How's the community like at Catskills?

Hi fellow UOers,

as you can see, Im from LA. Been there almost from the start when the shard opened. However, in my years there, I might as well play a single-player game instead of a MMORPG.

The thing is, apart from LA being a very sparsely populated shard, Im located at +12 hrs from most in the US, thus being online at your dawns on weekdays. The idea of cross-sharding finally dawned on me on support from my old guild GM. And so, over the weekend, I created new chars in Atlantic, Pacific, Lake Superior, Great Lakes, as well as, Catskills and popped by Luna Bank.

My first reaction when I saw the crowd at Luna was :"Is there an event going on now?" I had actually experienced 1-sec lags from the sheer number of people that are online there. Such thing has only happened a grand total of TWICE to me in LA during my years there, when I managed to participate in events. If this kind of playerbase is the norm for you guys on more populated shards, then I want a part of it.

Hence, before my big move(currently looking at Catskills, cos frankly, it lags less for me), can I have a sensing from Catskillians(sp) about the shard you guys play in? What about the housing situation? In LA, you can place keeps all over the place. A big factor is the availability of keep-size plots I can own to move my years of junk over.

Looking forward to your inputs! :)

Hello Red Star and welcome. Unfortunately, I can't really tell you about housing space. I have three houses and hubby refuses to sanction my pack rat tendancies by agreeing to opening yet another account. LOL

As far as community goes, I don't know that you'd find a better one anywhere around. Catskills is pretty active in all areas of the game. There are plenty of player run events going on including the Zoo Spawn Nights, Doom Hunts, Peerless Runs, etc. There's generally a group at Mel and they are usually pretty good at taking people along, or at least they used to be. These are probably the best way to get a feel for things here. Get to know the people and see what you think.

I certainly don't think you'll find a more helpful group on any other shard. Usually a quick post with the help you need will get you set up in no time.

My best advice would probably be to build a bit of a character here and check it out. If you need help getting set up with a starting suit or whatever, holler at me or any of the other players and we'll be more than happy to lend a hand. My storage situation would probably thank you for taking some things off my hands. LOL

Anyway, look around, give us a hollar if you need something and welcome again to Catskills. Look forward to seeing you out and about.

There's open land for housing to be had, with just a bit of searching. Although, I've yet to run across a keep sized spot. That's not to say it's impossible to find one.

As for community, I've yet to run across another shard that's as helpful and friendly as Catskills.

As Anne suggested, give us a try, and if you need anything don't hesitate to ask.

I know of a spot big enough to house an 18X18 in Trammel. PM me if you wish me to tell you where.

I don't think you will be lucky enough to find any keep spots. But there are plenty of 18x18's to be had. Keeps still go for 40-50mill on this shard. The people are nice for the most part. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I came back on Satuday and found a spot for my 18x18 a few hours after setting up my hotkeys. Took some time searching, but I love my new spot.
