An Amazing Finish to an Amazing Race!
Fireworks filled the sky above the Castle of Lord British, but they did not signify a royal event this night. Instead they marked the beginning of an amazing event, or more precisely, The Amazing Race of Lake Austin.

The epic race was sponsored Saturday evening by BBO of Lake Austin, and coordinated by Cristina. 15 Teams were formed in the weeks prior to the event. The Goal: to be the first team to navigate through 20 locations, scattered across all four facets of Lake Austin. The Catch: Each team began with a single cryptic clue, then had to determine the place it referenced and reach the location in order to receive the next clue. Teams were given a single "Free Pass" that would allow them to skip one location point along the way.
After the teams checked into the Castle Throne Room and received their first clue, the fireworks signaled the teams to start. Gates quickly began opening, and within seconds the previously chaotic hall was left empty and silent. The race was on!
As participants fought to decipher clues and get themselves to their destinations as quickly as possible, event coordinators scrambled behind the scenes to prepare for incoming teams to each location. This made for some interesting unplanned issues to overcome, including the attack of a rampaging wyvern - causing the inconveniently timed death of event volunteer Starsong, as well as a rogue beetle who ran away with the clue books for some of the last locations. However Cristina, being quick on her feet, was able to keep the race on track with little negative impact.
The locations, reduced on-the-fly due to the minor technical difficulties, were as follows:
  1. Bagball Arena
  2. Twin Oaks Tavern
  3. Bucs Den Tavern
  4. Brit Library
  5. Lighthouse
  6. Brit Zoo in Moonglow
  7. Skara Brae Ferry
  8. Shrine of Virtues
  9. Paladin Hall
  10. Blackthorne's Grave
  11. Hag's Hut (from the Hag quest)
  12. Toymaker in Trinsic (from the Obsidian quest)
  13. Compassion Shrine
  14. Jhelom Pits
  15. Vesper Bank
  16. Cove Bank\Yew Winery
  17. Brit Moongate
  18. Ended at Castle British

Approximately 1 1/2 hours after the race began, the teams began heading toward the final destination. It was a close race, with only a few minutes time span separating all the racers. Rose Cotton was the first to cross the finish line, with her team members following quickly behind, earning first place. The winners:
  • 1st Place: Rose Cotton, Aramis, Kylie and Sir Cartoman
  • 2nd Place: Arianna, McNal and Belshazzar
  • 3rd Place: A|B Team, Aurora Stuart, Jinx, Static, and Insane
  • 4th Place: Orange Slice, Dark Magi, Shiloh, Psyco
  • 5th Place (tie): Team Pacman, Bazeron and Borgan Ironhand
  • 5th Place (tie): Richard Cypher, Oracle of Dragon, Madwolf, Shannon O'Leary, and Sir Gangus Con
  • 6th Place: THB Team, Aurora and Glen
Immediately following the race, everyone was transported to the BBO Auction House for the Award Ceremony. All participating teams were awarded prizes, with the first place team receiving 1 million in gold, a set of the clue books and a participation book, plus some other spontaneous goodies.
When asked about their racing strategies, team members had plenty to share. "Luckily, at least one of us knew where the next clue led us, and thanks to a vast and wide range of runes between the 4 of us, we were able to get around quickly," stated Aurora Stuart [A|B]. Rose Cotton [BIT], team captain for the winning racers, noted "None of us ever got hopelessly lost, we all were familiar with the countryside so it was easy to get back together again if we got separated. We all had UO Automap up so we knew where we were going once we got the clues." Even so, in the heat of the race things didn't always go smoothly. Aurora [THB] confessed "I did get misdirected once. We were supposed to go to Delucia Fel and somehow I read the clue and got us to the little gypsy town near the Compassion shrine in Ilshenar!". Regardless, all participants did an admirable job, proving themselves more than adept with the geography of the realm.
Participants in the race clearly enjoyed themselves throughout the event, and came away with more than just prizes at the end - laughs and memories. Rose Cotton commented, "We were all laughing the whole time, and it was hard to target runes when you're laughing that hard!" And as if there wasn't already enough, some racers created a little of their own fun. "Those guys I ran it with are a riot, they're so fun to just hang out with. We decided to run the race naked and add a lil extra "unf" to the fun of things," Aurora Stuart shared. Which, as it turned out, was mentioned among Aurora's highlights of the evening. "The most interesting thing was waiting in Luna with the A|B team. Actually, I'd have to say it was the funniest too with the guys and their uniforms, or lack of! You could tell they must have been cold, if you get my meaning..."
In addition to a well-deserved rest, Cristina also came away from the event with her own memories. "I was very pleased with the turn out of events, especially since every one had a great time," she stated. When asked what she felt was the biggest reward for her efforts, she added, "I held something that people had fun in (I hope) and that it was different, and not the normal 'what are we gonna do?' thing." And it appears this is just the first of many. Cristina dropped a few hints that planning was already underway for the next unique event - an animal fight, with details to follow soon.
Finally, all the participants expressed their sincerest gratitude to BBO and to Cristina for an immensely enjoyable evening. In the words of Rose Cotton, "Thanks to BBO for such a fun event. It was crazy, funny and adventurous all rolled into one!"

