Nice writeup...If you plan to update it perhaps it could be made sticky... so people can see what has been up?

Well, I tried to edit it to fix that picture on the bottom, but it removed all of the tags, and there is no way I am going to go through that again. I was planning after this to just post event stories as they happen on the news page which creates a new thread here. However, there is no way I will be able to attend every scenario and it would be great if people could add to this so we can all keep track of the plot.

Very, very nice. This should prove most useful for anyone interested in the state of our events. At least for me it has already become invaluable...I would have never know otherwise that something happened Tuesday evening.

I'm too big a baseball fan though to just walk away from two of the best playoff series I have ever seen so I have hardly been on since Monday.

At least I know where we stand now in terms of these events. I just wish I could get to more of these mini-events, they seem to just happen whenever.

Dwarves, expect to see more of me around your fair city. I have a yearning for participation and it seems the gods have favored your tavern. If I must check there 3 times a night I'll do it (well, after game 7 tonight that is, hehe).

Ok so today at some point our criers announced that the Guards were needed to go get reagents for the cure to Martel's poison. The guards went into shame and into Ilshenar. The fought several champions as well. I wasn't there at all and don't have screenshots(didn't hear about it til it was over). Garth Grey was present after it ended and said he would provide more details. Looks like we will start seeing Lord Martel again soon though..

I was there, no pics though.

I came a little after it started. First we went to the mage towers in Shame to find some reagents. A wizard spawned (light blue highlight, no loot) and did like 300 damage meteor swarms. We found 2 of the reagents and moved west to the other tower and repeated the same. This time a light purple wizard spawned to prevent us from finding the reagents. Canin (I can't remember, think that's right) then led us to Humility shrine in ish. From there we went to Lizardmen City and into a cave in the middle of the city. There was a balron and ancient wyrm in the passage way. We killed them and moved to the exit of the passage way and came out in the ancient wyrm's lair where Rikktor was waiting us along with a few other ancient wyrms. Rikktor seemed a lot harder than the normal one at champ spawns and after killing him we were able to release the last needed reagents. There were no artifacts spawned (to my knowledge) but the loot wasn't too bad. If you want to check out the reagents, they are on display upstairs in the Brit Castle. He said he was working on a cure and hopefully Martell will be back with us soon.

Not to give her too big a head, but I thought eeryone ought to see that Eryn is getting recognized for her great work as shard reporter already. Joshua Rowan was so impressed with her summary that he reposted it as a major article for event news for all of the shards. Check out what he had to say here.

Good work hun!

Last night Nyssa was in Luna for awhile, and I had a chance to ask her a few questions. Clainin the alchemist who is working to cure Martel's poison now has the right reagents, but it may still be awhile before he finds the right combination. Nyssa said that Sten was still imprisoned, and that she was going to ask Clainin what was needed for a truth serum that might be used on Sten. She said she would have to wait on that until after Clainin had finished his work on Martel's cure. She said that she might be returning to Luna this evening at some point. As a side note, Nyssa seems almost certain that Sten is now working exclusively for Minax. I was going to make this a news story in itself, but had some issues with the computer late last night.

Just to keep all of this in one thread. Im going to paste the most recent plot posts here. No fancy pics or anything just straight info but I will include links to the original news if there are any.

Search for Truth: News thread here: http://uo.stratics.com/news/LakeAustin.shtml#newsitem1066686861,6346,

Nyssa posted a call to arms on the bulletin board in Paladin Hall. When many had assembled there, she announced that Clainin, Lord British's chief mage, was working feverishly on a cure for Martel now that he had the right reagents.

Nyssa had gone to see Clainin to discover if there was a way to make a truth serum that could be used on Sten Wyndham. Clainin was too busy to help her, but did give her the name of a mage he had known long ago. The name was Laz'gul, and after searching for some time, Nyssa discovered that Laz'gul was dead. She knew where he had once lived, and believed that he might have left notes behind. However, the place was well guarded and this was why she needed the aid of the Royal Guard. The Guard was led through the public moongate to Trinsic in Trammel, and from there Nyssa opened a gate to the entrance into the Hidden Valley.

Laz'gul, it seems, had chosen to become a lich, and had called some of his friends to help guard his old possesions. The Guard encountered a battalion of Lich Lords and Skeletal Mages, which were dispatched after a fevered battle in the close quarters of the Hidden Valley.

In the basement of Laz'gul’s house, the Guard discovered a book with the following words inscribed:

The Potion of Truth
When it becomes necessary to sift truth from lie, this potion, if properly made, is the means whereby that can be accomplished. No matter how great the resistance, the subject with answer any question presented, and ye may rest assured, if he lies, the pain he feels will show thee that he does so. Be warned, there is a chance the subject will die from this potion! Reagents required:

- Rusty Pig Iron
- Wyrm’s Heart
- Nightshade flowers
- Pure Blackmoor
- Vampire Batwing
- Demon Blood
- Sulphuric Ash
- Grave Dust

Fill a flask with these components and add the blood of the one of whom ye seek the truth. Heat it until all the reagents congeal. Stir the mixture and allow it to cool. Stand in the center of a pentagram and utter these words of power whilst holding the flask above thy head: “ Angras Vex Sophos” while making the third gesture in the arcane forms of elder magicks. If the words are spoken correctly and the gesture is made, a bolt of lightning will strike the flask. Fear not, ye will not be harmed unless ye have faile din one or the other. In that case, consider thyself fortunate if ye survive. Let the potion cool once more, and then, soon after, give it to the subject to drink, or if ye prefer, place it some food that he may partake of it unbeknownst to him. He need not consume it all, yet do not save what remains, for it will putrify in a matter of hours and be rendered useless.
The subject will convulse for a short time, and appear poisoned (indeed he shall be!) but it will pass soon. Begin the questioning, but only one person should ask the questions as the subject may become confused and fight its effects. The effects will last only a short time, so be sure thy questions are ready beforehand. If the subject seeks to lie, he will be stricken with great pain and ye will know he doth lie to thee. Present the question again until ye have the truth. If the subject dies it is possible he shall not be able to be resurrected, for the potion shall make his body unfit for resurrection, being corrupted by the effects of the potion.

Such is the chance ye must take if ye are willing to know the truth.

The Guard returned to Luna where Nyssa was waiting. Camilla Drodon had made a copy of the book, which she gave to Nyssa. After reading the book, Nyssa left to go see if Clainin could spare a moment to help her with the potion. While she was away, a group of Royal Guard returned to Hidden Valley to finish off the remaining monsters. Sir Ohpid of Yew, and Executioner killed Laz'gul during the skirmish.
Nyssa returned to Luna a short while later, explaining that an aide of Clainin had made the potion for her. Nyssa, a mage of many talents, had baked two delicious pies and had added the potion to each. One to be used this evening, and one to be kept in reserve for later uses. (Of the many lessons learned this evening, the one learned best was this: be ever watchful when Nyssa offers you pastry.) As it was noted in the book, the potion works best when only one person is chosen to ask the questions. Nyssa asked us to choose who that person should be. Elrythien Nywiel, was elected to play the role of interrogator. The Guard gated into Yew prison in Trammel, where Sten was incarcerated. Sten was coaxed into eating the pie, and was immediately wracked with pain just as the book had foretold. Upon questioning he revealed the following:

He has met Keeonean twice, both times in the Orc dungeon.
When asked about his wife, he didn’t seem to know whom we were referring to until the name Lynnette was mentioned. Some thought this might indicate that this is not the original Sten.
He admitted to allowing Lynnette to be kidnapped and tortured.
The purpose of the communication crystal was to spy and send information. He was paid by Keeonean to do this.
He did not know how to free Lynnette from her prison.
He admitted to spying of his own free will.
After these things were revealed, the truth potion wore off. Sten was confused at first, but once he realized what had happened he issued many threats. He claimed to be much more than a simple farmer. He said he had played everyone for fools, and that everyone would die just like Martel and soon. During his rant, Sten said, “Lady, please get me out of this!”. We must assume that she heard his plea, for shortly thereafter he escaped his bonds and fled. Due to the restrictions of the Trammel facet, The Royal Guard was unable to attack him. They chose to track him instead. He somehow jumped a gate into Delucia, Trammel. From there he accessed his bank box, and after a few more threats disappeared before the eyes of the gathered Guard.
It was a very angry and frustrated group that returned to Paladin Hall in Luna. When Nyssa arrived and heard the tale, she was not upset in the slightest. She said that she had suspected that Sten could be freed at any time from the prison.

Nyssa then said, “Well, I am going to do something that Lord Martel may not approve of. I am placing a bounty on his head. Slay him on sight. If you can bring proof of it, I will reward you”.

She added that the Guard should wait and allow her to track him before attempting to find him on their own. Nyssa thanked everyone for their time and effort in this endeavor and then she departed. She mentioned that she might be in need of help tomorrow night, but it was uncertain.

On 10/21/03 This was posted by Elves of Lorien:

My assistant stumbled upon a gruesome display in Luna a few moments ago. Sten Wyndam's head is there along with a disturbing message which reads:

"Per the lady Nyssa's request and for all the trouble this worm has caused thee, m'Lord. May thy health improve."

Lord Vangerdahast followed shortly after, and while they were discussing the message, Nyssa appeared. They showed her the message and the head. She said they were locked to the ground using the same magic as was used to lock down the cryptic message in the hall some days back.

Our conversation was brief, but Lady Nyssa was obviously upset by this act, saying that it would deeply upset Lord Martel and that she did not intend this outcome. She wondered if perhaps this was perpetrated by Minax in order to discredit her.

We also discussed the theory that the Sten we spoke with in Yew Prison two night prior may have been an imposter, that perhaps the true Sten could have been killed before then, though this is just speculation. It was also mentioned that the appearance of Sten's death would be a good ruse to stop us from continuing to look for him

It was decided that Nyssa would continue searching for Sten just in case, and that she would decide how best to proceed next.

Another piece of news was that Lynette has been moved. It is not known where or why.

New developments on 10/25/03. Original thread here: http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4488742&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

From the bulletin board in Paladin Hall:

Greetings,

My Lord Martel remains very ill, and Clainin's work on a curative continues. He may be finished with it today or tommorrow. When he does, and all is ready, I will do my utmost to send word.

Nyssa returned to Luna later on in the evening and spoke to a small gathering there. In summary, she said that Lord Martel was very ill, and it was deeply worrying her. Nyssa stated that the cure to Martel's poisoning should be ready tommorrow. She said there were several parts in the process and that was what was worrying her. She said 'If anything fails, it could go badly'.

On Lynette and the Sten saga:

Lynnette has been moved from the pinnacle near the Ophidian Palace. She has never reappeared there. She said "I have conclusive proof that the head delivered is that of Sten Wyndham" and "He is, in fact, now dead" "But the more I study this and search for truth, the less I think it is Minax's doing."

Errant offered an interesting theory suggesting that perhaps it was a Shadowlord agent, maybe even Ramuz, who had killed Sten. She said she would persue that line of thinking and investigate it further.

She concluded that she hoped we would all be there at the administration of the cure tommorrow evening. Martel has been moved to Lord British's castle, so that would be where it will occur. Nyssa said "I am fairly sure it will be in the evening."
She said that if word comes it will direct us to go to the castle, but reminded us that the criers will not obey her commands. For those of you that dont know, our EM has always had technical problems with the criers, and they only seem to work for the larger events.

On 10/27/03 We had another event. The original thread with pics is here:
http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4493961&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

Our Royal Guard Commander Martel Nevarre has been lying near death for almost two weeks, after being poisoned by a magical spider. Clainin, Lord British’s chief mage, has been working towards a cure to the poison, and members of the Royal Guard have aided where they could.

Word arrived that Lord Martel’s remedy was ready. Many gathered in the throne room of Lord British’s castle in hopes of aiding Clainin with its delivery.

Clainin arrived and said “I bring good and glad tidings. I have completed the research of the spell and used the reagents that were gathered to create a potion that will cure the poison coursing through the Commander's body. However, there are yet some tasks that need to be performed before the spell can be cast. Geoffrey and I met with Anon and determined that the spell needs reinforcement. We must visit 3 shrines that we feel are virtues embodied by Martel and attune them to the shrine representations in the Chamber of Virtues. It was our feeling that Honesty, Honor and justice were embodied the most. What we will need to do is go to each of those shrines in turn and chant the mantra thrice. Then we will go to the Chamber of Virtues to complete the spell. Let us be on our way, for the sooner we have cast the spell, the sooner Martel is cured.” After speaking he gated those present to the shrines he mentioned. At each shrine, those assembled said the mantra’s three times. Then a gate was opened to the Chamber of Virtues.

Upon arrival, Clainin asked that some of the guard go and retrieve Lord Martel from his bedroom in the castle. During this time a Tamer named Crystamaere began acting strangly, showing signs of illness, and saying she felt faint. Clainin asked that the participants who had not gone to retrieve Martel stand on the stones that represented their chosen virtue. They were then asked to repeat those mantras three times. Shortly thereafter, Lord Martel was escorted into the Chamber, and he looked extremely ill. Clainin gave him a potion, which he drank. He said that he felt somewhat better after having imbibed the brew. Clainin began to cast the spell that would complete the ritual when suddenly Crystamaere transformed into a monster, and the Chamber erupted in chaos.

Clainin’s spell was interrupted and it took quite some time to kill the intruder and the mass of minions that appeared beside her. Many remarked at how similar she was in appearance to Nierra. When she died piles of gold littered the floor, although no special items were found on her body.

Afterwards, Clainin explained that his spell was unsuccessful because he had been interrupted. Martel felt somewhat better, but still felt the poison coursing through his body. It was at this point that an apothecary by the name of Odric made his presence known. He said that he might be able to aid Lord Martel, but that there would be a price. No one present had heard of this man before, and all were highly suspicious of his motivations. He said that he would go and prepare his remedy and meet us all at the castle. It was agreed and everyone returned to the castle, meeting in the south Council chambers.

Odric returned shortly thereafter. Clainin expressed the suspicion that all were feeling, and asked why we should trust him. Odric explained that he would not benefit from Martel’s death, and actually needed aid in a personal matter. He said, “You see what I have need of is for you and the Royal Guard to recover an heirloom for me. A priceless artifact that Minax now possesses, by priceless I mean it has value only to me.” Martel and Clainin consulted with each other and the Royal Guard on what should be done. There was some debate, but the fact of the matter was simply that Odric had Lord Martel over a barrel and there was little that could be done other than to accept the offer. After agreeing to the price, Odric gave the potion to Clainin. The foul odor and taste were very apparent, but Clainin deemed it to be safe. Clainin gave the potion to Lord Martel, bristling under the mocking and highly disrespectful comments made by Odric. Martel drank the potion and the room held its breath. He literally turned colors before our eyes. He turned yellow, red, white, grey, and black before finally returning to normal. After a few moments Lord Martel announced that he had been cured! He was soon whisked off to rest, but promised to attend to Odric’s debt soon. The smirking Odric said that he would inform the Royal Guard of the date and time to get the artifact after speaking first with his associate. For now all are waiting and wondering just what kind of bargain we have struck, and at what real cost?

Sten's part of the plot comes to an end. Original thread here:

http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4503352&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

Nyssa posted word on the bulletin board in Luna that she would require the aid of the Royal Guard last night. It seems that she had received a pigeon from an anonymous source claiming to know the whereabouts of Lynnette. With the call raised, many of the Royal Guard awaited their orders at Paladin Hall in Luna.

Nyssa arrived, but shortly thereafter, "My Interspacial Solidifying Power was suddenly terminated." When she returned, she received another pigeon from the anonymous source and the missive asked for a meeting at the Lighthouse in the New Lands on Fellucca. The location caused a bit of confusion, as Nyssa was unable to open a gate to it. But soon Royal Guard members opened gates into Yew, where the tunnels and secret passages were used to locate the Lighthouse. Who was the mystery source? None other than Sten Wyndham! Yes, the same Sten Wyndham whose head now resides in Paladin Hall. Obviously this was the ‘false’ Sten. He led the guards to a location in the nearby mountains. Once again we were able to glimpse but not rescue Lynnette from her perch on the mount.

