How am I to...?

Do treasure maps when UO automap is no more & UO cartographer is also now gone.... unless someone has a working link.

I have tried now for the last hour to find one.

Seriously? How is a T-hunter supposed to find the the locations to these new random spots when there is no operating resource for a decent map in the year 2011?

What is your mining at? If you're within a certain radius it should tell you if you're close. Also the higher your mining is the bigger the radius will be.

What you can also do is make local maps while you're going around to help you find it better.

I have a t-hunter and no problem finding treasure spots. Of course this doesn't imply that the system is any good by itself but means that there is a way to use it.

I use the enanched client, i don't know if the integrated map system is the same for the classic one.

The first thing i did was to raise mining to 100. Withouth that i couldn't find water in the sea.

The the "procedure" is very simple: I decode the treasure map, travel near the region where the treasure is, more or less, then i zoom the map until it is at the same scale as the t-map.

At that point I use any recognizable shape in the t-map to determine where is the "exact" location of the pin: when i think i'm more or less on the pin, i simply start digging.

To me the important thing is the scale of the game map: it should match the one in the t-map, otherwise i don't get the sense of location relative to other parts of the environment.

90% of the times i get the chest at the first shot. When i don't i stay where i am and i dig left, right and back. If that doesn't work, i start walking in circle, one step per time, digging in four directions.

Notice that the t-map doesn't contain all the environment detail but you can still recognize in it (and this is useful when there are no enclosed shapes surrounding the spot, like in the middle of a forest or desert) some pattern of colored pixels.

Well ... for specific hints and tips
UO Fishing and Treasure Hunting - Stratics Forums

I was under the impression that they "randomized" the old locations and busted up a bunch of Thunter rune book libraries ...
*shrugs*

There >maybe< an app out there ... to "pinpoint where to Dig"

EC only ... going by the graphics ...

I have rarely ever had problems finding treasure map locations as I use the mining skill. You get a pretty generous range with it maxed out.

I don't use any map tools as I recognize many of the locations. If you use the enhanced client, it has a built in map system to help you out. If you use the classic client, you can take a look at the UO Automap alternative. I'm not sure the status of this as I don't use it but it might help:

I said this about a year ago... No one should have to rely on outside programs (UOA or UOC) to find a location. I don't use them, nor mining and have no problem finding the location. But there really is a problem for others that needs to be addressed.

Using the map from the EC is a big help, but a lot of people still use the CC. While the mining skill is helpful, I really do wish someone come up with code similar to the one used with the turkey map system where you are told how close you are to a location as you search. This would be a wonderful enhancement to the tracking skill, and more appropriate than mining.

To the OP, it could be that there is a server related problem causing either or both of these programs not to function and it may be soon resolved. I do hope so.

I have done a dozen or so the past couple days without much trouble. I am using the enhanced client and the maps match up quite well with the minimap. I have 0 mining on my t-hunter and I would guess that I dig about 20-30 spots before finding it.

@Aerodice: none of those links work in that thread. try em. then read the last few posts in said thread.

I guess i will have to try enhance clients map to see if it helps but...

Can't add Mining to an already packed skillset

cartography 100
lockpicking 100
music 120
prov 120
peace 115
magery 105
meditation w/ left overs.

I used the map at stratics for years. I come back and they fixed somethin that wasnt broken, I mean did they at least fix the loot in these chests?

Once again any working link to uocartographer where i can download it would be nice. If not for tmaps then just to have a bigger map. Goin to install EC... /sigh thnx

They sure do ether need to give cords on the maps or add in a "hunter seeker" bit to the maps. What I mean is the "your close to the treasure, your nearly there, so close it could bite you" routine just like Unified said. Gm mining helps but you still can miss it.

The uoam is gettable still and so is upcartogrpher. They did have a hic up this morning but its fixed.
As for the libary books on t maps are still good, I have gotten very close to maps by using them and the map to generaly find the spot. Also some maps are dead on the old map spots.

If you are going to start using the EC then I would suggest installing Pinco's UI right from the get go. You won't regret it.

Thank you for the links Halister. Got UOCart for my classic client.

I was able to try the EC w/ the new Pinco's UI.... problem solved I believe :thumbup1:

Fabulous UI btw... only got to play with it for a few minutes but honestly it's gonna make the enhanced client experience that much better. TY

they fixed somethin that wasnt broken,
they "put the hunt back in t-hunting". after that I learned how to flush skills.
i kept the lockpick skill(for dark wisp chests). the rest are gone, permanently and started me on my road out of the game

Yep, this is how we did it before UO AutoMap, location databases, UOCartographer, and the EC.

It worked just fine back in 1998 - still works just fine today.
