How do I play UO now I have an Imac?

No you do.

You just need a copy of windows running in bootcamp. Not that big of a deal- works fine. (and, as a bonus, this allows you to run all windows software)

Like Zooithion said, Boot Camp is one option. I find it to be the best option, as you'll get full performance out of Windows. Boot Camp itself is free and comes with OS X, Leopard or later, but you will also need a copy of Windows to install. Basically, Boot Camp allows you to dual-boot your machine between OS X and Windows. After it and Windows are installed, you will hold down the Alt key when booting up, and that will give you a menu to choose to run OS X or Windows (and you'd choose Windows to play UO).

Here's the installation guide and support documentation for Boot Camp:
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

I personally did not have luck using VMWare (as phantus suggested) or Parallels (another virtual machine tool). Those apps allow you to run Windows from within OS X. My problem with both was that the virtual network interface card was too laggy, and UO was very stuttery over that connection. Windows running as a virtual machine isn't granted direct access to your hardware, and that can slow things down. The network connection was much too slow for my taste through a VM. Dual-booting, however, allows Windows to work directly with your hardware, eliminating the virtual machine software layer (and thus, the lag).

Good luck! :)

ive been running bootcamp ans winxp as a partition for quite awhile.
i have to say it is the most stable way ive seen to play the game.
run bootcamp,create partion,install windows(take a nap during this),
get all your littles things worked out.
install SA,run the patch (do this right before you go to bed, it'll be awhile)

I've heard some strange requests in my time, but how to play the game through the medium of a hair removal cream, is simply beyond my comprehension! :D

Bioware should hire some interns to make a UO client for Linux, Mac OS, iPhone and Windows Phone 7. Bioware gets someone to make different platform versions of their client for free, interns get immortalised as heroes forever :D

I remember in the late '90s (I think), one of the programmers for Origin had released the UO client for Linux in his spare time. I wasn't very experienced back then, but I managed to get it running... and it ran great! Better than in Windows, in fact.

Up until recently EC UO ran great in Crossover Games. I can't play the CC anymore. SA broke EC compatibility and I haven't really messed around with it. Kind of on a UO vacation right now.

I might have to see if I can get it running in Crossover or Wine again. I won't install Windows on my Mac and I can still do a good amount of gaming without it (keeps my productivity levels up to not have 100 games installed too!).

UO, DDO, LOTRO, EVE, WOW, EQ-MAC, WAR, COX and more all work on a Mac either natively or in Crossover. That's plenty of options for me. I might consider installing Windows for SWTOR. Might.

Overall, I love my Mac. I need it for editing (Final Cut Pro) and use it for design (Adobe Creative Suite). A PC couldn't do both of those things unless I went to crappy Premiere or too-expensive AVID for editing. FCP is fab. I can still game and I have never considered going back to PC. But they both have their good and bad points. No need to insult the other camp. Just be happy there is competition... after all, it's what pushes innovation!

Welcome to the Mac club! :)
Cal, if you're in the Mac club too... you should really figure out how to get at least a Cider port of the EC. They did it for WAR, after all. Native would be better, but I know that's probably next to impossible!

DarWine WineBottler combo FTW!!!
This is TOTALLY the way to go esp. if you don't know how to do it yourself using Macports or some such stuff (too many complacated steps involved)
DarWine is like an regular app that D/L and drop into your app file and works super smooth.
After putting in my pc UOSE disk(in my mac) it booted up normal, very easy now I have the auto patch and getting all the patches :thumbup1:
Thanks to all!!
Ya Cal, Imac is really:thumbup1:for me too!

I thought everything was going smooth, however after I patched everything, the "ok" button wouldn't work, in order to log-in.
I just see the auto patch page (also no graphics or text on the auto patch page)

I may have to do this, which I found on some forum:

First, install DarWine in your Applications folder by dragging and dropping it.

Do know that, however, DarWine requieres X11 to work. Like a lot of people, myself among 'em, you might not have installed it upon installing OSX the first time around. Downloading it is easy, but it might say you have an earlier version of it, and won't let you install X11. However, you probably do not have X11 even though it says that, and your program won't work. Well, insert your OS X install disk 1, and scroll down the window, revealing a package with yellow cubes named something like "optional Installs". Run it, and just click X11 from the list. It won't reinstall Os X, it's perfectly safe.

It now time to install UO. Do so by first running WineHelper, then by opening the setup.

Last but not least, you might need to dump in some files for playing on a server. The thing is, your virtual c_drive is hidden, it's in a folder named .wine, on the user's main folder.

Here's how to make it appear. First run Terminal, which should be in the Utility folder, in your Application directories. Enter the following:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

killall Finder

Now, go search that folder, copy your server's files, and hide 'em all again with these:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

killall Finder

I think i need to find that server file.

Anyone can think of what else to do?

Wine never worked for me and I never tried Parralels but Crossover games works great with 2d as long as your machine has great memory. I have heard it works beautifully with Bootcamp and that's what I am planning to run under when I get my new iMac next summer.
Cal, if you really do play on a Mac, please please please get EA or do something to have the game converted for Mac computers as well. It would be so amazing.