Once we had viewed the sickly green woman, ‘Sten’ began to taunt us saying, "There, *smiles* Take a good, long, look. For it is the last time you will see her... I told you I would have my revenge upon you when you locked me in that jail and gave me that swill to trick me. Now you will all pay for it. I am made strong by the power of the Lady!" With that, he began to summon Ogre Warlords and begging those present to try to kill him. A few temporarily became criminals by taking him up on that offer. It soon became apparent to Sten that he was going to die. He seemed shocked by this and said “This is not what you told me lady!!!!!!!”. Lynnette watching from the top of the mount said “'Tis awful! Death! Ah!”, before once again disappearing.

Pigeons were sent, and Nyssa joined us shortly thereafter. Upon examination of the body she determined that this was not Sten Wyndham, but who or what it had been was impossible to determine. The Royal Guard returned to Paladin Hall. Discussing it afterwards, those assembled realized that the entire scenario had been nothing more than an elaborate plot to kill Sten before Lynnette's eyes. Sten, in his journal of long ago, had said that the sight of him had kept Lynnette from killing herself through starvation. Watching ‘Sten’s’ death at the hands of the Royal Guards could serve two possible purposes. It was either to destroy her will to live, or to turn her completely against her brother Lord Martel. As to why Minax would go to such lengths, even as a distraction, is still a topic of much debate amongst the ranks of the Royal Guard.

We had an event on Halloween night. Original thread here: http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4512035&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

It was late in the evening on All Hallows Eve. Lady Galoneth and myself were discussing some of the recent gossip at the inn in Luna, when suddenly Lord Martel Nevarre awoke and came outside to join us. It was quite nice to see him looking well, with normal hued skin rather than the green sickly state he has been in for weeks. He greeted us, and informed us that he had a matter he would like for us to attend to. Lord Martel asked that we gather others to us, but few were able to come at such a surprising time. We met in the Luna Council Hall, where Lord Martel laid out our mission.

"There is a grove wherein an ancient Yew tree stands. This ancient Yew tree is the home of a spirit. Some think a demon. It is quite harmless, but it has great precognitive powers, Seer-like but it only appears rarely. The spirit only appears to those of good and noble heart who deliver the prize it seeks but that prize is not known. At the base of the tree is a small chest, there is a riddle inscribed upon the chest and apparently if one of good and noble heart places the item desired within the chest the spirit may appear and questions may be asked of it. The one foremost on my mind is... Is Lynnette alive and where is she being held prisoner." Lord Martel asked if we would seek out this spirit and ask those questions of it. He gave us a rune, and shortly we found the tree. At the base of the tree was a chest with a riddle inscribed. The riddle was "In Thy Palm I Lie, Making Greedy Hearts Sigh, Flashing Color in Thine Eye." It was determined that the answer to the riddle was a diamond. Caity Lauren, a member of the gathering, happened to have a diamond on her person, and when she placed it into the box, the spirit was summoned.

Caity Lauren began questioning the spirit. Her heart must be quite pure and noble for the spirit answered many questions. We discovered that Lynnette is alive, being held in the desert palace of the Ophidians, but that she should not be rescued at this time. Lynnette was poisoned by the Ophidian Matriarch that is holding her captive. There is no cure to the poison, but the Matriarch has taught Lynnette how to heal herself in bits and pieces. If the two are separated, Lynnette will die. The spirit told us that there is no way to barter with the Ophidian for she takes her orders from the Evil One. As to why Minax is holding Lynnette? "Who can fathom the mind of evil? Perhaps to torment her adversary, Perhaps as a card to be played in her game, Perhaps for pleasure of tormenting her." The spirit departed, and we returned to Luna, meeting in Lord Martel's office.

We relayed the messages of the Great Spirit, and Lord Martel showed a small bit of his temper upon hearing it. He vowed to find out more about this Matriarch, and asked that no one take it upon themselves to find and rescue Lynnette until he had a more definite plan of action. He then said that he had other news to share with us. "I have been reading some history, and it seems that in the next day or so there is the possibility of an ancient evil arising. A demon lord named Og'rath the Annihilator may be set free from the infernal abyss to wreak havoc on the lands. Likely not here, but Trammel. It is written that every few hundred years this may happen. Within a few days of this day. Perhaps tomorrow or the day after, I cannot be sure. What I do know is that he will resurrect several powerful undead lords who will then marshal undead forces and if they are defeated, he will do battle himself." When asked how we will know when the being is summoned Martel replied. "I will do my utmost to have it sent across the realms. So that all may hear wherever they are." With that he went off to prepare and plan for Lynnette's rescue.

I liked how Nyssa even included the use of a thief, ya that was me hehe a monkey with a disguise kit on but it was interesting how i became involved. It started out as I stole one of the whatchya m'call it globes...the ones that link to pets...then I stalked the group in hopes of free powerscrolls but it ended up as an event. The group was really nice to me and I ended up giving the tamer her pet globe back. /php-bin/shared/images/icons/smile.gif

This event occurred on 11/02/03. Original thread here:

http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4516219&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

A message was sent via the Gods that Lord Martel needed the aid of the Royal guards in Luna at the Paladin Hall. The message was heard throughout the world, and as such the number of guardsmen who arrived was staggering.

Upon arrival, the smirking and very impatient Odric greeted the Royal Guardmen and women. It was time to pay the debt Lord Martel had incurred by allowing Odric to heal him. Odric informed the group that the items to be recovered were a bracelet and a pair of earrings, encrusted with gems never before seen in our lands. The jewels were being held in Minax's house in the Hedge Maze on the Felluca facet. Lord Martel told everyone to go downstairs and through the moongate into Jhelom, Felluca. Upon arrival there, he asked that the Guard form into two groups. The first group was to be a diversion, the other group would be sent to retrieve the heirlooms.

The diversion was an attack on the Orc Fort in Yew where the Guard was to kill Kor'bak, one of Minax's generals. The group that went to Yew faced great obstacles, as an enormous number of orcs of varying species appeared as the troops arrived. The guard quickly located Kor'bak, and began to attempt to slay him. He was very powerful, and it took quite some time to defeat him.

Lady Minax herself showed up to aid her General dressed in her finest attire. Sir Ophid of Yew took pictures of her garb which are located here. It was all for naught because, shortly after she arrived Kor'bak died and piles of Orcish gold littered the ground.

Minax was highly angered to discover that her general had been killed, but that anger was slight compared to the rage she expressed when she discovered that this was a mere diversion, and that her very house was under siege. Minax left the orc fort to attend to her house, but she would be too late to stop the Royal Guard from taking the jewels.

Meanwhile, the second group had gone into the hedge maze to locate Odric's heirlooms. The guard faced few obstacles, and Lord Martel quickly found the items located in the house on the second floor.

It appears that the box had been bewitched however, for as soon as the Royal Guard located the Box with the jewels, Balrons and fleshrenderers appeared.

Martel ordered both teams back to Luna, where Odric was waiting. Odric was devilishly gleeful when he received the jewels. He refused to say what purpose they served, or why they were important. He did offer to perhaps make other 'deals' with Martel at a later time. For now the debt has been paid and at the same time the Royal Guard was able to strike a blow to Minax. Lady Minax was highly angered by the events of this evening. Will she get her revenge? Who is Odric, and what does he intend to do with the jewels? We can only assume that time will tell.

Another event on 11/9/03. Original thread here :

Lord Martel's assistant Nyssa appeared in Luna looking for the aid of some Royal Guardsmen. I had been away visiting other realms, and had missed quite a bit of the latest news. At the time there were only three gathered, so I asked that she relay the most recent news while we awaited the arrival of others. Nyssa said "Odric came with word of the location of Minax. It was hidden valley west of Trinsic. She was there with Keeonean. It is unknown what they were doing or how Odric knew this. The royal guard attacked. The battle was fierce... many fell. It seemed we would indeed slay her. Well, "they" as I did not partake. Suddenly Keeonean began acting strangely, Minax sought to retreat. As they fled...Keeonean took Minax's necklace and, some reported, gave it to Odric who had hidden himself nearby. Odric subsequently vanished, apparently with the item. Minax fled. Keeonean was surrounded and captured and was taken to the prison in Yew. His trial was last night. Jurors were selected and charges made. Then, a mysterious gate opened and an apparition, in the form of Minax entered and killed the guards and him, Then vanished back through the portal." I asked what the charges against Keeonean had been and Nyssa replied, "Treason, declaring war against the realm, attempted kidnapping of the king, murder, and the poisoning of Lord Martel. I do not think all were listed. Keeonean made a pointed reply. Keeonean blamed the King for leaving, and creating Trammel, accused him of powerlessness." She also stated that neither Lord Martel nor herself had interrogated Keeonean prior to the trial.

Enough of the Royal Guard had arrived by the end of the telling of the story that Nyssa announced the current mission. It seems that Lynette, with Nyssa's aid, had escaped from the Ophidians that had held her hostage these many weeks. Lynnette is still suffering from the poison, but the Ophidian Matriarch had taught her enough to keep herself alive for at least a little while. Nyssa asked that those present go into the Lost Lands of Felluca to capture Sythys, the Desert Queen of the Ophidians. Sythys was the Matriarch that had originally poisoned Lynnette. It was hoped that with the Ophidian in custody, a cure for Lynnette would be found. According to information gathered by Nyssa, Sythys patrols the perimeter of the Ophidian Villa daily. Our orders were to capture her and escort her back to the entrance into the lighthouse in Yew. The Mafia, a member of our party opened a gateway into Yew near the court of Truth. From there we entered the Lost Lands. After some confusion it was decided that the best way to reach the villa was by boat. After crossing the river, we encountered several Ophidian warriors and shaman. They fell quite easily before The Royal Guards, and soon we began to battle our prey Sythys. It took some time, but eventually she surrendered and allowed herself to be taken prisoner.

The Guardsmen escorted Sythys back onto the boat and soon we had her near the Court of Truth.

Nyssa arrived and took her into custody, and announced that Lord Martel himself would like to reward those present for their efforts. He met them in the Court of Truth, giving each his thanks and a check for 10,000 gold. All who had not been recruited into the Royal Guard prior to this event were given sashes. The reds that had joined us mid-adventure were met in the tunnels of T2A, where they were inducted into the Royal Guard as well.

and another on 11/10/03. Original thread here: http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4542235&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

It was supposed to have been a lazy evening. Lord Martel rarely ever has missions for the Royal Guard on Monday nights. Out of habit, I went to Luna to check and see if anything was new at Paladin Hall. I was quite surprised to discover that a new book had appeared in front of the throne. I quickly read the book and discovered that it was an Investigative Report released by Lord Martel regarding the events surrounding the arrest and trial of Keeonean. It contained no truly new information, but I made a copy nonetheless. I was discussing the information with a friend when Lord Martel arrived. He explained that he had a mission of a personal nature this evening, and asked that we spread the word to gather more troops. He was highly dismayed that the criers were still non-compliant, but said that he believed that matter would be resolved soon. I called upon my flock of pigeons, and posted a notice here on the skypages. Many began arriving in Luna and it was soon time to receive our orders.

Lord Martel explained that Sythys, the Desert Queen, had agreed to give him the antidote for Lynnette's poison in exchange for her freedom. We had only to gather the main ingredient. Lord Martel said, "The Desert Queen revealed that there is a cure for Lynnette. She can make it, in fact, and will, for her freedom, which I have agreed to. But the cure involves finding a very rare item, and, as all know, rare items are often jealously guarded. This one is no exception. Sythys, the Queen, says that her people have a guardian. On both facets they have a fortress. The same kind of being guards both: A balron, and they revere it and they are able to learn things from it. One such thing was the poison given to Lynnette. And the antidote is created by an item from the balron, a piece of bone. Normally such things are destroyed, but its followers sometimes keep such things for their own use. So we are to find this item in Terathan Keep. We need only worry about the balron and the Ophidian guards." After explaining our mission, Lord Martel asked that we take the public moongate and go to Jhelom, Trammel. Once there he gated us all into the Terathan Keep.

There was quite a battle at the keep, but the number of Balron and Ophidian corpses far outnumbered those of the fallen Royal guard members.

Royal Guard Machomai spotted the bone that was required for the remedy. After examining it, Martel noted that it had fossilized, and as such he could only take shavings of it. He asked that everyone return to Luna, while he took the bone shavings to Sythys. Martel opened a gateway into the Court of Truth by mistake, and it made for some nice comic relief. He arrived in Luna a short time later and announced that the shavings were all that was needed for the remedy but Sythys feared for her safety. Martel had promised her an escort back to the villa, but this time the facet would be Trammel. He told us that Sythys would be waiting for us in the lighthouse, and then he opened a gate into the Yew Prison so that we could make our way there. Unfortunately, there were only a few present that knew the intricacies of how to find the teleporter into the tunnels. After much confusion, the troops joined the waiting Sythys in the lighthouse and we began the trek to the Ophidian Villa. There were several waves of monsters that attempted to halt our mission.

The Royal Guard got lost several times, making matters much worse. We finally arrived at a river and Guardsman Mihoshi allowed everyone to use his boat to get across. We left Sythys at her Villa, and happily returned to Luna.

Lord Martel greeted us upon arrival and announced that the potion had worked and Lynnette had been cured. He told us he would let us speak with her if we wished. Many were enthusiastic about this prospect and soon he opened a gate. He asked that we not disclose her location, and I will respect that wish and just say she was in a very comfortable place.

Lynnette greeted us, somewhat surprised at the fuss being made over her I think. She thanked everyone for coming to her aid on so many occasions. Lynnette revealed that she knew nothing of Minax's plans, but that Minax did speak to her and said many things. Lynnette was reticent to speak of these things to us, but did say that she had told Lord Martel most of it. She also stated that Minax had planned to kill her but changed her mind. She said "At least Minax did not leave me with the orcs *shudders* The serpent creatures reek, but they care not for humans the way orcs do. If you understand me." What trials this poor woman must have been through one can only imagine! Of the false Sten she said that he was some kind of shapeshifter, and that he had taken the real Sten's place when Sten had left the Dwarf Tavern to go into Trinsic. The real Sten had snuck off to see Lynnette, but was captured by Minax and the shapeshifter replaced him. Sten was kept alive in an unknown location so that Minax could use him to gather information for the imposter. One night he was kidnapped from Minax and soon after killed and his head left behind in Paladin Hall. Lynnette seemed certain that it was not Minax who had killed him.

Lynette then told of her escape from the Ophidians. The reptiles had apparently been shocked when they heard that Minax had killed Keeonean. They had decided it would be best to move Lynnette, and it was during the confusion that Nyssa had opened a gate into Vesper and Lynnette had made it through. Lynnette feels very sorry for not listening to Martel in the beginning, and is very humble regarding her own place in this series of events. She was obviously very sad, but trying to put a good face on things for our benefit. We began to speak of her brother and of the family traits of stubbornness and strength that manifest so frequently. When I brought up my continued suspicion of a possible blooming love between Martel and Nyssa, Lynnette replied, " He thinks more of her than he is willing to admit." Shortly thereafter, she decided it was time to rest and bid us good evening.

I believe the evening was enjoyable for all who attended. It had all the elements for a grand adventure. We had an epic battle, rescue, and even a hint of romance. Lynnette is back and in good health, although I am sure it will take some time for her to recover from her ordeal. I cannot wait to see where the next twist leads..

