I don´t see any difference to my human miner. Tested about 5000 ores (and the associated gems) with both.
I'm really glad they gave us so many of those race change tokens. Unless things change radically with the gargoyles having at least comparable clothing and armor, I'm going back to being an elf.
I'm told, though I haven't tried it, taking the elf or human heritabe quests will change your gargoyle character back.
I can confirm this Petra I took a character from elf to gargoyle with the race change token then the next day I changed him to human. (I was unhappy with the armor failings for a gargoyle)
+5 mining should be imbueable onto garg earrings in that case. Or onto a kilt.
