Why the heck was the hitching post changed to use a charge when you stable a pet? The posts were previously impractical for claiming pets, simply because it is too difficult to get the materials to make the hitching ropes, but at least they were useful for stabling pets. Now they are essentially completely useless for anything but strictly emergency purposes...

I think replicas versions have always (at least since I returned to UO two years ago) used a charge to claim or stable a pet. Non-replica versions do not use a charge to stable.

They certainly do now. I just used up all the charges on a no-replica hitching post, stabling pets...

This should not be happening. The non-replica hitching posts were not supposed to have or need charges.

My original hitching post has always had charges. It can just hold more than the replica.

I chucked mine in a chest because it took charges to stable pets. The other problem is that if it isn't set to "Anyone" nobody else can use it.. but if you DO set it to "Anyone" people with eat your charges claiming pets. So much for having a free stable spot in rune libraries and such.

Turns out I may have been misinformed. The hitching post that was using up charges when I stabled pets was a replica. I couldn't see it because it was on a different floor and behind a wall, and I was told it had been exchanged with a non-replica hitching post.

I just confirmed that the regular hitching post does not use a charge when stabling a pet.