This occured on 11/13/03. I believe this to be a stand alone event, not related to the ongoing plot but thought i would include it in case i am wrong. Original thread here: http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4547778&page=4&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

Wednesday evening, Nyssa posted the following on the bulletin board in Luna: I bring ill tidings. I have received word from reputable sources that the time for the demonlords appearance is nigh, even this very day. Please be ready to engage him and his forces where they may appear. In response to this many began to prepare for battle. On other shards this event was held entirely in Trammel, and was a Harrower in disguise. Our event was entirely different. At 10:30(CST) everyone received a system message from Zilo, "Call to Arms! A menace has despoiled the Moonglow cemetary, and animated an army!" At the cemetery, there was a mass spawn, including such fan favorites as daemons, lich lords and rotting corpses.

After that 'menace' had been dealt with, there was another call to arms, "The undead menace is spreading! Enemies from beyond the grave gather in Vesper Cemetary!" Vesper was the same as Moonglow, only the spawn seemed heavier there.

Again just as soon as the residents of the graveyard had been decimated, another call went out. "Call to Arms! A third outcropping of undead denizens has captured a foot hold at Cove Cemetary!"

After dealing with the spawn there, yet another message, "The location of the undead general has been discerned! The City of the Dead! Felucca! To Arms!" This caught many unprepared. Most people had been expecting a Trammel only event. The location was difficult to reach and it took quite some time for everyone to get there. The spawn of undead creatures was awesome to behold. Shortly thereafter another message was sent, "A rift to the netherworld has torn open North of Delucia in the City of the Dead!"

Finally, we laid eyes on Ograth the Annihilator. He fought many of those present and then returned to his portal to regain his strength. Some followed him back to his portal in the westernmost building in the City of the Dead. It was there that he would die at the hands of Britannia's warriors.

Much gold was found, but no scrolls were delivered, and no rares were found on the corpse. The reds and Fellucan citizens that had helped kill Ograth, blocked the exit to the building and almost everyone died trying to flee. The majority of the people who had attended this event never made it to the building, and had no idea that the demon had died. It was, in the eyes of many, a very disappointing event.

It occurred to me recently that there are many people interested in the OSI events on Lake Austin. We have had a lot of interesting information come to light, some has been reported and sadly some has not. So to help get everyone up to date, I thought I would put pen to scroll and write out a history of our events.

I shall begin this tale after the invasion of Moonglow as the events prior to that are well documented and can be read in books located in Paladin Hall in the city of Luna. After Moonglow was invaded it was decided that a Royal Guard should be established. Lord Martel Nevarre was chosen by Lord British to recruit and command this guard. Lord Martel is aided by his assistant Nyssa, a mage of extraordinary skill. These two servants of the Crown work tirelessly to keep the whole of Britannia safe from any threat.

One evening Lord Martel confided to some of his Royal Guardsmen that he had a sister. Lynnette and Martel had been estranged for many years because Lord Martel did not approve of her marriage to Sten Wyndham. Sten, it seems, had always been a shady character and was known to be a “cut-purse” prior to his marriage to Lynnette. Lynnette had followed her heart and as a result, cut all ties with her family. After his appointment as Commander of the Royal Guard, Lord Martel began to worry that his sister might be in danger. He sent a few of the Royal Guard to find her, and they did. They also discovered that the Orc’s had kidnapped her husband Sten. Royal Guardsmen, led by Martel, rescued Sten from the Orc's, only to discover that Lynnette had vanished sometime during the battle. Later, it was revealed that Minax had kidnapped her while the Guard was rescuing her husband.

Sten disappeared from public view for a time. He was occasionally spotted here and there doing suspicious things such as buying boats and purchasing mysterious items from local merchants. His sudden wealth was also a concern, as he seemed to spend far above his means. In light of this information, an arrest warrant was issued for Sten Wyndham. The charges were “Suspicion of Treason” and “Suspicion of Kidnapping”. When members of the Royal Guard were sent to arrest him, he was being guarded by Ogre Warlords. This new breed of monster is tied to Minax, and has only been seen where she and her minions have been working. His hiding spot was in the tunnels beneath Buccaneers Den, a place used prior as a staging point for attacks on Moonglow.

Sten was arrested. However, the evidence was not enough to keep him imprisoned, and he was soon set free. He was spotted on several further occasions always acting suspiciously. Sten also proved to have a loose tongue when plied with ample amounts of ale. It became obvious to many that there was more to him than met the eye.

A book was left by Minax in Paladin hall in which she told Lord Martel that she would kill Lynnette if Martel continued to meddle in her affairs. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that Minax had planned a secret meeting with the Ophidians in the Lost Lands of Felucca. All of the Royal Guard was called and waged war there, killing all but one of her Lieutenants. Lord Martel caught glimpses of Lynnette, but Minax kept her well hidden during the heat of battle.

Later on the same evening, Nyssa sent a small group of Guardsmen to locate Sten and take him to the Dwarven community of Kraggen-cor, where it was hoped he could be watched. Shortly after his arrival and after much Dwarven ale, he revealed to those present that he had written a journal. He left the journal in the hands of Grom Brightaxe, after securing the oaths of all those present that they would not reveal the contents of the journal until after Sten's death. Those present kept the contents of the journal a secret until recently when new evidence of Sten's wrongdoings came to light.

In his journal, Sten confessed his part in the entire affair. Lynette had been proud of her brother Martel's new position as Commander of the Royal Guard, and this infuriated Sten. He decided to approach Minax and her minions. He made contact with someone named Keeonean, who gave him lots of gold. Together they formed a plan to humiliate and kill Martel. Keeonean arranged for Sten to be 'captured' by the Orc's, thus leading Martel into a trap. However, the true plan was to get everyone out of the way so that Lynnette could be kidnapped. Sten had been a pawn and well used by Minax. He had no choice then but to play along, as his love for his wife and fear for her safety kept him from doing anything more. He was taken to see Lynnette, and according to his journal she had been starving herself. He described the location where she was being held as a hot dry place with stone walls all around.

Some believe that the discovery of this journal was a ruse by Sten to garner the sympathy of the Royal Guard. If the Guard find Sten to be as much a victim in these events as Lynette, they might reveal information to Sten that he can sell back to Minax.

Soon after his arrival with the Dwarves, Sten snuck out of Kraggen-cor. Nyssa found him near the tavern in Britain, where in his panic to flee he dropped several maps. Once deciphered, the maps led to the entrance to the Minax faction base in Felucca. Ogre Warlords and the like were guarding the entrance. Sten wasn't seen anywhere after that for quite some time.

Recently, a cryptic message was left in Luna Hall. It was decoded and decided that the message was meant for followers of Minax. A meeting was to take place in the spider dungeon in Ilshenar. A mass message was sent out and all of the Royal Guard rallied to aid in the fight. Prior to this battle, Martel introduced Geoffrey, Captain of the Royal Guard and Lord Martel’s second in command. The message turned out to be an elaborate trap to take out Lord Martel. He was poisoned during the battle, and is gravely ill at the time of this writing.

The evening of Martel’s poisoning, Sten was spotted in Luna, attempting to gain access to Lord Martel's room. He ran away when any of the Guard approached him. Nyssa asked some of the assembled troops to look for Sten and detain him. He was found in a house near the Minax base entrance. He claimed that he was being held prisoner there, and that the Guard had “rescued” him. He was escorted back to the tavern at Kraggen-cor.

This leads us up to the events of Tuesday. Sten left a message at the Kraggen-cor tavern that he was going to Trinsic, but would return soon. Members of the Guard gathered at the tavern and questioned him upon his return. He refused to give any information on why he had gone to Trinsic, but he did say that he remembered more about where he last saw Lynnette. The place he described was in the same general location as the initial confrontation with Minax in the Lost Lands of Felucca. Pigeons were sent to Nyssa and she arrived shortly thereafter.

Nyssa said that her sources indicated that Lynnette might very well be in that location. So the Guard set off into the dark lands to rescue the fair Lynnette. They found her, but as you can see from the picture (below), there was no way that mere mortals could rescue her from her predicament. Even Nyssa, with her awesome magical might, could do nothing to help the poor woman. It looks as if the same substance that has infected Lord Martel might have poisoned her. In addition, if someone had managed to gain access to her location, the Ophidian Matriarch guarding her would have killed her immediately.

It was with heavy hearts that the Guard returned to the Dwarven tavern. Nyssa met them there, and gave everyone present a small amount of gold for their efforts. She also said that she believed that Sten was more than he appeared, and that if somehow he could be lured into Felucca, his pack could be checked. As soon as she departed, Sten awoke and joined us in the tavern. He was lured into Occlo with rumors of the fine Mongbat Brew available there. A thief by the name of Grant snooped his bag. Inside was an active communication crystal. He had been sending messages out this entire time! In light of this the guard members present issued a citizens arrest and took him to Yew prison.

There was much debate on what to do with him once he was imprisoned. Nyssa arrived a short time afterwards and said she would take care of the matter, and investigate the communication crystal.

This concludes all of the events as of this writing.

I would especially like to thank Grom Brightaxe and Elrythien Nywiel for helping me piece these events together. Many of the facts provided here are based off of interviews with the participants and my own personal observations. I believe this to be as accurate an accounting of events as is possible at this time.

On 11/17/03, Original thread here: http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uolakeaustin&Number=4561777&page=3&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&what2=postlist&fpart=

Lynnette Wyndham, our Commander's sister posted the following note on the bulletin board in Luna:

I am seeking information about the death of my husband, Sten. I would pay handsomely for a name or names of those responsible. Please visit me this eve at the rising of the 8th star in the central sky, at my villa in Trinsic, Trammel.

This was quite a shock, as Lord Martel had asked us previously to keep the location of her new home a secret out of concern for her safety. At the appointed time, many arrived at the Villa to see what information had been gathered. Ever the gracious hostess, Lynnette ushered everyone inside, and offered pies to any who might be hungry. When she confirmed that Nyssa had given her the recipe, this reporter politely refused. We never did find out what happened to the second truth serum pie, and I wasn't about to be 'adventurous'. Lynnette seemed nervous at our presence, even fussing over the bag of spilt flour on the floor. She explained that she could not wait any longer to discover who had killed her husband. Lynnette told us that she had snuck to the bank to post because she didn't want Nyssa or Lord Martel to know of her plan. The thought of her going about unescorted worried all of those present. Regardless of our concern, Lynnette had gotten some valuable information. A book had been delivered via courier. It reads:

Meet me, Laethan, at the crypts in Yew, Trammel, this night, and I will tell thee the name of the killer of thy man. My price is ten thousand gold coins. I offer other proof as well. Do not fail to come! I make this offer only this once as it puts my life in extreme peril.
Signed,
Laethan.

Lynnette gave me this book, a rune and a check for ten thousand gold. She said that the gold was her entire savings, but that it would be worth it to her if the man told the truth. I opened a gateway and we went into the crypts in search of Laethan.

After battling through hordes of daemons, ghouls, skeletal knights and other riffraff, we finally found our quarry. Laethan was quick to confirm who we were, and that we had the gold. He told us that the man who had murdered Sten was named Mandred. "He is a member of the Shadow Lords. In league with them. He is no one of importance. And I may be able to lure him to ye some day. For more money that is.. *grins* I know him well." Laethan claimed that he was a rogue, and made his living selling information. Laethan seemed a friendly sort, seeking only to make some gold and pass on some good gossip.

Laethan then led us into another room where he pointed out a bloody hatchet on the floor. He told us that he had seen Sten die in that very room with that weapon. He told us that we could confirm that the blood was Sten's by taking the hatchet to anyone with skill in forensics "Though that skill is quite forgotten. *laughs*" . Laethan said that Sten had been taken from Minax by the Shadowlords, who had hidden him in various locations for awhile before finally killing him in the crypts. According to Laethan they had chosen this location in hopes of placing the blame elsewhere. After this, we gave him his gold and he departed. We returned to Lynnette with the news. She took it badly, and did not want to hear much of the details. She expressed frustration with having to wait for legal justice, a trial and all of that. Lynnette wants the person responsible to pay for their crimes immediately. We explained that we were not henchmen, and she apologized. At first reticent to share the news with her brother or Nyssa, we convinced her that it would be for the best. She suggested that we send a pigeon to Nyssa and have her meet us at the crypts to examine the murder weapon.

We returned to the crypts and met Nyssa in the room with the weapon. Upon examination she confirmed that it was indeed Sten Wyndham's blood on the blade. She also said that she has had dealings with Laethan before and trusted his information. Nyssa stated that she would begin looking for Mandred as soon as possible. She also told us that she had seen Lynnette's post and reported it to Martel who was 'unhappy' with his sister for putting herself in danger again. She confided that she had not told him of her order placing a bounty on Sten's head dead or alive, but said that she would do so now. This led to a discussion of Martel's temper. Nyssa said that she might just leave the information on his bedside table and hide until his anger had been spent. I couldn't resist poking a little into their possible romantic involvement. Sure enough, she confessed that she did indeed care for him greatly. She started to say more but quickly left, obviously embarrassed. It was quite amusing to see her reaction. I hope those two make their feelings known to each other as they already have to everyone else. Indeed Nyssa, if you read this, you could always just leave a copy of this article by his bedside table.. *winks*

If you were not in Moonglow the beautiful afternoon of April 3, 2004, you missed a history-making event. The Moonglow Spring Festival provided five glorious hours of fun, fellowship, commerce, adventure and even mystery to the enthusiastic participants. There is no doubt that this amazing day will go down in the annals of Lake Austin history as the first and largest event of its kind to grace our young shard. We can only hope that there will be many more to come!

Sincerest thanks are due to the Lake Austin Festival Coordinators, Aurora Stuart, Rose Cotton and Nutty Professor. They worked tirelessly over the last several weeks planning the logistics of each event, recruiting volunteers, gathering donations and arranging prizes. They did an amazing job, and the festival activities ran like clockwork for the enjoyment of all who participated. After the festival drew to a close, it seems few were ready for the day to end. Many hopped on over to the Wal Mart auction to continue the socializing, while another large group headed over to Doom for a run through the Gauntlet!

The coordinators would like to thank the Lake Austin crafters and BOD swappers who participated in the Flea Market and BOD Swap, and Belshazzar for recruiting people to the flea market as well. In addition they wished to thank the following for their donations to the Festival:

Ariana - Eggs

Kylie - Nets

Shiloh - Nets

Cristina - Eggs

Gazza of CHA - Eggs

Boochie and Willie of KGB - books, powder of fortifying

Belsambar &amp; UMP guild - 500k

Elves of Lorien - 100k, robe, rose, wand

Tremere - big chest of stuff (house minis, power scrolls, rares, gifts)

Phoebe Halliwell - eggs, 122k, wands

Bek - lamp post, other rares, eggs [/list]

What follows is a visual feast of festival fun for your viewing pleasure. Click on each small image to see a larger version!

<P

2. The parade line was formed and it was time to leave Moonglow through the permanent moon-gate, generously provided by a GM, to Britain. 5. Once everyone was clean out of goods and money, it was time for the Bunny Bash. Green thorns were handed out freely, and participants began planting them in unison. Within moments the field was full of fast-hopping vorpal bunnies and all chaos insued. Some of the more squeamish festival-goers remained outside the fence, shaking their heads in disapproval over the massive display of small mammel cruelty, however that did not seem to dampen the violence in any way. Bunny Bashers happily collected statues, eggs, weapons and armor. It was a smashing good time!

6. While the bashers occupied, festival coordinators snuck away and began hiding easter eggs as well as some special bags throughout Moonglow. Once all vorpal bunnies had been vanquished, participants raced over the island gathering eggs and looking for the hidden bags. Each bag was to be taken back to the Moonglow bank, with the lucky finder receiving a special prize.

Winners of the Easter Egg Hunt:
Grand prize of +5 stat scroll, candles and other nice goodies: Beldin Brightaxe
Winners of 100k each: Pan Arcane, ZEUS, Taste of Defeat, Tom DeLonge, and Brad

7. If anyone expected things to settle down after the bashing and racing, then they don't know BOD Swappers very well! BOD collectors had the opportunity to wheel and deal with each other for sought after deeds. Negotiations were intense, and many came away with just what they needed to complete that LBOD they'd been waiting for.

