside of a predefined skill set. Example is that I wanted to have GM magery on my crafter to help gather resources (leather is kind of a chore to gather) and I haven't been able to do so. When I asked in chat nobody knew and when I asked how crafters were expected to gather leather or even just recall people said they got around by using recall scrolls.

Like I said, I've only played the shard for a few days so maybe I'm missing something but from what I've gathered the templates have only limited customization available.

They made classes. You can choose from what is available to that class. Crafters can't get magery. My mage can't get tailoring.

Has to do with them wanting use to interact with each other in this multi-player game. Crazy.

I found you use lots more cloth than leather. You can grow flax and cotton, so designed that way.

There's only one type of leather. Can kill all the actual animals and skin them for leather. Most leather on a relatively easy mob is from Polar bears. (Hundreds on Ice) I could kill them with 80 swords skill.

Kyronix said we should play together. I can kill Polar bears with my pets. A crafter can skin them if we are partied or they wait a min.

After a few hours your resource bag will be full of everything.

Mage tamer has 100 extra points for another skill. Resist prob best.

An archer with barding is very powerful once you get the repeater that does 50% fire damage. Just need discord.

Crafter is a mule just as in UO. You need for repairs and some BOD rewards. Otherwise you can be nice and make BODs for the congalerium.

Needless to say I tried testing the divergent path was ridiculed and ignored now people are shocked it's messed up??

Only you think it is. Players are doing it every day on NL.

This thread is not about something not working, its a thread about someone asking what they can add to a template.

Archer tamer would start as a warrior. Do those quests to100. Change swords to Archery so you wont waste arrows during the skill process. (The skill in swords will convert to archery) You can change those skills once a week.

Another archery template is a Rogue. You would choose that in Occlo. I do not know what their skills are.

Then go to a recruiter at a stable and add Taming skills. (I do not know what skills you will have to lose, but the guy at the Zoo will tell you before you commit.)

I have seen a lot of warrior tamers in NL. Most are swords.

I understand the premise of trying to force interaction through templates but not allowing a crafter to have magery (having swords/etc instead) is a bit too restrictive IMO.

As a crafter, I recall from town to town (or resource places) and at times I run into mobs where I can't really even heal myself (yet I have a fighting ability). I'm not saying we need the ability to have the combo's we have on Prod like a parry mage but I think allowing for magery instead of a combat skill on a crafter is far from game-breaking.

There are 4 mountains outside trinsic that have plenty of ore. The big one has no harmful mobs unless you use a garg pickaxe.

As for town recall, gates are in the towns in NL. Also you will be hard pressed to find an NPC that can be used to bribe in other towns. Which sux.

You can only mark runes outside of towns where an obelisk exists. So no recalling to gather spots. You can not mark a rune in shops.

If you do want to use a book for recalls.

Change is difficult.

Once again you are missing the point.

UO has been a "sand-box" for 27 years where we have been able to customize our own gameplay based on what we find enjoyable or what we think best (you of all people claim this often; you do not make the most effective templates but rather ones you enjoy). For veterans to suddenly be confined to a very finite way of doing things is the exact opposite of UO; I have yet to see how NL is supposed to bring a new audience so it's really only veterans currently playing.

It really comes down to playing efficiently and confining templates to a pre-set list of skills is only as efficient as the Dev team will allow it to be. Sure you can go run around Dagger Isle and kill polar bears one by one with your 50 dex and GM weapon skill.... OR you can lay down 2 blade spirits and lure everything into the buzz saw. For someone like you who seems to have ample time to waste grinding something like this might not matter but for people that have limited time and want to make the most of their time by being efficient, it's a huge difference.

It's very clear to me just based on what's available so far that the Dev team wants to limit the progression of things to drag out a full season. One way they are doing that is limiting the power people have (ie nothing is better than Might or Guarding right now). The other way is making templates predefined so that someone can't make a super efficient crafter/gatherer that can blow through BODs. That's their prerogative but there is no need to try to act like people who disagree are adverse to change.

Good NL game description. You should post it as such. It is not UO.

Look at my posts about it from years ago. My only complaint was, a year is too long!

Season should be 3 months. Maybe they will look at that.