The Wedding of Aurora and Jinx
For centuries, people have asked one question... What is my reason for being on this world? Many a sage hath searched for the answer. But they all failed in their attempts. There are those lucky people who do find the answer... They do not find it in ancient treasure troves, nor in the depths of secret dungeons or hidden by magic. Nay, they find it in places where they would least expect it: Drinking ale in a tavern and looking across the room, some even when they fight monsters on the battlefield,... or discuss tomes of ancient wisdom in some secret library... The light comes at unexpected moments... For at such a time, two souls come together, Two souls ... who should be..... as one.
It is rare that such words find ultimate truth in their expression, but tonight was one such time. For it was this night that Lady Aurora Stuart and Jinx pledged their lives to each other, and in pure and genuine love they were united as one.

The ceremony was held in the sanctuary of Wisp Dungeon in Ilshenar, before a shimmering ankh, and amidst a bounty of fresh summer flowers. Wisps floated and danced among the guests, whispering melodically as if to add their own enchanted blessing to the proceedings.

The bride was beautifully attired in an ice white gown with an ice blue cape and hat. The groom was resplendant in black trousers and cloak and an ice white shirt, carrying a Staff of the Magi. Standing as maid of honor for the bride was Lady Eryn Darkthorn, and best man for the groom, Jimmy Pop Ali. The ceremony was officiated by ZigZag. The bride was escorted down the aisle and given away by Lord Nutty Professor.

After a lovely invocation by ZigZag, Aurora and Jinx recited their vows, and rings were exchanged. They were pronounced husband and wife amidst applause, shouts of joy, and even a few fireworks. The guests were then directed to the Umbra moongate where another gate awaited to transport them to the reception.

The reception was held in a rooftop garden, the centerpiece of which was a lovely pool and fountain. Guests seemed particulary attracted to the fountain, some few even shedding their attire to wade through the bubbles. Wine, beer, cider, and... beer were consumed in great quantities through the evening, prompting more fountain-splashing and clothes-shedding. However, the primary activity of the evening, and a most disturbing tradition to be sure, was that of beating the groom senseless at every opportunity. Jinx remained in good humor throughout, however, and even graciously offered a chance to those who'd not yet had a turn.

Finally, the happy couple each took a moment to express their love for each other, and for their dear friends, and to thank those who had helped to plan, prepare, and share the happy occasion with them. Afterward, the party continued for a short time with drinking, laughing, and even some dancing (of which this reporter will always hold a fond memory), before the guests began to disperse to give the bride and groom some privacy. The honeymoon plans were not divulged.
And so ended a perfect evening, though many a tear throughout Lake Austin might have been shed this night. In the bride's own words, "Today, history was made.... a prominent playboy and playgirl are taken off the market...for good." Lonely souls looking for love will needs look elsewhere, for there was no doubt this night that Aurora and Jinx will forevermore have eyes only for each other. For this reason their friends share in their joy. Congratulations Aurora and Jinx, we love you both!

Farewell to a Friend The Bloody Battle Axe Tavern was full to overflowing, and the stout dwarvish ale was overflowing as well. A roaring fire burned in the great stone fireplace. Friends laughed and drank together as if there were not a care in the world.