8. Next was the Net Toss, a deceptively gentle term for what was about to occur! Boats were formed into a square, and then participants were gated on board. The first few minutes were like the calm before a storm. Then the nets, provided to each adventurous sailor by the coordinators, were tossed at once into the depths of the ocean. The water began to boil, and soon all manner of angry sea creatures were dead set on having the festival-goers for lunch.

9. The grand finale of the festival began with the quite gruesome discover of a corpse in the streets of northwest Moonglow. The victim - one Bugs Bunny. Participants discovered a note and a murder weapon on the victim. The threatening note blamed him for causing someones child support to be late, and the weapon was marked with the name Porky Pig.

10. Investigators soon spotted "A Courier" at the Moonglow Inn. It was quickly determined that this messenger indeed delivered the note to the deceased, but he insisted the victim was still very much alive at the time. After being paid the gold he requested, he indicated he was hired to deliver the note by a bad man dressed in a dark hooded robe who was from the dead land.

11. Assuming the name on the murder weapon referenced a blacksmith, Porky Pig was located in Occlo. Investigators grilled him, figuratively speaking, about the dagger used to murder Bugs. He admitted to making the poisoned weapon, and eventually confessed that he did sell it to a nasty man in a dark hooded robe, calling him "forsaken" and "outcast". 12. It was time to track down the outcast who was believed responsible for the demise of Bugs Bunny. A suspicious character in a hooded shroud called "The Damned" was spotted in Felucca, and was heard to shout, "That pig has betrayed me!" That pretty much gave him away. A mad pursuit ensued, with investigators attempting to surround the suspect. It seems he was a fairly quick fellow, as it took several minutes to lock him down. After a bit of violence involving the death of some of the investigators, the questioning began. As it turned out, The Damned was also somewhat of a weenie, as he spilled his guts pretty easily for fear of being sent to jail. Seems he was hired by a woman to kill Bugs. He did not know her name, but was scheduled to meet her that very night at Finest Alchemy in an island city.

13. Discovering that Finest Alchemy is in Moonglow where the mystery began, investigators quickly returned there to trap the woman The Damned was to meet there. Belladonna was spotted hiding in the shop and the mob detained her, demanding an explanation. She confessed to hiring The Damned to kill Bugs, stating that Bugs had killed Nutty at a rabbit fight contest. As a result, she would not receive the money promised to her by Nutty for the child support, and she lost her home. The crowd herded her back to the Moonglow bank where the remainder of the participants awaited the results of the investigation. Belladonna was given a good fussing at, and Rose Red was rewarded for being the first one to locate the murderer with a prize of 200k and a powder of fortifying.

And so ended the Moonglow Spring Festival 2004!

[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_040304.jpg" WIDTH="375" HEIGHT="291" ALIGN="RIGHT" VSPACE="5" HSPACE="10[/image]If you were not in Moonglow the beautiful afternoon of April 3, 2004, you missed a history-making event. <SPAN CLASS="high">The Moonglow Spring Festival</SPAN> provided five glorious hours of fun, fellowship, commerce, adventure and even mystery to the enthusiastic participants. There is no doubt that this amazing day will go down in the annals of Lake Austin history as the first and largest event of its kind to grace our young shard. We can only hope that there will be many more to come! <P>Sincerest thanks are due to the Lake Austin Festival Coordinators, <SPAN CLASS="dark">Aurora Stuart</SPAN>, <SPAN CLASS="dark">Rose Cotton</SPAN> and <SPAN CLASS="dark">Nutty Professor</SPAN>. Many hopped on over to the Wal Mart auction to continue the socializing, while another large group headed over to Doom for a run through the Gauntlet!</P> <P>The coordinators would like to thank the Lake Austin crafters and BOD swappers who participated in the Flea Market and BOD Swap, and Belshazzar for recruiting people to the flea market as well. In addition they wished to thank the following for their donations to the Festival:</P>
[*]Ariana - Eggs [*]Kylie - Nets [*]Shiloh - Nets [*]Cristina - Eggs [*]Gazza of CHA - Eggs [*]Boochie and Willie of KGB - books, powder of fortifying [*]Belsambar &amp; UMP guild - 500k [*]Elves of Lorien - 100k, robe, rose, wand [*]Tremere - big chest of stuff (house minis, power scrolls, rares, gifts) [*]Phoebe Halliwell - eggs, 122k, wands [*]Bek - lamp post, other rares, eggs [/list] <P>What follows is a visual feast of festival fun for your viewing pleasure. <SPAN CLASS="dark"><B>Click on each small image to see a larger version!</B></SPAN></P> <TABLE BORDER="0" CELLSPACING="0" CELLPADDING="10" ALIGN="CENTER"> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_01_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]</P> <P>1. As excited festival-goers began to gather in Moonglow, free raffle tickets were randomly distributed, and fireworks wands were provided to all. Soon the sky was filled with fireworks and shouts of "Happy Festival Day!!" The guild DiE made a most striking impression, with matching uniforms and a brigade of mighty fire steeds. </P> <P</P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_02_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image][image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_03_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0" HSPACE="10[/image]</P> <P ALIGN="LEFT">2. The parade line was formed and it was time to leave Moonglow through the permanent moon-gate, generously provided by a GM, to Britain. They marched around the Britain bank, shouting greetings to bystanders, then through another gate to Luna, and finally to Skara Brae, before returning to Moonglow to proceed with the festivities.</P> <P ALIGN="LEFT"></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_04_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]</P> <P>3. Following the parade, the raffle prizes were given away to several lucky winners. Beldin Brightaxe was actually seen jumping up and down upon hearing his number called. This was only moments after muttering that he never won anything.</P> <P></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_05_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]</P> <P>4. The area behind the Moonglow bank quickly became a bartering center as citizens bought, sold and traded their wares. Items advertised included weapons and armor, resources, rares, house plots, and even accounts.</P> <P></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_06_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image][image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_07_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0" HSPACE="10[/image]</P> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_08_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]<BR> </P> <P>5. It was a smashing good time!</P> <P></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_09_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image][image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_10_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0" HSPACE="10[/image]</P> <P>6. </P> <P>Winners of the Easter Egg Hunt:<BR> Grand prize of +5 stat scroll, candles and other nice goodies: Beldin Brightaxe<BR> Winners of 100k each: Pan Arcane, ZEUS, Taste of Defeat, Tom DeLonge, and Brad</P> <P></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_11_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]</P> <P>7. If anyone expected things to settle down after the bashing and racing, then they don't know BOD Swappers very well! BOD collectors had the opportunity to wheel and deal with each other for sought after deeds. Negotiations were intense, and many came away with just what they needed to complete that LBOD they'd been waiting for.</P> <P></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_12_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image][image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_13_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0" HSPACE="10[/image]</P> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_14_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]</P> <P>8. The water began to boil, and soon all manner of angry sea creatures were dead set on having the festival-goers for lunch.</P> <P></P> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <P ALIGN="CENTER">[image]http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/lakeaustin/la_springfestival_15_040304_sm.jpg" WIDTH="175" HEIGHT="154" BORDER="0[/image]</P> <P>9. I contacted El. and she graciously sent over as much as she could find of the older Lake Austin documents.

This thread will contain a lot of stuff, not even remotely in Chronological order. Note that most of the web pages and emails referenced in these stories are probably long defunct.

No word yet on anyone recovering any of the official Event Moderator event reports as yet.

An Interview with Blade_ThugLuv

A Transplant from Napa Valley Tells His Story

I recently met and spent some time talking to Blade_ThugLuv who I think has a very interesting background and great stories to tell. I would like all of you to meet him too! Blade came about a year ago to LA over from Napa Valley where he had a long and distinguished career from 2001 onward. Arriving with HWM last year Blade has stayed on as a member of VaMp and recently distinguished himself by winning the Player PvP tournament at the Redwood City EA Townhall. To celebrate the win and subsequent vanquishing he received from the EA Developer, Serado, Blade has named a character after the event. Blade_ThugLuv bases himself out of a lovely resupply station near the Yew Fel Moongate.

First Some Personal Questions:

1. When did you begin playing UO?

Some Friends of Mine got me into UO in the beginning of 2001.

2. When did you start playing on LA?

I started Playing on LA around August or September of 2005. I came over with HWM to fight Vamp.

3. What are/were the name(s) of your main character(s)?

My Main Chars are The CIA (Crafter), Blade The Guy Who Got OWNED By Serado, Blade, Blade, Thug Luv, Z E R O, Blade. Those are my mains.

4. Would you like to tell us a little about yourself personally?

Im normally happy go lucky and tend to be very open honest and kind.

5. Do you/Did you run any "establishments" on the shard?

On Napa Valley Shard I Ran one of the largest alliances and the largest Tamers guild. I started NTU (Napa Tamers Union) because I felt Tamers should have a guild of their own. NTU was allied with THO (The Holy Order) which was a all paladins guild, ICI (IDOC Crew Inc.) which did a lot of IDOC’s, NTUA (Napa Tamers Union Allies) Which was a guild of mainly Crafters. DOS (Defenders of Sosaria) one of the First Guilds I was in. TU (Tamers Union) was a guild of many player types including tamers. TAS (True Adventure Seekers) one of the oldest guilds on Napa, GRBD (Girls Roll Boys Drool) An all girl Guild ICP (Insane Clown Posse).

Im sure I missed 1 or 2 guilds from the alliance. We had a lot of fun and did a lot of events and other activities.

6. Do you/Did you belong to any guilds or groups that you care to mention?

I am currently a Member of VaMp but have been the GM of NTUA NTU, Co-GM of DOS a member of THO, ICI, TAS C^S HWM T^E VvV all from Napa. Came over to la with T^E and HWM.

7. If you have gone "on vacation" from UO… when was it, why, and for how long?

If you mean quit UO I have quit UO 3 times. The First time was for about 9 months in 2002. second time was for 4 months in 2004 and the third time was for 2 weeks in 2006.

8. What "style" of play has been your main one or favorite?

I am really liking PvP at this point but who knows may go back to PvM one day.

9. What do you think makes a "good" UO player?

Respectful, Honest, Loyal to friends, willing to help others when needed. Stands up for their beliefs, doesn’t use cheats hacks exploits or other means to gain an edge.

10. What do you like the most about UO? Has this attracted you to start playing or stay with the game?

I like the never ending game play. The people you meet along the path of UO and the whole other life outside of real life.

11. What do you not like the most in UO? Has this caused you to actually leave the game?

People not getting to know me and putting me down. Accusing me of hacking or cheating when I have never ever cheated or hacked in UO. I have quit 2 times over this.

12. How would you like to see UO develop to help people stay interested and involved and/or attract new players?

I'm not sure, I think the Dev. Team is doing a great job and I just hope they keep up the good work. I will keep playing no matter what they do.

13. If you could create "the perfect" UO game…. what would it be like?

The UO game I play now minus the scripters, hackers, cheats, and trash talking.

Reminiscing:

1. What was your favorite "era" in UO to date?

That’s hard for me to say I have liked all them. They all brought something into UO that I liked while they all had things I didn’t. I just like UO as a whole.

2. How do you think UO has developed and changed since you started with it?

I think it has made a number of leaps and bounds.

3. What other players on Lake Austin do/do you particularly enjoy going up against and/or hunting with?

I like hanging out with my guild members in VaMp and XTC. I enjoy going on hunts with Old HWM members when the time comes up from time to time. The players that have helped to keep me in the game over the last few months are Aura (VaMp) G-Force, Nuggysmurf (VaMp), Frost (VaMp or XTC don’t recall lol) and I enjoy fighting Rocky and Eggplant. It gives me the chance to enhance my PvPing skills. They are very good at PvP and I haven’t been able to beat them yet although I will keep trying.

4. Are there/Were there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you were particularly engaged with and against?

VaMP/XTC/PoKE/Ez$ vs. BAM/DSR/DSRW/DSRM/++PK/TBA/NST/EH?

5. Can you recount a specially memorable event?

My most memorable event in UO would be when I entered the PvP turny at EA in Redwood City. I won 1st place and got a chance to duel Serado. Serado beat me but it was a very fun time and I was happy to have made it as far as I did.

6. Were you one of the early LA players? If so, what was LA like for you when it was a young shard?

No, I didn’t make it to LA till 2005.

8. Is there anything else you'd like to add?

The Old NTU Alliance Guild hall/museum still stands in East Brit on Napa shard although the Museum is closed it still stands as a reminder to all who remember.

PvP-Specific Questions:

1. Are/Were you a PvP player exclusively or do/did you have other interests in the game as well?

I PvP, PvM, Spawn, craft…you name it if its UO I do it.

2. What kind of PvP activities (spawns, dueling, raids, being "red," protecting your resources gathered, etc.) do you like the most?

I would have to say I like being red best. I don’t have to be worried about going red if I kill a blue because I am already red.

3. Do you role-play as a PvP player? If so, what kind and how do you approach it?

I haven’t role played in UO since I Left Napa shard.

4. What was your favorite PvP "era" in UO to date?

Hard to say I have only been PvPing for under a year now.

5. What do you think makes a "good" PvP player?

Being able to hold their own. Not trash talking. No using cheats hacks or exploits. Not playing and Archer or at least being able to play a mage.

6. How do you think PvP has developed and changed since you started with it in UO?

In many ways… to many to list *Laughs*

7. What major aspects of PvP do you find that are GOOD in UO?

Hard to say really.

8. What major aspects of PvP do you find that are NOT GOOD in UO?

Guard zones around the gate. 20 Blues hiding in guards then all attacking 1 red and no other red can help their friend out because they will get guard wacked.

9. What players do you think are/were particularly memorable in your experience?

Foosucker was one of the best Dexxers I knew. Chocolate Philly also up there on Dexxers. Heather played a Mean Mage and so did Fizzle.

10. Were there/Are there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you were particularly engaged with and against?

The list grows every day *Laughs*

11. How would you like to see PvP in the LA Community given the current game rules and game play… what would you suggest would help people stay interested and involved?

I guess the way it is but with a bit more honor and less trash talk.

12. If you could create "the perfect" PvP game…. what would it be like?

Theres really no perfect PvP game because whats Perfect to one isn’t to another.

13. Are you going to work with the Dev Team on the PvP test shard as they undergo the PvP rebalancing?

Yes, I love to see what the Dev. Team puts out and have feed back in the changes.

14. Is there anything else you would like to add?

If I kill you in Fel it doesn’t mean I hate you or hold anything against you. Im just playing my part of the game. If you meet me in Trammel or Malas you will see I'm really nice.

Well, I can vouch for that, Blade! Thanks for the great interview! You can find other personal and guild interviews on the LA Main Newspage along with special monthly "Spotlight" articles and features not found on the forum. Check it out HERE.

Reviewed by Evangeline, UOSS Lake Austin News Reporter

On Friday, June 2nd, I had the pleasure of attending the preview opening of Ice Lodge Entertainment's Casino. Attendees were invited after the auction at Ice Cove was over and the Casino is located conveniently just south (about 2 screens) of the very familiar Ice Cove Auction house.

I discovered the casino is a great way to have some fun and the staff was very good at keeping the players entertained. A few days later, I was able to talk with Casino Boss about the establishment. He told me that he is the manager and that they got the idea for the establishment from a casino on Legends. They are using the same format as games used there.

The main game that is played is a dice game that I found rather interesting. Bets are placed in a chest on the counter and the dice are rolled. What you roll depends on whether you win or lose. Even roll loses, odd roll wins and rolling a 7 gets you a bonus round. The bonus round allows you 3 chances to move forward towards a win of 1 million in gold!

They also have chess, mahjong and darts available, as well as a lottery vendor that has keys that may lead to you winning 25k in gold.

