People actually play KR?!?

I do too.
I did not play 3D much after we were granted 2D access to Ilshenar.

I was a 3D fan, .....so 90% of the time I'm in KR. 2D graphics are so, I dunno....let's put it this way, when 3D went kaput, I looked at my horse and saw fisher-price pets.

No, 2D's seriously old.....not as old as me, but you get my drift.

point was that a player has to add them in themselves,

I am not saying being able to create your own ui is a bad thing, its not.

But...You keep throwing it out there that commas are in the KR client. And that is just not true. If you just download the basic KR client from EAMythic, they are not there. You the player have to add them in (if you know how to do it) or trust someone (like you) that has done it.

Like I have said before, I am not opposed to the KR client. It was getting better and I was getting used to it. I just no longer patches for me. I have tried re-downloading (with several different download managers) it keeps corrupting even the new link from the recent FoF or HoC. And no, I am not running vista.

So to me, I can not really help with bug reports as I can not get into KR. I have stopped trying. I pay to play the game, not to be a EAMythic QA/Bug tester. I did not mind reporting errors in KR, that at least was one feature I liked (instant bug report in the client). There are syill way too many problems with KR. I realize that posters here are not the majority of UO players in game. But if so many posters here have troubles with KR (running/patching/crashing), not talking about how things look because that is subjective. How many people who are not aware of stratics are having similar problems. How many did these problems made new/returning players quit? We have no idea. What damage has been done to prospective player (new/returning) perceptions by letting the "future" of UO langish for over a year now in perpetual beta status?

Xena's UO Utilities
- UO Curse Tool
- UO Macro Edit
- UO Magic Tool
- UO Time
- UO Home Owner
- UO Rudder
- UO Tamer

These are add-ons listed on Stratics. According to Jeremy, they are illegal to use. Now in stratics forums we are being encouraged by a poster to add content to the game that he created. Once I know from an official source that what you want me to download and add to KR is sanctioned by EA I might consider it. However I dont even use UOA. I really wish EA would just fix what needs to be fixed so I can use KR. Call me crazy; but, I would just like fixes to come from the official source.

Right now, I don't use it because every single time I try to set up hot keys and log out and back in - they disappear. That's just no fun at all.

KR UI mods are player-created UO mods that are added to the client itself. They are not external programs like the ones you listed and are limited by the XML functions available to the client.

XML/LUA client models are created to be customizable.

The devs have greenlighted and even given us the documentation on tweaking the KR user interface.

I mean seriously i don't think the number is that high and if EA would realize that they would just abandon work on KR and add more content to 2d

[/ QUOTE ]

This is exactly why the last event was "optimized for 2D" as Draconi indicated.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it was optimized for 2D because there are one or two people left on the dev team that do an awful lot of the actual work and either don't understand, or don't like, KR.

EDIT: Regardless... 2 steps forward (KR) or 2 steps back (2D).... there can only be one client. It is farcical how half assed the game is right now.

I use KR. I like KR better. That being said, KR blows performance wise as is and they are not dedicating enough man hours to it. If I had to (UO pulls KR plug) I would go back to the other client and play it.

Side note: I vote to refer to all UO gamestoppers as KRashing. 2Ders can blame it on KR and KR can blame it on KR.

If that's the case I'd like to see that "officially" green lighted by a dev and/or Jeremy here on stratics.

You say: The devs have greenlighted and even given us the documentation on tweaking the KR user interface.

Where do I get the documentation? Is this "out there" for anyone to use? Just curious.

I'll be sticking with using official EA product or in the case of KR - not. When EA gives me a patch to repair what needs repairing in KR - I'll use it.

To add to the voice, yes, play KR. Exclusively, in fact.

Ive read tons of posts on dissenting views, but, how many of those are actually from peeps who have tried KR out without being biased against it in the first place? Mindset is a powerful force and Im afraid much of the views expressed against KR is unfair.

When KR first appeared, I actually quit UO, stopped completely, for 2 months, dreading it and the eventual direction UO is going(to implement KR totally eventually. Well, at least it was that direction then). Then, one fine weekend which I know is totally free of RL stuff, I finally got the courage to install and patch KR. Really spent the weekend reading up on the Stratics KR Forum and the possibilities, applying the knowledge, and tweaked the nine heavens outta this "semi"-finished product. When I finally got an inkling of a working setup for my tamer, I kept going to make it finer and now, Ive a complete personalized setups for all my chars. Never looked back since.

I sincerely hope this would inspire anyone who read this out there to just keep an openmind and try KR out just for the heck of it. I know some of you have been in 2D for years and years. Why not try out a familiar game with a fresh perspective? Who knows, u might come to like it ^^. And when the critical mass is reached, the final transition to a "fully-certified" KR may come to fruition.

I played 3D exclusively. I WANT KR to work!! I WANT to use it. I cannot get hot keys to stay - they disappear each time I log out.

That's a game stopper for me. Until that's fixed I'll muddle about in 2D - and I REALLY hate the containers in 2D

When KR was first announced and we got the first info and screenshots from it I was excited. I loved the fact that the devs would only have one single client to keep updated, it was the perfect win/win situation. However KR didn't turn out to be such a winner. Even diehard KR fans usually HAVE to use 2D for certain thisng because they STILL aren't available, or possible in KR.