But despite the seemingly merry atmosphere, an undercurrent of sadness threaded its way amongst the patrons gathered together this night. For it was not an ordinary, carefree evening of fellowship at the local pub. Rather, it was time to say farewell to one of their own.

Beldin Brightaxe, along with most of the Brightaxe Clan, was leaving Kraggen-Cor, and traveling to far away realms. Whether on a noble quest, a chance at great wealth, or perhaps just the promise of adventure, none knew for certain. But it mattered not. To his friends, it only remained to drink a final round of ale together and toast to luck and joy of the journey.

This reporter paid tribute to the much-loved tradition of Kraggen-Cor Stortelling Nights, by presenting a final tale to those gathered. Afterwards the floor was opened to all who wished to express their thoughts and good wishes, of which there were many.

Finally, Beldin Brightaxe led the crowd on one last grand tour of the Mighty Dwarven City of Kraggen-Cor, Strength of the Mountains. The city, which will retain it's name, has been placed in the hands of the Order of Cheese [OOC]. The members plan to keep many of the buildings unchanged in an effort to preserve this historical LA landmark.
Following the tour, the group returned to the tavern to say their final goodbyes to the dwarf thane who has been such an loved and respected member of our community. The crowd dwindled slowly, a touch of sadness in the air, as each said farewell in their own way and departed.
Soon, only Beldin and I remained, and as we stood together in the Bloody Battle Axe Tavern, I looked around one more time at this place I had come to cherish more than any other in the realm. Then I looked beside me and smiled at this most unlikely of friends. For who would ever have imagined that such a friendship could be struck between elves and dwarves. And such a friendship it was.
With no more words to say, Beldin Brightaxe mounted his great swamp dragon with a smile and a wave, and I watched him ride away. I tried to hide the tears that threatened to betray me. But then I realized I needn't bother, for this was one farewell that was worthy of them.

Drunken Bar Brawl a Night to Remember...If They Can! Ale, bragging, gossip, dancing, ale, noise, snacks, nudity, brawling, singing, ale, men, women, pirates, dwarves, orcs, elves, and did I mention ale?

Are you wondering how you possibly missed all this? If so, you apparently did not attend DoG's Bar Brawl Night at the Cat's Lair Tavern in Britain Sunday evening, for it was all there. By the end of the evening, stacks of empty ale pitchers, dead bodies, and full spittoons made one glad not to be the poor tavern workers who would have to clean up the mess.
The event was casual, with no particular agenda other than to have a good time. The ale flowed freely, though the proprietors had a hard time keeping up with the speed at which the patrons were able to consume it. Fortunately however, the only "shortage" of the evening was a drunken dwarf, not drink, food or entertainment.
The crowd, though extremely inebriated for the most part (or perhaps because of that fact) produced some highly interesting moments. Several episodes of boasting turned into all-out brawls throughout the evening, ending in the bodily demise of more than one drunken soul. There was much dancing, some ridding themselves of all their attire in the process, and at one point there was some disagreement over the true identity of the Lord of the Dance. Some tense moments developed at the arrival of an orc to the gathering, which the dwarf, already agitated at the presence of an elf, was none too happy about. In addition to being the target of the dwarf's agitation, this reporter even found herself pursued mercilessly by an amorous pirate, and on more than one occasion ended up with an intoxicated patron in her lap (they seemed to be attracted to the ears). Yes, reporting can be a hazardous job.
It is unknown how long into the evening the reveling continued, nor if there may still yet be some asleep under the tables. One can only hope that everyone made it home safely afterwards. All in all, those who attended appeared to have an enjoyable time, though one wonders if they will be able to remember it, with all that ale in them. So for those of you who were there, and are wondering, YES, you had a good time, and YES, you hope DoG will do it again soon!

Tomfoolery Abounds at Event Junkie Roundup
Monday evening old friends and new acquaintances gathered in Paladin Hall for what many hope will be an ongoing tradition - the Event Junkie Roundup. Eryn Darkthorn, former shard reporter and herself a professed event junkie, hosted the evening's activities.

