HLD and DCI

Can someone please clarify HLD and DCI. According to uoguide, 70 DCI is need to be HLD proof. HLD is stated as decreasing DCI by 25%. So the calculations should be:

70*0.25=17.5

70-17.5=52.5

But DCI is capped at 45 so shouldn't it be 60 and not 70.

60*0.25=15

60-15=45

Make the 70% just 70 and make the 25% from HLD just 25.

70-25= 45 at least that's how I figured they do it.

I think the answers are in the warriors forum, but to quickly summarize, it lowers it by 25. Also if you have HLD on the glasses and on the weapon it doesn't stack and reduces it by 50. All it does is increase the odds of the special going off, and the odds of that would't be 80% if you had 50 and 30, because the special can only go off once even if even if the RNG rolled a hit on both. Simply put, half the time the 30% from the mace and shields is hit it will be nullified because the 50% from the weapon also rolled a hit, so in this case the actual odds of rolling HLD is 65%.

Can someone say if DCI is at all effective without any weapon skill including wrestling?
Depends. If you're a human mage with 120 eval you get 20 anatomy also so you're effectively running around with a 80 defensive skill level.

Ok, say you're an elf without anatomy or any weapon skill including wrestling.

Does DCI, by itself, offer any benefit?

Very minimal if at all. In pvp you'll get hit every time by other players. Couldn't tell you for pvm.

Sorry to jump in here, but I was also never sure about this:
If I have an archer (120 weapon skill), will I benefit from DCI or not?
Thx in advance...

Yes, it checks your weapon skill vs their weapon skill, then your DCI vs their HCI. The only thing archery can't get any use out of is parry.

Ah, so it's a minus 25 DCI instead of decreasing by 25%. As you can probably imagine, the wording is a bit sketchy. "A successful hit with such a weapon lowers the defense rating of the target by 25% for 8 seconds."

Well DCI itself is a percentage, which from that point of view I think makes it a little simpler. But yeah you got it.

Well, based on the wording "reduces by 25%" we would assume this means we take X amount and multiply it by the percent and then subtract that amount. Like if I had 100 dollars and it was reduced by 25% that would be 100*0.25=25 then 100-25=75 dollars. Furthermore, if we take the percent form of DCI which would be 70% as you say, it would be 0.7 in decimal form. So we do 0.7*0.25=0.175 and then 0.7-0.175=0.525. Which would result in 52.5 percent DCI. If I'm interpreting the wording incorrectly please correct me.

There ya go, UO guide is all fixed. I hope that clears it up for ya.