On the first floor you will find a stable for your mounts, a bartender to sate your thirst, the lottery vendor, darts and the board games. There is a large fireplace and it has a cozy lodge atmosphere.

After you go up the stairs to the second floor you come to the main dice game area. There are benches for players to wait turns or just to chat and watch the action. On this level there is also an ATM vendor so you don't have to run to the bank for checks to play with.

The overall atmosphere is one of a lovely mountain lodge with warmth and abounding with friendliness and fun.

Hours for the Casino are 8 pm to 10 pm Central every Thursday. As they grow, they intend to be open more hours and days. Do go visit them.

Thanks to Casino Boss for talking with me about this fun establishment.

My Interview with the GM of The Killika Clan
We all have to start somewhere with interviews here's mine with the GM of The Killika Clan

A: The Killika Clan, TKC

Q: Who is the Guild Leader of this guild?

A: Lord Mykillika

Q: Do you have Emissaries or a War Leader? If so, who are they?

A: BigPete is our War Lord. We have 2 Emissaries, Lord Smedley and Lord Lakillie

Q: Do you have any other "offices" in the guild such as an Events Coordinator, Treasurer, or other jobs that you would like to be known?

A: TKC Paladins are specially trained, it take alot of time and training to gain the rank of Paladin within our guild.

Q: Are you affiliated/allied with any other guilds? If so, what is the name of the alliance?

A: Although we have no alliance with no one guild. We do have non-agression pacts with many guilds.

A: TKC was first organized in 2002 ""in UO that is"", not on any other shards as of yet.

Q: How many members (individuals, not characters) do you have in the guild?

A: approx. 15

Q: Do you have any special structure for the members of the guild such as membership levels, new member status, or ranks?

A: No.

Q: What "playstyle" is the main interest of this guild and its members? Is it a warring guild, PVP guild, PVM guild, or Crafting guild?

Q: What sets your guild apart from the other guilds on LA?

A: Our high standards for our Paladins. If you see a TKC member who is ranked as Paladin of TKC, this title has been worked for. It's not a title just handed out.

Q: What in your opinion is the best aspect of your guild that gives you the most fun and satisfaction?

A: We respect and trust one another. What more can you ask for from a guildmate.

Q: Do you have any requirements for membership in the guild? If so, what are they?

A: yes, first, you must have a sponser. and no neg. karma people. "read the books at the guild house :) "

Q: Do you have any expected duties of membership in the guild? If so, please describe them?

A: None to normal members

Q: Do you have regular meetings of the guild?

A: yes.

Q: If someone wants to join your guild how to do they go about it? What is the process?

A: if you dont know anyone in the guild to get them to sponser you. Then you would have to go see one of our 2 Emissaries.

Q: Do you have a website?

A: http://home.insightbb.com/~thekillikaclan

Q: How does someone contact your guild?

A: [email protected]

We at the Killika Clan would like to thank Frost for taking the time to share our guild with everyone. Take care, and safe travels.

Meet the LA Guilds: 20 questions for LCL

Always nice to see all sides of the shard. Here is the hard-working one.

Q: What is the Name and Abbreviation of your guild?

A: LCL – Legendary Crafters of Lake Austin

Q: Who is the Guild Leader of this guild?

A: Scrag the Smithy

Q: Do you have Emissaries or a War Leader? If so, who are they?

A: Blazehammer, Dashiva, and Mule

Q: Do you have any other "offices" in the guild such as an Events Coordinator, Treasurer, or other jobs that you would like to be known?

A: No

Q: Are you affiliated/allied with any other guilds? If so, what is the name of the alliance?

A: No – we try to remain as neutral as possible when dealing with other guilds.

Q: What is your guild's mission statement?

A: The guild was created initially as a way for people to meet other people who were interested in trading BODs. We wanted to create a network of BOD traders who could trust each other when dealing with BODs. The guild initially grew when folks would join the guild and then bring a friend whom they had traded BODs with in the past into the guild. Our primary focus is and will always be BOD collecting and trading.

Q: When was this guild first organized and are you on any other shards?

A: The guild was started approximately 2 and a half years ago. The guild does not really trade BODs on other shards, although many of the Guildmates do have runners on several other shards. We usually bring whatever bods we gather on other shards to the Lake Austin shard.

Q: How many members (individuals, not characters) do you have in the guild?

A: We have approximately 30 individuals in the guild.

Q: Do you have any special structure for the members of the guild such as membership levels, new member status, or ranks?

A: LCL does not have any special ranking of Guildmates. There usually is no need to make a new guildmate go through a trial period, as almost all new Guildmates come recommended from current Guildmates.

Q: Is this a faction guild? If so, please state your affiliation.

A: Our mules will destroy all factions that oppose us with our hammers and sewing kits. Beware.

Q: What "playstyle" is the main interest of this guild and its members? Is it a warring guild, PVP guild, PVM guild, or Crafting guild?

A:LCL is a BOD trading guild first and a crafting guild second.

Q: What are the main activities sponsored by the guild?

A: We've held a few auctions now which have had live barbed kit crafting. We mum "borrowed" the idea from a guildmate Christian Door who used to hold the same type of auction in the past. Basically we hold the auction and have 3-4 barbed kits ready to go. Folks at the auction will shout out what piece they'd like us to craft, and we'll burn a charge from the kit. Whatever is created, we'll place on the table and folks are allowed to bid on it. Sometimes Lady Luck is with us and we make some amazing pieces! (sometimes Lady Luck sleeps in)

Q: What sets your guild apart from the other guilds on LA?

A: I believe LCL is the only guild that's involved with trading BODs on LA. Q: What in your opinion is the best aspect of your guild that gives you the most fun and satisfaction?

Q: What in your opinion is the best aspect of your guild that gives you the most fun and satisfaction?

A: We also have some of the most dedicated Guildmates that I've ever worked with. When situations arise in the guild (which rarely happens), everyone in the guild will work together to resolve them.

Q: Do you have any requirements for membership in the guild? If so, what are they?

A: If you're an active BOD trader and you're looking for some folks to trade with, consider joining the guild. The only requirement is to try and be active within the guild.

Q: Do you have any expected duties of membership in the guild? If so, please describe them?

A: See above.

Q: Do you have regular meetings of the guild?

A: In the past, we would have BOD swap meetings, where we'd sit around a table and go around it, each guildmate shouting out two or three BODs that they really need. We'd then check our BOD books and see if anyone had the BOD that they need. Some of the Guildmates however just had too many BODs to bring to the meetings so instead we'd start scheduling times to meet and just use the chat window in UO (I think we're one of the few folks that have actually used the chat window in UO). Guildmates would stay at home with their BODs and people would send out request in the chat window and we'd all check it. The meetings have died off a little, but hopefully we'll have them back up and running soon.

Q: If someone wants to join your guild how to do they go about it? What is the process?

A: Contact any guildmate and let them know that you're interested in trading BODs. That's it!

Q: Do you have a website?

A: No

Q: How does someone contact your guild?

A: Feel free to send me an ICQ 319966812. Or look for any guildmate with the LCL tag behind their name. We're usually hanging around Luna.

I would like to thank Scrag for taking the time to fill this out for me.

Meet the LA Guilds: 20 questions for the Midnight Hunters' Club [MHC]

A true leader on the shard, Tycolby is the GM of a PvM guild that faithfully has run at least one public shard hunt a day for the last several years, and often runs two or three hunts in a day, particularly on weekends. Tycolby oversees this frenzy of activity in a calm and reserved manner that amazes many around him! It can reasonably be said that MHC is one of the more open guilds on LA and is a great group for anyone to join up and hunt with. Many people automatically think of MHC and their regular 8:00 p.m. US Central Time hunts if any new player walks up and asks where they can join up with a group at.

Here is Tycolby giving us all the low-down on his pride and joy, the Midnight Hunters Club.

Q: What is the Name and Abbreviation of your guild?
A: Midnight Hunters Club MHC

Q: Who is the Guild Leader of this guild?
A: Wild Bill is the over all Leader of MHC but we do have a council that takes care of most things that goes on in the guild.

Q: Do you have Emissaries or a War Leader? If so, who are they?
A: Yes we have Emissaries. They are Alaric Dragon, Keria, Sir Welatin, Mylene, Felana, and Cinder Stonewal. We have no war leaders as we do not PvP.

Q: Do you have any other “offices” in the guild such as an Events Coordinator, Treasurer, or other jobs that you would like to be known?
A: No other jobs just the council.

Q: Are you affiliated/allied with any other guilds? If so, what is the name of the alliance?
A: Legion of Sosaria

Q: What is your guild’s mission statement?
A: Try to make everyday fun and rewarding.

Q: When was this guild first organized and are you on any other shards?
A: The first meeting of Midnight hunters was around Oct 23rd 2004 and yes we have branched off to other shards. Think Great lakes has an order there too.

Q: How many members (individuals, not characters) do you have in the guild?
A: When I last checked we have 40 ppl in the guild.

Q: Do you have any special structure for the members of the guild such as membership levels, new member status, or ranks?
A: We ask ppl to hunt with us for a week or so to see how they react to our members. If they show the qualities that we like then we allow them to join and have Ronin status for a month then its usually full membership within a month.

Q: Is this a faction guild? If so, please state your affiliation.
A: No.

Q: What “playstyle” is the main interest of this guild and its members? Is it a warring guild, PVP guild, PVM guild, Roleplaying, or Crafting guild?
A: MHC will always be a PvM guild with a strong core of highly trained crafters to support our members.

Q: What are the main activities sponsored by the guild?
A: Hunts, any kind of hunts.

Q: What sets your guild apart from the other guilds on LA?
A: What makes MHC different is our way of splitting the loot with all in the hunting party. Our members fully trust everyone not to withhold any quality loot from each other. we all collect gold and split it at the end. We also roll for all major finding in the loot like marties and arties and ingreds. We never have to drop party for personal loot, we all make sure everyone who helped gets something.

Q: What in your opinion is the best aspect of your guild that gives you the most fun and satisfaction?
A: The way our members go out of their way to help ppl.

Q: Do you have any requirements for membership in the guild? If so, what are they?
A: Don't mind dying alot, like to help ppl, and must like to have fun.

Q: Do you have any expected duties of membership in the guild? If so, please describe them?
A: All hunters are expected to follow guild rules and xheal team mates and help fellow alliance members.

Q: Do you have regular meetings of the guild?
A: Most meetings are discussed over our forums.

Q: If someone wants to join your guild how to do they go about it? What is the process?
A: Find any member and ask them to contact a council member and we will take care of the rest.

Q: Q: Do you have a website?
A: No we dont have a website but we do have a forum site for members.

Q: Q: How does someone contact your guild?
A: ICQ me if you have questions #291 314 053

Thanks Tycolby! If you want to meet the MHC guild you can always find them at 8:00 p.m. every evening gathering just North of West Britain Bank at Lord British's castle to hunt.

A LA Player's History: Pacem

Posted by: EvangelineUONews, UO Shard Reporter
Post Date: 6-12-06

I had the pleasure of meeting with Pacem. He holds bible study classes/discussions weekly at his Lake Austin Church. I asked him some questions that will hopefully let everyone on Lake Austin know him a little better.

A Few Questions for Pacem

How long have you been in Sosaria and what drew you to our world?

I'm a 5½ year vet. I originally came to know this world through a long-ago friend of mine on ICQ that played it way back in the Renaissance days. She suggested I try it and I was hooked. :)

Your character name is Pacem on Lake Austin. What type of character is he?

For a long time he was a tamer/mage and did quite a lot of hunting. He still enjoys taming once in a great while but he's completely retired from hunting and his sole duty now is leading the studies.

After a while, I began to feel the Lord tugging at my heart to reach out to the fellow citizens of Sosaria, but only a year and a half ago did the Lord make it possible :)

What was your best and/or worst experience in your UO life?

My best experience on UO I have to say, is the Lord letting me have the honor of guiding two people to Christ in UO. That pretty much tops the list :)

My worst experience is my testimony, which I wish had never happened, but I have a closer relationship to the Lord now because of it.

Who helped you throughout your journeys and life through Sosaria? Who were your major influences?

Well, as a new character in UO just starting out, I was overwhelmed by the many "facets" of the game. Many kind people have helped me out along the way. My major influences I'd say would have to be the guild leader of the old United Tamers of Britannia guild, who helped me understand skills and how to adjust them for the best results. Recently, others include River, Nightwind and Layna among others. Nightwind and River for their dedication and love for the Lord, and a genuine want to help others.

Are you a member of a guild? If so, which one?

Pacem is the leader of a guild called Crusaiders of Christ (spelled wrong I know :) ) You don't have to join the guild to join the church, just come :)

What is your favorite thing to do in Sosaria?

My absolute favorite? No joke, my all time favorite thing to do in Sosaria is advertise the studies and strike up conversations with people at the various banks about it. I so enjoy an engaging conversation, and even rude people soften up when they find out I'm not so bad after all. hehe

What are your plans for the future?

To have a full church. lol But also...to encourage others to start studies of their own on other shards. I know it's hard coming to a new shard and starting over. I provide quite well btw... But I'm always on the lookout for dedicated Christian men/women to start churches on other shards.

My personal plans are secondary.

If you could change one thing in your Sosaria life, with a wave of the magical wand, what would it be?

Personally, my testimony. I was in a relationship that should never have been, and will never happen again in this earthly life. But looking back, I know the Lord was always there to take me back, like the prodigal son coming home. On the VERY day I came back, God had had things already lined up for me, a very nice person on Austin donated to me the house that is now LA Church, and God has been doing wonders ever since. :)

So, it's because of my walking away from the Lord and coming back, I'm now closer to the Lord than I had ever been before, and I know now what it truly feels like to come back in tears, truly redeemed.

What is the biggest challenge in bringing the church to Lake Austin?

The people. I've had quite a lot of resistance first starting out. I've been called everything you could imagine... missionary, pastor, father... on the other end, Jesus freak and zealot (which I kinda like :p ) and things not appropriate for here. But, there IS a plan, and even through all that people still come. Truly I'm only a servant.

Is there something about you nobody knows?

*thinks* There are many things, but everything is in the Light. :)

What other services do you provide/perform for the citizens of Lake Austin?

With coming to LA for the first time, the church generously provides so each new char can buy up skills and get the supplies they need to establish themselves if they so desire, along with full charged town runebooks thanks to Nightwind. We also provide apartments just south and southeast for folk that need a place to store their things along with the bank. Also, I provide wedding services free of charge (for males and females wishing to be married in game). There's one scheduled for Saturday, June 17th in fact.

Pacem gave me a book that he hands out to people he meets along the way. It's a book titled "Got God?."

I wish to thank Pacem for sharing the information on his Lake Austin Church and his work on the shard..

Sunday Studies are at 9:30 pm Eastern. Location of the Church of Lake Austin is 38o 24'N, 38o 27'W in Malas.

[News] Interview with Toben, Library of Truth
#6686259 - 06/24/06 08:58 AM (71.111.113.219)
Edit post Edit Reply to this post Reply Reply to this post Quote

On Wednesday, June 21, 2006, I had the opportunity and pleasure of visiting with Toben at his very extensive library on Lake Austin. Following is a question and answer session that I feel will give a little more light on this interesting man and his library.

How long have you been playing UO?

For about 4 years or so maybe more.

When did you start playing on LA?

I was here on week one before the shard actually opened to public Toben's account is actually my newbie account I had to use to come here early. I came here from Great Lakes before that..

What are/were the name(s) of your main character(s)?

Toben is my main but I also like to play my archer Felcron a lot also. A chiv stealth archer.

Would you like to tell us a little about yourself personally? (Since this is "reality" it
isn't required)

Well I am 35 years old and played the old Ultlima stand alones since Ultima 6. Ii loved the lore that was in those old games and wish it was represented a little more in UO.

Besides, the library, do you or did you run any other establishments in UO?