The "Event Junkies" of Lake Austin have been around, headed by Ms. Darkthorn, since shortly after the inception of the first round of EM events last fall. A small network of groupies began to methodically stalk the EM in an effort to be ready for any potential activity, and also created an extensive communication network through which other interested citizens could be called into action when said activity was detected. The Roundup was an effort to reorganize the group as well as invite new citizens to be a part of the fun.
In addition to spending hours over a hot oven to provide enough cake and cookies to keep everyone stuffed and content, and hauling in enough ale, wine and milk to drown a swamp dragon, Eryn also coordinated the documenting of the Event Junkie network. Pigeon identification codes were gathered from all present and placed into a book, which was then copied and distributed for the purpose of enhancing communication of events throughout the community.
Perhaps the greatest purpose of the network however is providing a resource of understanding and emotional support to those who previously suffered the agony of awaiting events alone. This night, an abundance of food and drink led to a congenial atmosphere (cookie-tossing aside), and once the communication book was completed it was down to the serious business - a friendly game of Truth or Dare. For those who may not have been aware, it is the mischevious tomfoolery that holds the insanity at bay while waiting hour after hour for something, anything, to occur. Without going into detail, suffice it to say the activity at hand provided enough amusement/embarrassment to keep everyone sufficiently distracted, so that they never even noticed the absence of an EM event that night.
And that is the sign of a very successful Event Junkie Roundup indeed.

Galoneth of the Elves of Lorien dared to profess her love for dwarves at the WBB.

Story Telling Night at Kraggen-Cor - A Rousing Good Time! Friday evening was Story Telling Night at the Bloody Battleaxe in the dwarf city of Kraggen-Cor, and as always, a grand time was had by all who attended. After a short time of friendly chatting and hearty ale-drinking, Beldin Brightaxe welcomed the crowd, and then without further ado opened the floor (or the polar bear rug, to be more specific) for the storytellers to begin weaving their tales.

Stories, jokes and poetry were shared by several of Lake Austin's creative citizens for the enjoyment of those gathered. The coveted prize of the evening - 50K in gold, and the winner's piece "forever engraved in Kraggen-Cor's Hall of Records".

Lady Elisabeth started things off with a sad and bloody tale from the perspective of a wild nightmare forced to fight her tamed parents.

Following was big A with a story called "Fire Eater" about... well, a man who ate fire, and died.

Next was Oracle of Dragon with a somewhat short tale, "Just Me and My Dragon", though his was the first to the prompt the good-humored throwing of tomatoes.

Darkman relayed a blow-by-blow account of his encounter with a daemon on a lonely road, at which point someone broke out the popcorn in honor of the action-packed tale.

Xulia entranced the crowd with a frightening epic entitled "The Masque of the Red Death" which had the listeners on the edge of their seats until the end.

After lightening the mood with a wonderfully dwarvish joke, Beldin passed the floor to Ariana, who offered a delightful poem, the story obtained from the ghost of a witch, relating how she had been killed... by a beer. Yes, a beer.

Lord Belshazzar then offered a recollection of his first meeting of Beldin Brightaxe, who invited him on a visit to Kraggen-Cor, and his initial awe at the amazing sight. He proceeded to express his admiration of the Brightaxe Clan's contribution to the LA community, and praised their lasting friendship. It was a very moving moment indeed.

This reporter ended the evening with another story from the adventures of companions Baindir the Elf and Glankas the dwarf, regarding their encounter with a cave troll and their subsequently unusual rescue by a beautiful woman.

With the storytelling at an end the judges convened, and after much debate, the top prize was awarded to Xulia, Vampire Queen of The Darquanes of LA. Here is a short excerpt from the winning tale:
"They grabbed the intruder..and found to their horror... that he had neither face nor body...And Now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night and one by one dropped the revelers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel... and died each in the despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay... And the flames of the tripods expired.. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over ALL!"
Afterward the guests enthusiastically toured the city of Kraggen-Cor, and enjoyed a great time of fellowship. Tavern owner, and event coordinator, Beldin Brightaxe expressed his pleasure at how well the event was received. Story Telling Night can be a tricky thing in a shy crowd. However, as Beldin commented to Lady Elisabeth, the first volunteer of the evening, "most ae thae time they all huv tae listen ter Beldin tell dwarvish humor stories jist tae git thae ball going, bar yer jist jumped reet oop." Lady Elisabeth, a first time attendee of Story Night, learned of the event in the Stratics Lake Austin News. When asked how she enjoyed the evening, she replied, "It was wonderful".

