How do you get a ship's pilot to follow the pins on the world map?

I click the map in the hold, place pins on it, double-click it and drop the map on the pilot, who says "A map!" and then merrily keeps going the origonal direction until hitting something.

What are the proper steps to get the pilot to follow a map?

After dropping map on pilot.. say.. "Start"
He will take off..

if you want to go to a certain wayppoint marked on the map say "Single then the # here" for example if there were 3 waypoints and you wanted to go to waypoint #2 say "single 2" without all the qoutes..

Also, if you get stopped by hitting an impenetrable server line, or an immovable object (like a dolphin), once you're past the obstacle, say continue

Note, this isnt working right on the EC, at least for some people so if thats what your using you might also have problems. It has been reported on the bugs thread thats stickied.

Yeah and good luck actually getting from point A to B without having to tweak the course every 5 minutes, since there's all kinds of teeny islands, sandbars and shoals scattered all over, and the map is the size of the address space on a Rebate Coupon.

It's not.
I plotted a course from Trinsic to the Emporium last night, and managed to hit pretty much everything it's possible to hit on the route... Including the serpent pillar, which I can't even find when I'm looking for it!

maybe practice improves your plotting, I plotted from Brit to Skara and only ran into dolphins, water eles and a couple of pirates. That's without going over the world edge.