I did for a while when the shard first opened I had recalls and more next to the old brigand fort that was named Brigands Den after that now its just the Library of Truth

Do you/Did you belong to any guilds or groups that you care to mention?

Yes I am currently only a member of O*T, but was a member briefly of MHC and I started my own guild, MAGI, that I dropped recently due to lack of interest in it on this shard.

If you have gone "on vacation" from UO when was it, why, and for how long?

Well I sort of had a vacation from UO the first year Austin opened. I was without a
computer for awhile and only played on Sundays for a full year when I went to my Mom's house to visit and use her computer, but that's the closest I ever got to a vacation. lol

What "style" of play has been your main one or favorite?

Well I do a lot of pvm but I have dabbled in pvp and do have an old style thief I like to
dust off from time to time. They are still viable.

What do you think makes a "good" UO player?

An honest one. I also think charity and humility. I like those who try to help others.
There is so much grief in the outside world I don't want to add to it in this virtual world--my vacation world .lol

What do you like the most about UO? Has this attracted you to start playing or stay with
the game?

I have stayed with UO because its so open ended mostly and the people I meet keep me here. I have tried WOW and was put off by it due to the confined feeling I got playing it. What other game could I have a library in?

What do you NOT like the most in UO?

Dupers is the big one. I also don't like folks who put other play styles down. If its been
designed to do in this game, I believe that play style is just as valid as the next.

How would you like to see UO develop to help people stay interested and involved and/or
attract new players?

Wow that's a big one. I would like to see more shard identity. Austin is different than say Great lakes and should reflect that with special monuments or fairgrounds etc. also...I think I would like to see more old folks like us step up and do events to get others interested. I am planning one soon I hope.

If you could create "the perfect" UO game. what would it be like?

It would be this game with better graphics and giving crafters a real since of purpose. Right now I don't feel they do. Remember the days when you ran around in gm armor and thought you were "it"? I miss that.

What was LA like for you when it was a young?

I remember working my butt off with my brother Nystul trying to save up for two 2-story
villas. One for me and one for him. Our first we ever owned. Once we got the house it changed us. We were home; this was our home. Oh and folks like Crazy Joe.

Let me ask you a bit about the library itself...
What gave you the idea to start the library?

Well I was thinking of making a huge resource house like the "Great Library" in ancient
times....a sum of all of our knowledge and collect it in one place I am still on that kick of doing that it means a lot of shard hopping.

What makes your library stand out from the others?

I think its just that...I ask all librarians before I copy any of there books if I could
share with them. I add to there's and they add to mine. Wizzie's is a good example. A lot of books came from her and we icq each other when either of us make a new book. She has contributed to mine and I have to CJ's. Also I have contributed to the Black Rune Library on Great Lakes by a rune or two and have on Legends at the old Runes To Go place now owned by Wish.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your library or you?

Just that it will never be done and that anyone that stops by needs to realize that it's the work of a lot of libraries that gave me permission to copy their material and they are my partners in my mind. And a special note that I consider Goodman the granddaddy of us
all. Sort of my patron saint. He lost his life about a year ago and I wish I could tell him that. I appreciate what he did for all shards.

Maybe he's watching and he knows

And also to any would-be librarians out there feel free to mark what you want this is about sharing ideas I just may knock on your door asking to borrow a rune of yours. lol

Thank you for your time, Toben. It's nice to get to know you and learn more about your library.

Thank you so much for doing the interview. Oh, if I may add, I love being in the O*T and we help a lot of new folks. If anyone knows anyone that would like assistance in making a home on this shard or new to game I am always willing to help.

Below are screenies of the different floors at the library. It is quite extensive and the roof had a nice graphic along with lots of statues. Nicely done library and quite easy to find what you need.

Bringing you all the Lake Austin News that's fit to print.

Meet the LA Players: Xenon of DSR

Xenon is the proud owner of the newest auction house on the shard, The DSR Auction house that puts on its auction every Monday at 7:00 p.m. Central US Time (GMT –6). The auction house is located just outside and a little North of the Luna West Gate. In addition, Xenon has a neighboring house that serves as a Museum! I wanted to find out more about the person who set these houses up, so here is my interview with Xenon of DSR.

First Some Personal Questions:

When did you begin playing UO?

I started playing UO about 7 - 8 years ago on Napa Valley.

When did you start playing on LA?

I started on LA about a year ago when HWM came over here from Napa.

What are/were the name(s) of your main character(s)?

Xenon, JRW, Darkenlore, Saturn to name a few.

Would you like to tell us a little about yourself personally?

I'm a guy who likes to have fun :p

Do you/Did you run any "establishments" on the shard?

I have a museum and I own and help run the DSR auction house along with Jazz and Diggs.

Do you/Did you belong to any guilds or groups that you care to mention?

I was emissary in HWM/WOD and now im in DSR.

If you have gone "on vacation" from UO… when was it, why, and for how long?

I took about a month or two off from UO. Most of my old friends left the game and I was getting tired of the exploits in UO. It was during my time on LA.

If you are not currently playing… do you intend to return?

I am an active player with nine open accounts. Going to sell a few anyone looking for one lol ?

What "style" of play has been your main one or favorite?

I pretty much have every kind of char in game. Right now I mainly do peerless and run venders and an auction house.

What do you think makes a "good" UO player?

Someone with integrity. Whether its helping new players or not abusing game mechanics.

What do you like the most about UO? Has this attracted you to start playing or stay with the game?

I enjoy the friends I've made over the years. I mainly stayed because of them. I enjoy the game and have alot invested too much to just up and go.

What do you not like the most in UO? Has this caused you to actually leave the game?

I don't like the cheaters. Scripting has ruined UO's economy and PVP.

How would you like to see UO develop to help people stay interested and involved and/or attract new players?

UO needs to attract new players. In game events help, fixing the exploits that have been Plaguing UO for years. I think the way the game will grow is from the community standpoint. That in game bonding per say.

If you could create "the perfect" UO game…. what would it be like?

I wish they would mix it up. The good points from all the expansions in one including pre UOR.

Reminiscing:

What was your favorite "era" in UO to date?

Pre AOS was my favorite time in UO. The game was skill based not item based as it is today.

How do you think UO has developed and changed since you started with it?

In some respects it has become worst and in some its become better. I think they have seen the error in their ways and are making steps to correct the errors. Remember the days of cutting bandaids one at a time??

What other players on Lake Austin do/do you particularly enjoy going up against and/or hunting with?

In PvP I enjoy hunting Vamp. It has been very profitable. :p In hunting I hunt with Korin, Foxy, Anastasa Rose, a bunch of the DSR members. We do a ton of peerless. Korin is the Legendary Keymaster on LA hands down the best.

Are there/Were there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you were particularly engaged with and against?

On Napa there was KDL LIE SON a bunch too many to name. On LA I was with HWM when I came over and enjoyed the people from DSR. When my guild left that's why I joined DSR.

Can you recount a specially memorable event?

Probably when I tamed my first dragon many moons ago.

Were you one of the early LA players? If so, what was LA like for you when it was a young shard?

I wasn't one of the early ones on the shard. I made a char here when it opened but never developed him. My guild on Napa was going to PvP here but only like 5 or 6 started a char here. If my memory is correct I don't think char transfer was available back then. The char name was gremlin and we all made one here but changed the letter in the spelling to a capitol letter to stand out somewhat. IE Gremlin gRemlin GremLin

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I'm glad I came to LA made a bunch of new friends. I'm also glad the shard has alot of mature people as well.

PvP-Specific Questions:

Are/Were you a PvP player exclusively or do/did you have other interests in the game as well?

When I started playing UO I was on 56k. I did very little PvP. When I started getting better equipment that's when I started getting into PvP.

What kind of PvP activities (spawns, dueling, raids, being "red," protecting your resources gathered, etc.) do you like the most?

Spawns are my favorite. Don't like duels that much. I can duel on my dexxer but I'm admittedly not good on a mage. loved playing my red she has over 1000 kills but I don't play her much since the archery nerf.

What was your favorite PvP "era" in UO to date?

Pre-AOS I'd say this game has become about how much money you have not about how skillful you are.

What do you think makes a "good" PvP player?

Someone that can back there stuff up.

How do you think PvP has developed and changed since you started with it in UO?

For the worst. Its item based and full of hackers and exploits.

What major aspects of PvP do you find that are GOOD in UO?

I like the field fights. I enjoy the competition.

What major aspects of PvP do you find that are NOT GOOD in UO?

All the people who think they're good when they need or use the exploits and 3rd party programs to win. Simply if your good why do you need them?

What players do you think are/were particularly memorable in your experience?

Tell you the truth it was Vamp. It was a good feeling coming out of the Yew gate and seeing them go into the gate house that wolf owns because they knew I was going to drop them.

Were there/Are there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you were particularly engaged with and against?

When I was in HWM I enjoyed Porthose and Charles gate fighting with us at Yew gate. It was fun :p

How would you like to see PvP in the LA Community given the current game rules and game play… what would you suggest would help people stay interested and involved?

By getting rid of the 3rd party programs and hackers. PVP is full of speedhacking and easyuo scripts.

If you could create "the perfect" PvP game…. what would it be like?

Everyone would be on a level playing field.

Are you going to work with the Dev Team on the PvP test shard as they undergo the PvP rebalancing?

Probably not I work 50 hours a week and have alot going on in my personal life right now.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I think UO is a great game. Back when I started it was the only game of its kind. It attracted so many players. With competition now and people getting frustrated over the cheats and stuff the player base has dropped significantly. Hope they get back on track to attract the new players.

Did you ever play factions?

I played factions for the first year it came out.

If so, tell me about your experiences doing it.

I was in Shadowlords on Napa when they first came out. I very much enjoyed the 2 hour base wars for the sigs. Hands down the best part of it. Now adays its a 5 min battle in PvP and its over.

What was good and bad about it?

I didn't like the 20 min stat loss.

Did you find the organization too strict or too lax for creative, vibrant play?

Was too strict back then it has become better but needs alot of work still.

Do you think factions can be revived?

Yes !!!! Right now its all about the faction vendors that's the only reason anyone does factions.

What kind of scenario could be built in Felucca to bring some really good competition into the field?

I would love to see a town in Fel become something like capture the flag and have the 2 hour fight.

Anything else you would like to add on this topic?

PVP is getting better but needs alot of work. Making it skilled base is a good start. When its item based as it is today how can new players compete? That isn't attracting new players to PvP in UO.

Thanks for interviewing for my historical player series, Xenon. For all the articles in this series check out the LA Main Newspage for a link to player interviews, or click this link: LA Player Interviews

Meet the LA Guilds: 20 questions for XTC
The return of a great up and coming pvp guild
Here is the interview with their GM
Image hosting by Photobucket

Q: What is the Name and Abbreviation of your guild?

A: XTC, Extacy

Q: Who is the Guild Leader of this guild?

A: Meleagrance AKA KiMarhi Scrible

Q: Do you have Emissaries or a War Leader? If so, who are they?

A: I have no warlords but quite a few emissaries. The main emissaries are Mishka, Isopropyl, Mirror. Others have the rank, but Id say those 3 are my right hand mates.

Q: Do you have any other "offices" in the guild such as an Events Coordinator, Treasurer, or other jobs that you would like to be known?

A: We are strictly a pvp, spawn guild. Some of the original XTC members thought we would get back on LA since it has always been our home. Most of us have tamers, dexxers, etc. to explore other areas of Britannia. We always fall back on pvp.

Q: Are you affiliated/allied with any other guilds? If so, what is the name of the alliance?

A: No we are not an allied guild. We have some unofficial no fight friends of old but for the most part we just fight who we wish.

Q: What is your guild’s mission statement?

A: We really don’t have one. We are a bunch of friends who have played UO for Id say anywhere from 2-4 years together. So for a statement Id have to go with "We kill, We get killed and we laugh about it in the end. We are here to play with friends and have fun doing it"

Q: When was this guild first organized and are you on any other shards?

A: We have members across a lot of shards, Pacific, Chesapeake, Legends, Catskills, Origin. We were first organized about 2 years ago and most of us came from the prior well known LA guild JAM.

Q: How many members (individuals, not characters) do you have in the guild?

A: I’d say right now tops 10 total but 5-7 active.

Q: Do you have any special structure for the members of the guild such as membership levels, new member status, or ranks?

A: If your not an old friend your not an emissary. Other than that we are all members. We do not do ranks or titles, but we do have a little more structure in pvp as far as target calling and such.

Q: Is this a faction guild? If so, please state your affiliation.

A: No we are not affiliated with factions

Q: What "playstyle" is the main interest of this guild and its members? Is it a warring guild, PVP guild, PVM guild, or Crafting guild?

A: pvp for sure. Always been a felucca based guild

Q: What are the main activities sponsored by the guild?

A: Spawns and fighting where we can.

Q: What sets your guild apart from the other guilds on LA?

A: We aren’t here to make a statement or mass recruit in order to be the best. We have good guys who seem to play well together. To us XTC isn’t just a name here. Its a tag that should be worn proudly and happy to be a member of.

Q: What in your opinion is the best aspect of your guild that gives you the most fun and satisfaction?

A: LOL, Its mad fun to drop vamp in an uneven fight and listen to them ramble of how we cheat, steal and lie to win

Q: Do you have any requirements for membership in the guild? If so, what are they?

A: Right now the only requirement is you must be a friend of a current member unless I think you would be a good addition to us.

Q: Do you have any expected duties of membership in the guild? If so, please describe them?

A:I only ask that guild members be willing to take a count if for no other reason to defend a guild mate. Other than that login and have fun.

Q: Do you have regular meetings of the guild?

A: Nope, we just chat in TS, UOAM, party

Q: If someone wants to join your guild how to do they go about it? What is the process?

A: As stated above, we aren’t recruiting massively but always look for new members. Have to be a current member's friend to be accepted right away.

Q: Do you have a website?

A: Nope we sure don’t

Q: How does someone contact your guild?

A: They can get to me through anyone in the guild or ICQ me at 105423459

"I'd like to thank Frost for taking the time to interview XTC. Although we are small, we are making a comeback. With time and patience I think we can make a statement again on the pvp area of Lake Austin."

I would like to thank you KiMarhi Scrible for taking the time to do the interview.

[News] An Interview with Pan Arcane

#1738754 - 09/05/05 11:37 PM

I have had the opportunity to meet and speak with a "vacationing" LA personality, Pan Arcane. Here is some personal information about Pan Arcane, and some of his memories of PvP on the LA Shard and the first days of LA.

Q: When did you begin playing UO?
A: I started playing Ultima Online on June 13, 1998. I was three weeks short of twelve years old. I was inspired to play by my best friend, who I had once met in a sandbox at the ripe age of three, that discovered the game at his friends' house and told me about it when we were swimming one day. His friend is Soldevi Arcane today.

We arrived on the very first day (September 18, 2002) with our 'Arcane' mark and immediately established the beginnings of our private town a little ways north of Vesper, where my many houses had been on Lake Superior in the past. Our guild had started off as O:E (the Oblivious Empire) but soon enough, we changed our name to A:E (the Arcane Empire) to establish our identities.

Q: What were the names of your main characters?
A: To the public eye on Lake Austin I was Pan Arcane exclusively. Pan Arcane was never a product of Lake Austin though, that role was reversed. I was originally a product of the Lake Superior shard. I've had many "main" characters there in the past: Zygo, a swordsman and a tailor which evolved into a murderer; Daragon, once a renowned tank mage; Kurzon, a fencer that co-founded a player establishment 'the Village of Kurja' which once existed at the entrance to dungeon Despise in Britannia, after the area was vacated by KDoLS in earlier years.

Of course, I have played other characters as well, but these were the most prevalent.