A Second Farewell When last I was invited by the Disciples of Greed [DOG] to one of their gatherings, I learned a thing or two. First, I have most certainly lived a sheltered life. And second, our elvish ears apparently drive drunken revelers to distraction. However, the greatest thing I learned that evening was, if nothing else, DOG knew how to throw a heck of a party.

So when I received the invitation for another DOG-hosted gathering on Thursday eve, I readily accepted, with only slight concern for my ears. However, this night's event had a somewhat different purpose than the last, one that I understood only too well. One of their comrades was soon to depart for a distant land on a mission of honor, far from family and friends, and his guildmates wished to give him a sendoff that he was not like to forget.
Word of the party was passed covertly through underground channels in the days prior, for the guest of honor, Liriel/Lord Cadderly, was to be surprised. Guests representing several LA guilds turned out to bid farewell to Liriel. Each one dressed in red, white and blue, colors which despite the varied homelands of those gathered, acknowledged with greatest respect the duties which called him.

Liriel was indeed most surprised at the party gathered in his honor. He gave a short but heartfelt speech expressing how touched he was, and how much it meant to him to be recognized in this way. Guests also signed a book with personal messages (a rune has been locked down at both the Britain and Yew DOG vendor houses to the book location for those who would like to read it). Even the bartenders on duty got into the act, proclaiming good wishes loudly and often to Liriel.
Then, the party began.
If one expected the sadness of this night's purpose to diminish DOG's infamous ability to put on a wild bash, then one would have been grossly mistaken. Imagine if you will a long table piled with food. Bags filled to overflowing with ale, ale, and more ale. Dart throwing. Snowball fights. Guests being randomly handed daggers as party favors. More ale. Bloody massacres. Even more ale. And aye, my elvish ears were fondled a time or two as well.

Having been surprised by the party, and unaware of the plan for coordinated attire that evening, the guest of honor felt inappropriately dressed. So out of respect for his guests he eventually stripped off his clothing altogether. Actually, it is my observation the removal of clothing was not an unusual activity for a DOG gathering, as I had noted this first-hand in the past.

The rowdy fun continued for some time. There was no doubt that this group of companions enjoyed being together and simply having fun. When asked to describe their friend, Diggs stated, "As a person Liriel is a somewhat quiet and unassuming person not given to calling a great deal of attention to himself, but he is nonetheless a fun loving guy with a great sense of humor, and a great friend and guildmate."

Shortly thereafter it was suggested that a final hunt was in order. Fortunately enough, for it seemed the boisterous crowd was attempting to set the place afire in their drunken revelry. At last the guests gathered themselves together, trying to shake off the effects of all the ale, and departed for Ilshenar where they took on the Mephitis spawn at Valor shrine, and the Oaks spawn at Spirituality.

It was late into the night before the celebration came to and end. For that was indeed what this evening was - a celebration. Though it is always in great sadness that friends say farewell to one another, it is even greater happiness that such friendship brings. It was evident to this reporter, that Liriel and his guildmates shared such a friendship. And in this, they most certainly had much cause to celebrate.
Sgt. Joe Brown (A.K.A. Liriel), a medic in the US Army, will be leaving shortly for his second tour of duty in Iraq. He had returned home 6 months ago from his original tour of 1 year, and has been called up a second time. His 3 year old son, Jace, will be staying in Ft. Hood with his parents. Joe, the thoughts and prayers of your friends and neighbors on Lake Austin go with you.
For those who may wish to keep in contact with Joe while he is away, you can email him at [email protected]. In addition, Diggs of DOG would like to encourage everyone to remember the soldiers stationed away from home, whether through mail, email, or sending care packages. Especially during this holiday season. Diggs provided some suggestions of needed items:
Laundry soap, calling cards, toilet tissue, baby wipes, tooth paste and brushes...and in separate packages include food items (or they all end up tasting like soap...its 120 degrees in the sun there): hard candy, nuts, granola bars, drink mixes like Kool Aid....remember don't send anything that could melt and get all over everything else.
Thank you Diggs for the recommendations!

