Checking the history and time-line of Maginica…

Rebuilding Maginica… Is it another LIE? OR is it the most overdue event in UO history that has finally come to pass?

So… lets see.

The destruction of Maginica was thanks to an invasion. These giant monsters would take so much damage and then blow up… dislodging everything from plants to walls and almost everything else. That’s where most of our odd-ball rubble came from… and the palm trees I love so much. Scripters made out more like bandits on our shard, ruining it for most. I remember that clearly. Such a mess.

So the invasion was over… the island was a super-duper-mess ever since.

They had some kind of crazy void in Moonglow, that led to a parallel dimension… that was said to somehow have some kind of connection to Maginica. It didn’t.

Then… there was yet another invasion force that gave us the dread mares… and hung around until no one cared anymore. It seamed to have zero connection to Maginica.

Then… a year… more, less… I don’t know… they had all these hooded ghosts running Maginica. THIS, they said, was the start of the rebuilding. What it gave us was threads. This went on for many-many months… until people didn’t care anymore. And then, a new NPC was placed near the old Maginica moongate that took these threads and traded them for yet more rubble. Rebuilding nothing.

Ok… that was another lie. Then 3 more NPCs appeared taking an old robe and more threads from Maginica and making very minor interesting robes.

Now the Bane. They remove the moongate at Maginica and infest the lands with this horrible spawn that now invades all cities, yet again… camped outside the Spirituality Moongate and also calls Maginica home.

Someplace in-between these events… there was a big spring cleaning event that was also rumored to be part of the Maginica rebuilding and that was also a lie. Frankly, it was GREAT… lots of new and wonderful rare items, but had nothing to do with Maginica other then 1 of the type of items that could be traded in was the rubble from the destruction of the city. All the loose garbage, dust, wall rubble, and ordinary looking plants… clogging up storage went right into that.

We have to be talking about at least 5 years. Anyone know the exact date this all started?

I mean… I really can get behind the idea of remodeling old and otherwise unused areas… but there should be a 3 month plan, before the staff looses interest… before it becomes a scar on our game. They still haven't made New Haven all nice and shiny new. I believe they were rebuilding it in phases… and then just lost interest. It needs a lot more polish. So, staffers… please don’t ruin our towns. Ruin Luna. That was the worst idea ever and it needs to go. :mf_prop:

I, for one, won't be complaining about the number of events and invasions we've had since '06. There have been a lot of developments in the game during this span of time. KR came and went. The planning for Stygian Abyss certainly took some time.

No, I can't complain much. Having a Dread in the stable that I didn't buy, fantastic. Having Conjuror's trinkets and grimoires I didn't have to buy either. But those are only souvenirs, reminders, of all the enjoyable hours I spent in graveyards :fight: or cruising the streets of Sosaria thumping the latest invaders.

Honestly, EP, those of us who remember Magincia as it was are probably in the minority now.

only thing about magincia i remember was, it being the worst moongate to come through due to all the gators, snakes, monbats and such that were waiting for you to pop out. the rest of the town was kinda run of the mill set-up since its destruction ive been rather happy, i thnk they should destroy more towns.

I'm probably wrong but I never heard that any of those events were for the rebuilding of Magnicia specifically..
The Spring Cleaning especially I'm pretty sure had nothing to do with rebuilding and was never said to have anything to do with rebuilding.

Everything but Spring Cleaning was various lines of the story arcs.. If they get rid of the monsters/invasions etc too soon, people complain they didn't have a chance to take part.. If they leave it for extended time other people complain the arc has slowed. They can't possibly win.

The only downside I really saw to what happened to Magnicia was for the faction located there and the roleplayers located there.
Yes, it should have been done sooner but I don't really see the big deal. I guess you used the city often so it did greatly effect you.

...'06...
2006? Seams like longer. :) Trust me... I'm not putting down events... just this whole ruining a town for all these years. Is 5-6 years reasonable to have a broken area of the game world? I don’t think so. Like I said in my post, I’m all for a little remodeling lesser used areas, but they should have a 3 month plan or just not bother with it at all. The staff ruined Haven with no storyline what-so-ever, then it was rebuilt just as quickly. That wasn’t so bad. However, we were talking about the totally unreasonable amount of time they had Yew turned into a swamp… and still… they ended up fixing it in a fraction of the time Maginica has been a mess.

Yes, I’m totally with you that the vets are growing smaller in numbers that remember the city as it was vs. now. However, for the record… I’d easy call SA a total failure and a ploy just to get more money out of us then a success. At least with ML we saw a return of a lot of retired vets, along with a lot of fun elf stuff. SA… they didn’t even bother naming the house tiles, to show how dedicated they are.

It's like… why did we have to have Malas when they could have easily made T2A house friendly? It's not about the logic, it's about the money. Now, I think they are getting a little wise to logic and wasted server space. The best parts of SA were in the system a long time and we never had access to them. The carpets being a prime example. They predate even my time in UO. All the best items… are old art, like the gravestones and a lot of the items from that primeval lich spawn. At least with the Seas… they kept it in the known world, for the most part.

I honestly hope this latest “story” about rebuilding Maginica is totally true. Make a city that people want to use. Get these lazy newer players out of the Lagtown bank somehow. Frankly, I could never imagine if I started UO like that. I sure wouldn’t be here 10 years later.