Q: If you have gone "on vacation" from UO when was it, why, and for how long?
A: I have been in a vacationing status from Ultima Online for sixteen months and I have enjoyed every bit of it, personally. I have been paying attention to detail and I am honestly very proud of Electronic Arts and the direction they have been taking the game. It will be great for many years to come and the opportunity to expand, as exemplified, is endless. With that said, there has been no real motivation for me to make a full return and be who I was because the game has changed so drastically. It is less worthy of individual effort and more directed toward group interaction these days. Being a throwback player, it has never been my desire stand out as just a "member" of the community; I have always been a step above. I feel my past accomplishments have allowed me to maintain this status even today, and, I have nothing left to prove.

If I discover that there is something new for me to prove as an independent player, maybe you'll see Pan Arcane return some day to practice and play with the same passion that I used to play with. But if I am not totally motivated and focused mentally on the game, I am not physically able to epitomize that "impact" style of play that has made me so successful in the past. If I cannot be the same person and give it my 100% it will only tarnish my well deserved reputation on Lake Austin, so why bother? If I were being honest, I couldn't tell you whether I'll ever play again. You'll see if it happens.

Q: Were you always a PvP player or did you have broader interests in the game?
A: That is a very good question! I have many interests. I was primarily a role player and spent a lot of my time thinking of ways to establish my characters' personalities within the game. Each of my characters is different and each of them is played differently. Pan Arcane is one of my finest masterpieces. I have participated in many in-game events (weddings, plays, quests, etc.) and played a supporting role in many of these events as well. I made the most of what I could while I played.

A bulk of my time was spent aiding in player development. I volunteered a lot of days and resources to assisting new players and helping them succeed in becoming better players in the game and bigger members of the community. Having had the opportunity once upon a time of being helped this way myself, I know the feeling of having a "mentor" at the beginning and I had always made that a vital part of my playing style, to make sure that people didn't give up so fast and to make sure they'd become aware of all of the opportunities that are presented for them.

I have never played without my crafter. Things like mining and crafting different items are always a great source of entertainment. I was an avid boat miner in my time, which was another role I played; I would spend hours mining the mountains of Minoc and sail north to Buccaneers Den to bank my ore. I loved to fish and was a collector of the different prize items as well.

Last on my list, I was an established combatant. This was something that I practiced and perfected. But I wouldn't say it was something that I emphasized. If I encountered combat, I was always prepared and I was always able to defend myself adequately. I cannot remember too many times when a lack of player versus player ability on my part would let me down, so that isn't a bad thing. To call myself a "PvP player" wouldn't be fair, though. I have enjoyed every aspect of the game at different times and I have never dedicated myself to just one cause. I was no power gamer.

Q: What was your favorite "era" in UO to date?
A: My favorite era was that between Renaissance (April 27, 2000) and Publish 16. The game did not offer all of the options then as it did today. But on Lake Superior, there was a real sense of community in Felucca and it made for some really fun times. I miss that.

Q: What do you think makes a "good" PvP Player?
A: A good combatant is not always the player that stands out as being the most talented. It is the one that can engage in those activities and not be frustrated or affected emotionally by imprecision or by other people. Sometimes players need to realize that it is only a game and the words that appear on the screen aren't going to change the future much. It is a good thing to look ahead at the opportunity to make positive rather than to dismiss what has happened before.

In the current state of Ultima Online, you can only become so good before other factors play decisive. Those who can take advantage of those factors these days are seen as the smart ones. A good combatant is one who is smart and takes advantage of as much as they can. That's unless I'm around. :smirk:

I don't respect those that succeed at player versus player combat any more than those that succeed at collecting artifacts. That isn't what it is about. I respect those that can create the biggest impact and be recognized for what they have done.

Q: How do you think PvP has developed and changed since you started with it in UO?
A: I could go through publish by publish and list the changes but you're not paying me enough to do that. Obviously it has changed a great deal through time and it has given people different opportunities to adapt and try new things. During the most glorious years of Ultima Online, player versus player combat was more like a chess match where there were only a certain amount of things that you could do. It truly required people to be swift with their thoughts and engage in those battles of wit, whereas today, especially past the Age of Shadows expansion players are really driven to use their imagination. There are different combinations of templates for you to choose from and dozens of insta-hit type special attacks. The game is item based with item based resistances unlike before. The player versus player platform is very much diverse now and I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. It created an opportunity for players that are less experienced and maybe do not wish to dedicate their time to "mastering" the craft that once was PvP in UO to try out new things and become very successful. I've heard of many former journeymen climbing the ranks and having their little thrills today. It's a good thing.

Q: What other players on Lake Austin did you enjoy going up against?
A: Playdough Po and Dark Magician respectively were the best mages that I have ever encountered on Lake Austin. Other than that, I can say that I've truly enjoyed my encounters with everyone.

Q: Were there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you were particularly engaged with and against?
A: I am against no one. These guilds were all against me. They were the predecessors of their own fate and you are here asking me about them now. I need to say no more.

Q: Can you recount a specially memorable event?
A: King Christopher (otherwise known as The Champion) refused to duel me properly. He was the only person that people widely thought could beat me and the only person I had yet to conquer, simply because he avoided me at every cost on his terms. His guild hosted a tournament at their own house and foolishly matched him against me first, so they wouldn't have to knock out one of their own members before me. He was 4/6 and the first person they matched me against. I disposed of him in one mana dump with a 2/4 set on my tank mage. They rebelled by stopping the tournament. I settled the score once and for all.

Q: What was LA like overall when it first opened?
A: That is a very good question! The shard itself was first opened on September 18, 2002 to new accounts. Hundreds of people, including myself, cheated by opening new accounts and began finding ways to farm gold and establish beginnings. A month later, it was open, and Advanced Characters were widespread. Battles began almost immediately. Many guilds full of flower eaters were formed, just average players, trying to work their way up in the ranks. But us Arcanes, we were ahead of the race by a kilometer or two.

Q: What is the most memorable part of opening a new shard?
A: The opportunity for a fresh beginning and to be able to indulge in that type of excitement from the very start is definitely very memorable. It was a great thing to see, for new friendships to branch and new rivalries to form, a very healthy thing for the game. I don't think the opening of the latest new shard, Origin, had the same type of impact as Lake Austin did a few years prior. I experienced that and it just wasn't the same.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A: Those that carry the perception that I am a villain are doing it by choice, they are the villain. I carried my own perception when I played and it was one that made me a successful player in every aspect. I have always been a role player, one of the best kinds, and having an awareness of my role and my actions within the boundaries of the game has really emphasized those different forms of personality. Those who opposed me did it by choice and they were the predecessors of their own fate. Those who followed me, often stayed out of my way, and they were accolades of great fortune.

The whole understanding in my guild was that we were never the aggressors, and this stood correct. In my time, none of my guild even had red characters. This is largely where people have jumped to conclusion too soon and been overly critical of how we played. It was more than obvious that we would joke around sometimes and talk a large game, but never once have we been the aggressors. I refuse to be labeled that way by anybody.

We were friendly at all times on an equal playing field and often, by choice, people did not recognize this. If spawning was what we felt like doing and we arrived somewhere to complete a spawn and people were already there, it was their instinct to label us as the "villains" and act as the aggressors toward us instead of allowing us to stay and help them. Contrarily, we would let people arrive at our champion spawns to help us out and many times people would profit millions. Some people would arrive and try to use their energy vortexes to kill us if we were flagged, but they were the predecessor of their own fate.

I suppose my message to those reading is that I am not an evil figurehead. I am somebody who takes pride in different forms of player interaction and I am tired of the misconception that I am a grief player or somebody out there to cause wrong for personal pleasure. I have never gone beyond the mechanics of what the game will allow me to do and I feel I have been fair to everybody based on how they deserve to be treated.

Thank you, Pan Arcane, for the interview!

[News] An LA Player's History: Rose Cotton

#6273793 - 11/21/05 07:14 PM (24.196.89.247)

An LA Player's History: Rose Cotton

Here is installment two of my LA Player's History interviews. You might remember my first interview was with Pan Arcane a few weeks ago, followed by a request for player name suggestions in a thread following that. You will find links to these articles at the end of this one. I have been sending out a couple of interviews a week since then and they are starting to come back in!

Today I have the pleasure of presenting to you - Rose Cotton - who not only has designed a number of houses on this shard and runs "Bits Emporium," but is a much-beloved part of our community since the opening of the shard. Rose and her hubby have recently returned from a "UO vacation" to us, so it is a good time to offer you her profile!

Some Personal Questions for Rose

When did you begin playing UO?

My hubby Hephaestus played during the beta, so I got to try it then too. I started officially playing with the pre-ordered Charter Edition on the first day UO was released (we still have our cloth maps and UO pins that came with it). We played exclusively on Great Lakes and had lots of fun there. Ah the memories… random strangers would run up and ask if we needed help, or introduce themselves just to greet us, and the lands were new and unexplored. Those were good times!

When did you start playing on LA?

We both got new accounts so we could start on LA with the early settlers a month before it opened to the general public. That’s why we still have 4 accounts active… our 2 “LA” accounts and our 2 veteran accounts, which are nearly 84 months old. We play exclusively on LA now.

What are the names of your main characters?

Rose Cotton is my true main and my original LA character, and being the crafty woman that she is... she’s a legendary tailor, GM chef, GM carpenter, GM tinker, master blacksmith, master mage, etc. I have tons of other alts but the main ones are my legendary archer Lady Astarte and my legendary bard/treasure hunter Lady Ariel. Heph has lots of alts too, his most well-known being Aramis and Garet Jax.

Would you like to tell us a little about yourself personally?

I’m a stay-at-home mom for our 4-year-old sweetie of a daughter. I used to work as a newspaper reporter and a communications writer, so it’s strange being the interviewee instead of the interviewer lol. I also love science fiction, and I’ve played Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes, Everquest, Diablo and lots of other games.

Do you run any "establishments" on the shard?

I’m the owner/operator of Bits Emporium along with my hubby Hephaestus. It’s located NW of the Britain moongate in Trammel. We opened our shop shortly after LA opened and have sold everything from BODs to crafted items to loot and now plants as well. In the past I ran an interior design service called Bits Designs, but I don’t have time to decorate houses anymore. I also ran the LA Community Center, which I hope to set up again in the near future to host events for everyone to enjoy.

Do you belong to any guilds or groups that you care to mention?

Right now just BIT, which is short for Back In Time, and it’s just me and Heph and our alts. We named it Back In Time basically because we were returning to UO when LA opened. We also did factions here on LA in the guild Bounty Hunters, which was loads of fun. On Great Lakes, we ran a small guild called Drakes Legion (we loved hunting in Destard) until we eventually joined up with a large anti-pk guild called Dark Empire.

If you have gone "on vacation" from UO… when was it, why, and for how long?

Heph and I have taken 2 official vacations from UO… the first for about 6 months when the lag on Great Lakes got really bad. When LA opened we started playing UO again and had lots of fun being a part of a new shard. This year we had some RL commitments come up and ended up taking a hiatus for a few months over the summer. Now we are back and having fun checking out all the new changes. I think everyone ends up taking a break from UO at one time or another. But there always seems to be something to come back to, at least if you’re sentimental like me!

What "style" of play has been your main one or favorite?

I always like crafting and running vendors, no matter what game I play. It may not make a lot of gold for me but I have fun doing it and meeting all the customers. I’m a social person, so it’s fun for me. For PVM, I’ve played an archer ever since my days of playing Diablo. If there’s an archer template, I’ll have an archer as one of my main characters hehehe. I’ve enjoyed archery IRL so I’m drawn to that profession in gaming.

What do you think makes a "good" UO player?

A good UO player is someone who enjoys the game for what it is and doesn’t take things too seriously. I think as long as you’re having fun, you’re a good UO player. It helps being easily amused, like I am lol.

What do you like the most about UO? Has this attracted you to start playing or stay with the game?

Being a decorating junkie, I like the house customization and decorating options. I have a bad habit of redesigning my houses just for the fun of it. Sure makes it hard to stay organized! Aside from that though, if I didn’t have a vendor shop to run I’m not sure I would keep playing. It gives me a good reason to go out and gather resources, craft things, and collect loot to enhance and share with others. Not to mention, running a plant shop makes me log in every day to keep them alive lol.

What do you not like the most in UO? Has this caused you to actually leave the game?

Lag and disconnects are a game-killer for me. It is the main reason we took a break from Great Lakes. Once LA opened we had a better route to a server without lag, and now we are here to stay on LA.

How would you like to see UO develop to help people stay interested and involved and/or attract new players?

I think if we could allow players to maybe pay gold to host events like PvP encounters and PvM battles, the way that the event moderators can, we would see more community interaction. I love hosting events but I can’t spawn monsters or loot or anything else like that to make events more interesting than the average net toss or dungeon crawl. That way the players could have more connection with making their own storyline since UO has been lacking one for some time now. And wouldn’t it be great to come away from an event with cool loot that said something like “Souvenir from the Great Vorpal Bunny Hunt Hosted by So-and-So, 2005”!!!

If you could create "the perfect" UO game…. what would it be like?

Wow, a perfect UO game… if I could rewind to the times before Trammel was opened, that would be close. I also think there’s too much land mass out there right now, that UO has lost its quaintness… where you could travel the lands and run into people, and all the towns in Britannia had activity going all the time. So I would go back to the times when it was just … Britannia.

Reminiscing

What was your favorite "era" in UO to date?

Definitely the best times were before Trammel, before insurance, and before power scrolls and even pre-BOD times. I think these changes alone caused a major shift in the game that UO has never recovered from. Those were the times you had to be careful where you hunted and it was exciting to take down a dragon or defend yourself from a fellow player. I remember one time I was living in the swamp near Destard and showing the area to a friend, and we ran across a house with players in it. We went to introduce ourselves but instead got attacked, and so I told my friend to run while I tried to bait them away. I ended up one on one vs. this guy named Jester, and somehow I managed to beat him and even loot something off his body, and recall out just as his friends ran up attacking me. And then when I reached the bank and exclaimed my victory, everyone shrugged it off as no big deal because I was new to pvp and they were used to it all hehehe. I remember when it was a big deal to find an undead weapon or a weapon of vanquishing or armor of invulnerability. And it was fun to fight your way down to the lowest levels of a dungeon, which was always an adventure because of the threat of pk’s. Those were the days when people also sailed the seas in search of adventure instead of just an 8x8 streak hehe. Anyway, back when Richard Garriott was still a part of things, those were the good ole days when you really felt you were taken away to a different world by logging into UO.

How do you think UO has developed and changed since you started with it?

I like that the developers have added to the game while not changing the basics too terribly much. In other words, you still have the same ole dungeons to hunt in, the same waters to fish in, the same houses to build as before… but then you also have new lands and dungeons, new loot to gather, new houses to customize and so on. Now I wish they would enhance, fix and improve what we have instead of making things bigger. Give us a reason to go back to Shame and go back to the swamps, and the seas, and things like that, instead of taking the easy way out and making new lands. We need to bring back the nostalgia of the good ole days in UO. Make the game fun again and people might return again.

What other players on Lake Austin do/did you particularly enjoy going up against and/or hunting with?

I had a great time running factions with Bounty Hunters, back in 2004. We had some amazing battles that would get your blood pumping… like the one battle that lasted two hours straight as we defended our faction base. Those all-nighters really did show who you could count on and how well you could succeed as a team.

Are there/were there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you are/were particularly engaged with and against?

Well since I mostly engaged in factions rather than regular PvP, I can say without a doubt that our biggest nemesis was the True Britannians people, who had a huge advantage guarding Lord British’s castle. They had many good players, and victories went back and forth a lot of times. I like to focus on the positive, so I think we had a good competitive relationship with them overall.

Can you recount a specially memorable event?