The Midnight Hunters Club: Late-Night Adventurers As day slips into night, and weary souls seek the comfort of their beds, there remain those for whom the promise of adventure beckons long into the wee hours of morning. On Lake Austin, where monsters never sleep, the Midnight Hunter's Club is the place for wakeful warriors to gather and face what awaits them in the night... together.

Once such adventurer, Tycolby of HH, often found himself wide awake and ready for a little hunting, but with no companions to accompany him. Eventually he put the word out looking for others who might be interested in forming a late-night hunting party, and was soon contacted by Lord Bacardi Silver. After a few successful hunts together, the two of them founded the Midnight Hunters Club. They have since added additional captains, Blade, Gamlin, and Cherri, so that between them they are able to man a hunting party every night at midnight (central time). In addition, a new 8 o'clock (central time) hunt group has been added for those not so inclined to stay awake for the late hunt.
What makes the Midnight Hunters Club unique, besides the timing of course, is their philosophy of helping each other and sharing the wealth. Too often when groups gather to hunt, it's every man for himself. However, the Midnight Hunters prefer to focus on having fun as a group, and giving everyone an equal chance to take home a highly sought after item - in particular, paragon chests at the moment. Party members are free to gather gold and other loot at their leisure, however they are to take turns receiving chests so that hopefully everyone has a chance to get one eventually. Artifacts are kept by those that receive them, though hunters are encouraged to share amongst the rest of the party to even things out if they choose. This of course depends on the honor system to work, but the concept is one that promotes respect and goodwill amongst the hunters, and is to be highly commended.
Tycolby states that many of those who have joined the hunting parties have been new to paragon hunting, and he enjoys showing new people the ropes. He also says that the hunts have been very lucrative for the party members attending, typically averaging 35K in gold per hunter on a good night. Everyone I spoke with emphasized that the chance of artifacts or chests was not really important, and that just showing up is rewarding because of the enjoyment, the fellowship, and the chance to take home a nice pack full of gold, jewels, weapons or armor. The group selects the more remote locations in Ilshenar in which to hunt, and as a result have little trouble with crowds. However, paragon hunting will not be the only activity the club takes on in the future. They have done an Ilshenar spawn, and also plan to add maps, hunts, quests, or boat trips as well. Excursions will take place in various areas excluding Felucca.
In addition, Tycolby announced that he has donated many new marties, trophy deeds, bear rugs, power scrolls, and other items to be awarded weekly for things such as the best performance as a hunter, the best death as a hunter, the most improved hunter, and the best hunting spot. So obviously there is a benefit to becoming a regular at the Midnight Hunter's Club!
Co-founder Lord Bacardi is currently putting together a web site which outlines the group's ground rules, as well as provides a showcase of screenshots and other information. When asked what he enjoyed most about the club, he stated "I really enjoy the experience and teamwork we have. I have managed to meet new people while having fun and that is really the foundation in which this is built on: Trust, Friendship, Fun, Experience, and something to do (lol)." He also points out that the club is not a guild, and there are no plans for it to become one. As such, the fact that people from all over LA can come together and have a fun time has built his trust in the LA community. If late nights, adventure, friendly companionship, and the chance for riches appeal to you, then the Midnight Hunters Club is the place to be. I have had the honor of hunting on two occasions with the club, and everyone involved proved helpful, generous and honorable beyond measure. Hunts leave nightly at 8PM and Midnight Central Time from the Luna Moongate. Look for Tycolby, Bacardi, Blade, Gamlin or Cherri. If you would like further information, you can contact the leaders via Stratics PM: Tycolby [tycolby] or Lord Bacardi [dayhjawk1982]. Also watch for postings on the LA forum for specific announcements.