If the devs want to make good their original promise, they have to devote all resources available to get KR to a 100% finished state, everything that was in BOTH the old clients need to be available in KR. And EVERYTHING needs to be selectable in the options so people can play UO their way, I don't want KR graphics, or the KR UI or anything KR I want 2D, if they let me play 2D in the KR client, I would. If the old 3D people had their resizable containers and everything else they are missing, the too would play KR.
That way EA would finally have only a single client to work with, and could devote their resources to fixing everything that's broken in the game. Something they should have done BEFORE wasting time and money on KR.

KR almost exclusivly, except for skilling things like cartography, where the UOA macros (use by type and sell) help sooo much.
I would probably quit in an instant, if KR was discontinued, because I came back only after they released it

I do, and have since it was first available... I forget when that is though because I'm not 21 anymore.

Why do you care how many people play KR if you're playing 2d? If they abandon KR and just work on 2d, I'll quit and so will some of my friends who only use KR or the old 3D client. The last thing you should want is less people playing this game, no matter what client they use. I guarantee if you played with me you wouldn't know what client I was on unless you asked... so why not just PLAY and stop worrying about it?

By the way, the latest event was optimized for 2D, so it seems like if anything, they have abandoned ME and MY client and are continuing to work on YOURS.

tried it. wont play it. its ugly. its sluggish. its interface is ********. the only thing its good for is crafting. KR is 3D reworked ...and it sucks just as hard.
if EA doesnt wake up and see the majority cant stand KR, they will all be finding new jobs w/in 5 yrs.

The interface is ********??? You have clearly not taken the time to learn HOW to USE the KR interface if that is your opinion of it. I quit reading after you said the majority can't stand KR. I would be willing to be that most of the people who can't stand it are just like you... they *won't* stand it. There's a difference, and hopefully EA will continue with their move to bring this game a little closer to the 21st century for those of us who have decent computers and larger monitors and wish to play something that doesn't look like Leisure Suit Larry with armor and trolls.

As far as I know you still can't properly do house customization in KR - even if you manage to do the design, you can't commit it without switching to 2D. That alone is a deal breaker for some of us, and considering the role custom housing has played in UO, it is a bit mind boggling that over 6 months after it was officially listed as a production client, that this is still the case.

That was fixed a long time ago. I only play KR and I place, customize, and sell houses all of the time. If that's your deal breaker, then you ought to try it again.

Sadly that bug has not been fixed. I was working on a house in KR last week. Went to place it and I had orange tiles. I reworked it, still had orange tiles. Went into 2D and everything was fine.

Now, I love KR, it's the only reason I came back to UO. I'd end up leaving again if I had to play the 2D client. The graphics are horrible, it feels laggier, and it's just plain out-dated.

It basically comes down to UO won't be drawing in may new subscribers with the 2D client. There's too much eye candy out there, and UO 2D just isn't it.

WIth the Darkfall (i think that's the new skill based game) on the horizon, they really need to get KR polished.

You are right. KR is ultimately the better product. The problem is, is that it is the metric system. If you are an American you may know of the metric system. You may know it as the better product that is impossible to implement, or you may just know it as the crazy way of measuring things.

In fact, the metric system is the better product. So why the American reluctance? Pigheaded ignorance is all one can think of. Planes might fall out of the sky like when Y2K came last year. You just never know.

So KR to many 2D-types is the metric system. Spooky and unknown. "I would have to click here now... UH OH... what if my horse stops working then? UH OH!!"

I tried KR it takes too many Geek skills to get it to work. It does not work on my system I'm pretty sure it because of the duel monitors I run. but I'm not going to sit for hours and try to get it to run. That is EA job not mine.

I for one, play Kingdom Reborn 100% of the time. While I still have 2D/3D installed, I only play them when I wish to compare something, otherwise its always KR. It plays better, it works better, looks better and I like it more.

Now, if only I wouldn't get flamed for saying so!

Sho' 'nuff on EA having to do their jobs, BUT.... I am not a geek. I am cool and hip. Besides that, Mother tells me I'm handsome.

I want dual monitors someday and KR better damn well work when I get that second one.

I don't have that issue so maybe it's the way you customize houses... something is "fixed" in KR that shouldn't BE in 2D. Just because you can do something in 2D and can't in KR doesn't mean it's a bug

I only use 2d for vendor management. KR simply needs a few more tweaks.

Devs please sharpen the graphics further. Fix backpack items from disappearing in free-form mode. And fix the item counting feature please. Thank you Devs.

Also thank you for the housing fixes.

I did play KR a while but stopped again. I think this new big backpacks was the reason. I like the chests, the barrels and some other containers but I want to resize them, they are far to large.
There are other thing, like uoam not working with KR and the fact that I have hard getting use to a new interface.
I may try again later.

I play KR almost exclusively; so does my husband and the remaining people in my guild. Only when I need to stock a vendor or something similar do I even load up 2D, and then for as little as possible. I just can't look at 2D anymore, it's so jarring to the eyes on a big shiny monitor, and KR has so many of the basic interface features I've come to expect from, well, every game from the last dozen years.

Edit - I see reading over the thread I wasn't alone in using 3D either. Early adopters, all of us. UO is iconic, and I'll always look back on 1997 with way more fondness than it probably deserved... but I don't want my games to still look like like that. Too old, too jaded, and 2D holds back what little potential hasn't been wasted already by EA in UO.

I'll put in my 2 cents... considering I have a website devoted to a portion of KR users...

I'm willing to bet that the # oh KR users is much bigger the the # of users who use custom mods... and If I base any information on site statistics and emails, I can tell you that I have a minimum of 2000+ users who check the new mods weekly, 100+ new visitors daily, and 1000 new bookmarks monthly.