Well the biggest event I took part in was the Moonglow Spring Festival in April of 2004. Aurora Stuart, Nutty Professor and I spent several weeks planning the LA portion of what was a HUGE multiple-shard event that was designed to show the solidarity of UO players and foster camaraderie and fun. We had 5 solid hours of events that started in Moonglow and spanned across Britannia, even into Felucca. It involved careful planning, many volunteers and tons of donations from all over Lake Austin to make sure everyone had fun and went away with treasures and fun memories. We even had a GM unexpectedly provide us a temporarily permanent moongate from Moonglow to Britain! That whole event was a truly fun time.

[Here’s the link to the shard reporter’s news report for anyone who wants to reminisce or brainstorm ideas for future events: LA News Report on Spring 2004 Festival]

Were you one of the early LA players? If so, what was LA like for you when it was a young shard?

Definitely! We started as soon as LA opened for people with new accounts, and we plan to stay here until UO dies. That first month on LA was a blast from the past, like the early days of UO when everyone knew each other and helped each other out. LA still has some of the friendliest people around, so that much hasn’t changed.

If you helped "open" the LA shard, what is the most memorable part of opening a new shard?

I remember when pirating was “in” and people like Crazy Joe and Tra la la di da, Zmey, and Huntress and all the others would take to the seas in Felucca and cause havoc. We got a lot of great laughs going out pirating with those nuts. I also remember the crafting community being close-knit and all of us keeping tabs of who finished which large BOD and got the good rewards and stuff. Then of course there was everyone taking advantage of cartography to make the fast cash early and place houses in the big land rush.

Thank you Rose Cotton for answering my "historical" questions! I have more of the interview with Rose Cotton to follow! I will be publishing two articles this week to start my series on PvP history in particular on the LA Shard and a second article on Faction play as it was on LA. Hopefully this will get some interesting discussions started, particularly as the development team works on and tests PvP changes to the game! For anyone wanting to see these changes, you can check out the TC9 shard and help test them out.

[News] An LA Player's History: LizzyT

#6293222 - 12/02/05 01:58 AM (24.196.89.247)

An LA Player's History: LizzyT

This is the third article in a continuing series on LA History and its players' experiences since the opening of the shard. This time I am interviewing LizzyT, who as many of you know, is currently "on hiatus" from playing UO but is still a part of our forum community. Lizzy has been an important part of the LA community since it started, and her recollections and impressions give an important perspective on the LA community and UO in general. LizzyT was an innovator, as you will see!

I have placed links at the end of this article to all previous articles in this series, and a link to a thread you can add new suggestions for "interviewees" onto (as well as, hopefully, some contact information for them).

Here then is LizzyT's UO memories and discussion of her time playing on the LA shard!

First Some Personal Questions for Lizzy:

When did you begin playing UO?

Well, I began playing on my ex-husband's account in Beta II.

When did you start playing on LA?

Psiserrat lured me in when LA went live. I had been on hiatus for a year beforehand.

What were the name(s) of your main character(s)?

Well, the name of my main character was Alexana "Lexi" Sibriani, but most people know me as LizzyT. Lexi was LA's official courtesan and a well-known philanthropist for about a year before I got involved in A|B and retired to live amongst the best group ever to grace the shard (Sorry, everyone, but A|B was full of good people at the beginning)

Would you like to tell us a little about yourself personally?

I am a 29-year-old mom of two. My daughters, aged 7 and 5, are my princesses; if you have known me online for a bit, you have probably seen their pictures. I also have two dogs, Cheyenne and Lou, who take up whatever space is left on the best after the girls climb in with me.

I have been a journalist for the last five years, and recently began a new position with an international public relations firm, as a copywriter. It's strange being on the other side of the newsdesk. ;)

In July, I am getting remarried. Since he is in the Navy, the girls, dogs and I will be relocating to be near him. He loves me and my children, and we love him too, so all-in-all, it's a wonderful way for one chapter to end, and another to begin. I feel pretty dern content with my life at the moment.

Did you run any "establishments" on the shard?

As a matter of fact, I did. I had the first New Player Center. Unlike the ones that followed which were much farther reaching in their impact and scale, mine was a youth hostel funded almsot entirely by the kindness of people on the shard. Newbies could "move into" the hostel and had all the necessary regeants, etc., at their fingertips. We also had a "NEW" guildstone so that they could spar on our little island, and were targetted a bit less frequently.

Did you belong to any guilds or groups that you care to mention?

Yup. My first guild was Psi's. I think it was called PHX? It was my first experience on LA and I met some friends whom I still keep in touch with now. I was the only girl (well, real girl) so I always had fun getting doted on by my fearless protectors.

I won't babble about A|B. Some of my best UO memories stem from that guild, and many of my worst. It is an era that is both a blessing and bane, but the friends I made will always remain close to me. Especially of note: Hepcat, Malevolence, Crimson Rose (the other one ;) ), Nemesis Arcane, Pan Arcane, Bubbles (both of them), Bizzy, Nefarius, Bast and Pandora (through the cheerleaders). Others, I know I have forgotten to mention. But any way you do it, you know if you connected with me, and how much I hearted you if we did.

If you have gone "on vacation" from UO before now … when was it, why, and for how long?

The first time was for one year before LA opened. I had gotten bored of the game and many of my friends from Chessy had moved on to other games. I felt antiquated, much as I do on LA now, which is why I no longer play ;)

If you are not currently playing… do you intend to return?

Well, let's say this; I have never sold my accounts. I have come close but never done it. Who knows. Others have returned. I see Rose Cotton and Beldin are both back. I am sure others will return as well. I might be amongst them one day. But the current game, as it stands, is not for me.

What "style" of play has been your main one or favorite?

Hmm, those are two different questions. My 'main' style would be a traditional Trammy banksitter. My 'favorite' would be working with good groups to spawn or fight. I can organize well, and in my last year began to play incognito. I learned that I could actually PvP and that I actually enjoyed it. My favorite style would be "with friends" though ;)

What do you think makes a "good" UO player?

Dedication. Patience. Above all else, though, respect for others and their playstyles. One of the best shards traditionally was Siege for this reason. I think that is why I liked A|B. PvPers rely on farmers to supply regs and supplies. Trammies get their scrolls at the local vendor without lifting a spellbook. Everyone in UO is supposed to be a community and as such, interreliant. I think that is where UO went wrong. When guilds were your family unit, everyone worked together and relied upon one another to succeed. That is not the case anymore.

What do you like the most about UO? Has this attracted you to start playing or stay with the game?

This will be a very cliche response, but more than anything, UO is about people. No game has ever captured the sense of community that UO was able to convey. You could manifest your character's destiny to your heart's content. If you didn't like your template, you could change it without starting over. Your person was whatever you wanted it to be, and since you put that much soul into your character, it became something more.

One of my favorite sayings is "Nothing perfect has a soul". UO personifies that image.

What do you not like the most in UO? Has this caused you to actually leave the game?

I think I have said this, and many have heard my complaints, but UO has become too much about what you have and less about who you have it with. It used to be about a team effort, and now "team effort" is synonymous with "gank squad". It's just a totally different animal, and one to which I find no attraction. Things as simple as vendors have had a vast detriment on the game. It took out the need for player-to-player interaction. The reliance on 'weapons of mass destruction' has negated the benefit of the neighborhood smithy. Nutty Professors would not thrive in today's UO marketplace. It just isn't the same game.

How would you like to see UO develop to help people stay interested and involved and/or attract new players?

Realistically, this game is nearly a decade old. That is archaic by computer standards. I think I started playing this on a 133. Now, my cell phone has more power than that! The fact that this game has stood so long is more a testament to the dedicated players than to anything else. I have seen a revival in the strength of the staff and the efforts of EA to provide more content. The question is where it just becomes silly (elven sunglasses??). The greatest hope for UO are its vets. They return, they open multiple aco****s, they bring spouses and kids and friends and roommates. Reaching out to the old players will bring in new ones.

If you could create "the perfect" UO game…. what would it be like?

I have played it. It was wonderful. ;)

Reminiscing:

What was your favorite "era" in UO to date?

Hmmm, probably pre-Publish 16. The game took a totally different direction at that point. The WORST period was post AOS...Ewwie!!

How do you think UO has developed and changed since you started with it?

I think it changed from a Massively Multiplayer Online ROLEPLAYING Game into an archaic XBOX Live.

What other players on Lake Austin did you particularly enjoy going up against and/or hunting with?

I mentioned many above, but some others to note would be Nutty Professor (YOU STILL OWE ME CHILD SUPPORT!), Belshazar, War of the Roses, Rave, Arkyn, Crazy Joe, Aurora, Jinxie, MrBlah, Caeman and Cartman, Basher, Buttercup (the PPGs in general), Fishbert, the whole Cosmic-Monkey clan and all the old-tyme Stratics posters that used to keep the topics rolling off the page faster than you could respond to them.

Last, but not least, Razor. Over the years, he has been a source of comfort in an ever-changing world. Though he has grown into himself more and more each year, his general character and demeanor has remained constant. I am sure many people would not understand me saying this; many don't know him well enough. But I truly respect him and am glad to have seen his point-of-view time and again in the past. I look forward to it in the future.

Were there any particular alliances/opponent guilds that you were particularly engaged with and against?

A|B was formed to combat SD's guild. Otherwise, I suppose it would be the supremely eminent Pan Arcane and the Arcane Empire that struck the most fear into my heart ;)

I truly think that the Drow guild (I can't remember the name =/) and Beldin's were probably two of the best the shard ever saw for dedication to community and to fun. Also Tycolby's work was amazing! His crew was always on the go and willing to help anyone who needed a hand. They all exemplified my ideal UO.

Can you recount a specially memorable event?

There are many. One of my favorites is probably the bachelorette auction. When the shard was young, TraLaLaDiDa and I got along. We worked together to plan a shard-wide bachelorette auction to raise funds for youth hostel. The planning and the actual event were a lot of fun. Actually, many of those events, like Daria's Drunken Races, are good memories.

Were you one of the early LA players? If so, what was LA like for you when it was a young shard?

One word. COMMUNITY. It was very much like I remembered UO to be. The Youth Hostel thrived because people took an interest in helping each other. Everyone was new in retrospect; we all came from different shards. But we worked well together. It was a period that can never be forgotten, and sadly, I doubt it can be replicated.

If you helped "open" the LA shard, what is the most memorable part of opening a new shard?

I didn't come until it was open for a month. ;) My 'job' in my eyes was to keep new people rolling in from the other shards where life had become droll. I knew what it was like when I quit; LA was a whole different animal and I hoped to share that with others.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I am thankful for my memories of LA and the people I have met. It isn't 'just a game'. It's like going to the local bar and making friends with the people you see every Thursday night, and there is a comfort in that. It just loses that feeling when you realize everyone is moving to a bar down the street because the service here sucks. It's just never quite the same again.

Thanks LizzyT for responding to my LA historical questions, and congratulations on the engagement! There are more interviews to come, and I still have promised articles on PvP and Factions too. Stay tuned for more in the LA History article series.

This particular entry is of Stratics historical note, given that the COW guild was once the home of several Stratics notables....

Last Exodus of the COW It was a bright afternoon as Lothiel departed the golden wood on her first reporting assignment. Her experience with plant growing placed her as near to farming skills as any elf might approach, and so unto her the duty fell to lead five head of cattle on an exodus of grand proportions. She was charged with recording the details of this significant event for future posterity.

Little did she realize the difficulty of the task she had undertaken. To herd five cows from Malas to the East Britain Bank in Felucca was more daunting than had been anticipated. She had only the barest knowledge of the bovine species. And being young and only a novice in her learning of magic, she was not yet capable of forming a gate to her destination. Therefore it was a long and dangerous journey she embarked on in service to the citizens of Lake Austin.
With determination, a brave spirit, and five cows trailing behind her, she approached the meeting place. And yet upon her arrival she discovered she was the only one to have made the journey, for none other had followed the call of the COW.
And so it was that a single elf maiden, one who had answered a call of duty, not of faith or repentance to a bovine god, was to be the only witness to the end of a significant piece of Lake Austin history.
The Cult of the Cow [COW] was formed during the initial opening of Lake Austin, and at its peak boasted as many as 30 followers. Crazy Joe (Alpha Bull) led the herd, and Jamison was named Oracle due to his prophetic writings. One can still read his "Book of the Cow" at Crazy Joe's rune library (26°48'S, 6°57'W).
According to Jamison, COW members "were dedicated to various bits of chaos and silliness, all the in name of religious zealously." They were often noted for their fanatical activities, such as dealing righteous punishment to those who attacked cows in their sight, or wore leather armor. They were also famous for "ministering to the sick" of the land by submitting suspected sufferers of the unattended macroing disease to purification by fire.
And so on this bright afternoon, with no faithful soul left to mark its passing, the legacy of COW faded into the annals of history. All that remain are the final prophetic utterances of Jamison, Oracle of COW:
The spirit of the Lord Bovine doth call thee unto repentance. Behold the Great Bull doth wax strong in his fury with the 2 leggers of Lake Austin. Even as the Lord Bovine did promise those that would have faith unto his word that they would have riches and yay even a home unto them selves, he doth withdraw his loving hoof since there was not a soul to appear to guide the cows unto their inheritance.
The Lord Bovine doth tell me to instruct thee that since the people of Lake Austin did nay show forth any small part of faithfulness that he doth withdraw his favor and yay even the barn which was valued at over 495k. So Doth the Lord Bovine declare, so it is done.
Behold this is the last event for as long as I do receive the guidance and wisdom of the Lord for even now the time is upon us for the shard to loose this church for the spirit of apostasy is strong among thee. It shall come to pass that soon, the Oracle of the Cult of the Cow will depart these lands and graze with the Father Bull for Sosaria doth not follow the one true bovine faith. So with this I, Jamison Naurante of the cult of the Cow guild doth depart. Safe travels to all and maybe one day the Lord Bovine shall wax strong in his forgiveness and restore this bovine gospel unto the faithful once again.

Lady Windstar and Alibaba - A Wedding Story
Alibaba and Lady Windstar where united together in marriage Saturday, April 24th, at a wedding chapel that Alibaba designed and decorated, with the help of friends, especially for his lovely bride.

If that sounds wonderfully romantic, then the whole story you must hear, for it is a tale of chivalry and love that spans our shattered world, the mark of destiny in its telling. He lived on Lake Austin, she on Chesapeake. It would seem unlikely the two paths could ever cross, but fate often has other plans.
While visiting Chesapeake one day, Alibaba ran through a gate that would alter his life forever. She ran a guild on Chesapeake, and had opened the gate for new guild members. One thing led to another, and Alibaba found himself a new member of the guild.
One night, Alibaba received a message from his new guildmistress that she was being harassed by a rakish fellow who would not leave her be. He immediately went to her aid, and, quickly taking in the situation, boldly asserted that the lady was his wife, and that he was 32 years of age (hoping this would discourage the rude suitor's advances). Apparently it worked, though in truth the brave lad was but 16.
So that his bluff would not be discovered by those chasing the beautiful lady, Alibaba loudly proclaimed his love and affection for her to all who could hear. However, it was not long before the proclamations, first meant to protect her honor, began to ring of truth. They spent much time together, their favorite spot being the bank in Haven. They soon realized they should not be separated across the shards, and Alibaba began to sell everything he owned on Lake Austin, planning to move to Chesapeake to be near her.
Eventually, he asked her to move here to Lake Austin with him instead, and she agreed. In Alibaba's words, "she moved, and I paid for her ticket over here since I love her so." It was then he asked her to marry him, and gave her a 20000 diamond wedding band, 45000 diamond wedding band, 35000 diamond wedding bracelet and Armor of Fortune as a token of his devotion.
He soon purchased a plot of land upon which he built a beautiful wedding chapel. It was lovingly decorated, and Alibaba and Lady Windstar were married, surrounded by their friends Carma, Alicia, Lundan, Desire, Snapon Tools, Belshazzar, Slayer, Lord Eric Jr. of LCL. For some lovely pictures of the pre-wedding decoration party, click here. For full coverage of the wedding, click here. Congratulations to the happy couple!