Moonglow Spring Festival A Grand Success!
If you were not in Moonglow the beautiful afternoon of April 3, 2004, you missed a history-making event. The Moonglow Spring Festival provided five glorious hours of fun, fellowship, commerce, adventure and even mystery to the enthusiastic participants. There is no doubt that this amazing day will go down in the annals of Lake Austin history as the first and largest event of its kind to grace our young shard. We can only hope that there will be many more to come!
Sincerest thanks are due to the Lake Austin Festival Coordinators, Aurora Stuart, Rose Cotton and Nutty Professor. They worked tirelessly over the last several weeks planning the logistics of each event, recruiting volunteers, gathering donations and arranging prizes. They did an amazing job, and the festival activities ran like clockwork for the enjoyment of all who participated. After the festival drew to a close, it seems few were ready for the day to end. Many hopped on over to the Wal Mart auction to continue the socializing, while another large group headed over to Doom for a run through the Gauntlet!
The coordinators would like to thank the Lake Austin crafters and BOD swappers who participated in the Flea Market and BOD Swap, and Belshazzar for recruiting people to the flea market as well. In addition they wished to thank the following for their donations to the Festival:
  • Ariana - Eggs
  • Kylie - Nets
  • Shiloh - Nets
  • Cristina - Eggs
  • Gazza of CHA - Eggs
  • Boochie and Willie of KGB - books, powder of fortifying
  • Belsambar & UMP guild - 500k
  • Elves of Lorien - 100k, robe, rose, wand
  • Tremere - big chest of stuff (house minis, power scrolls, rares, gifts)
  • Phoebe Halliwell - eggs, 122k, wands
  • Bek - lamp post, other rares, eggs
What follows is a visual feast of festival fun for your viewing pleasure. Click on each small image to see a larger version!
1. As excited festival-goers began to gather in Moonglow, free raffle tickets were randomly distributed, and fireworks wands were provided to all. Soon the sky was filled with fireworks and shouts of "Happy Festival Day!!" The guild DiE made a most striking impression, with matching uniforms and a brigade of mighty fire steeds.

2. The parade line was formed and it was time to leave Moonglow through the permanent moon-gate, generously provided by a GM, to Britain. They marched around the Britain bank, shouting greetings to bystanders, then through another gate to Luna, and finally to Skara Brae, before returning to Moonglow to proceed with the festivities.
3. Following the parade, the raffle prizes were given away to several lucky winners. Beldin Brightaxe was actually seen jumping up and down upon hearing his number called. This was only moments after muttering that he never won anything.

4. The area behind the Moonglow bank quickly became a bartering center as citizens bought, sold and traded their wares. Items advertised included weapons and armor, resources, rares, house plots, and even accounts.

5. Once everyone was clean out of goods and money, it was time for the Bunny Bash. Green thorns were handed out freely, and participants began planting them in unison. Within moments the field was full of fast-hopping vorpal bunnies and all chaos insued. Some of the more squeamish festival-goers remained outside the fence, shaking their heads in disapproval over the massive display of small mammel cruelty, however that did not seem to dampen the violence in any way. Bunny Bashers happily collected statues, eggs, weapons and armor. It was a smashing good time!

6. While the bashers were otherwise occupied, festival coordinators snuck away and began hiding easter eggs as well as some special bags throughout Moonglow. Once all vorpal bunnies had been vanquished, participants raced over the island gathering eggs and looking for the hidden bags. Each bag was to be taken back to the Moonglow bank, with the lucky finder receiving a special prize.
Winners of the Easter Egg Hunt: Grand prize of +5 stat scroll, candles and other nice goodies: Beldin Brightaxe Winners of 100k each: Pan Arcane, ZEUS, Taste of Defeat, Tom DeLonge, and Brad

7. If anyone expected things to settle down after the bashing and racing, then they don't know BOD Swappers very well! BOD collectors had the opportunity to wheel and deal with each other for sought after deeds. Negotiations were intense, and many came away with just what they needed to complete that LBOD they'd been waiting for.

8. Next was the Net Toss, a deceptively gentle term for what was about to occur! Boats were formed into a square, and then participants were gated on board. The first few minutes were like the calm before a storm. Then the nets, provided to each adventurous sailor by the coordinators, were tossed at once into the depths of the ocean. The water began to boil, and soon all manner of angry sea creatures were dead set on having the festival-goers for lunch.

9. The grand finale of the festival began with the quite gruesome discovery of a corpse in the streets of northwest Moonglow. The victim - one Bugs Bunny. Participants discovered a note and a murder weapon on the victim. The threatening note blamed him for causing someone's child support to be late, and the weapon was marked with the name Porky Pig.

10. Investigators soon spotted "A Courier" at the Moonglow Inn. It was quickly determined that this messenger indeed delivered the note to the deceased, but he insisted the victim was still very much alive at the time. After being paid the gold he requested, he indicated he was hired to deliver the note by a bad man dressed in a dark hooded robe who was from the dead land.

11. Assuming the name on the murder weapon referenced a blacksmith, Porky Pig was located in Occlo. Investigators grilled him, figuratively speaking, about the dagger used to murder Bugs. He admitted to making the poisoned weapon, and eventually confessed that he did sell it to a nasty man in a dark hooded robe, calling him "forsaken" and "outcast". They seemed to be on to something now!

12. It was time to track down the outcast who was believed responsible for the demise of Bugs Bunny. A suspicious character in a hooded shroud called "The Damned" was spotted in Felucca, and was heard to shout, "that pig has betrayed me!" That pretty much gave him away. A mad pursuit ensued, with investigators attempting to surround the suspect. It seems he was a fairly quick fellow, as it took several minutes to lock him down. After a bit of violence involving the deaths of some of the investigators, the questioning began. As it turned out, The Damned was also somewhat of a weenie, as he spilled his guts pretty easily for fear of being sent to jail. Seems he was hired by a woman to kill Bugs. He did not know her name, but was scheduled to meet her that very night at Finest Alchemy in an island city.

13. Discovering that Finest Alchemy is in Mooglow where the mystery began, investigators quickly returned there to trap the woman The Damned was to meet there. Belladonna was spotted hiding in the shop and the mob detained her, demanding an explanation. She confessed to hiring The Damned to kill Bugs, stating that Bugs had killed Nutty at a rabbit fight contest. As a result, she would not receive the money promised to her by Nutty for the child support, and she lost her home. The crowd herded her back to the Moonglow bank where the remainder of the participants awaited the results of the investigation. Belladonna was given a good fussing at, and Rose Red was rewarded for being the first one to locate the murderer with a prize of 200k and a powder of fortifying.
And so ended the Moonglow Spring Festival 2004!

Get Ready... Get Set... SHOP!

It was the power shopper's dream-come-true. Imagine, if you will, a rowdy group of bargain hunters, overflowing money pouches, a knowledgeable guide, and the promise of prime shopping locations. Put all this together and you've got the BBO-sponsored "Night of Shopping", and what a night it was!

The shoppers began gathering at the Moonglow bank just before 8PM eastern, and anticipation of bargains galore permeated the enthusiastic crowd. An observant member of the group noted that there were more males present than females, thus de-bunking the myth that only girls like to shop.
Finally, Cristina of BBO, our guide for the evening, opened the first gate and it was time to start spending the money! Participants were escorted to 13 local vendor malls and 3 auction houses during the hour-long tour. At each location the vendor owner said a few words, showed the visitors around and were available to answer any questions.
All the shoppers seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. Many commented positively on the interesting housing designs and decorating motifs. A particular favorite was the Teddy Bear Shop, which was uniquely decorated with, well, a great number of adorable teddy bears. A lot was also learned about the layouts of each shop, since the owners often pointed out rooms or levels that visitors might miss at first glance, such as rune libraries, additional vendors, or other amenities.
My observation showed a very large number of purchases were made by participants throughout the tour. However, after thorough analysis of my notes, it seems the most prolific shopper of the evening was Max [BoF], who had been noted as stating earlier in the day, "As much as I like to shop I won't be missing this event." He wasn't kidding!

The whirlwind tour ended at the BBO Moonglow Mall, and all participants were given a complimentary souvenir runebook containing all 16 locations visited that evening. Cristina also announced plans for the next BBO event, a Chinese Auction, with details to follow.
Many of the participating shop owners plan to lock a copy of the runebook down at their location, as well as one at the Lake Austin New Player Center. In addition, if any Lake Austin citizens would like a copy of the book, you may visit the BBO Moonglow Mall (located just outside Moonglow's south gate, and leave a message with an ICQ# for Cristina on the bulletin board.

As the shopping adrenaline began to receed at last, the weary yet satisfied shoppers bid each other a fond farewell, smiling over their new purchases, but also at an evening well-spent with old and new friends alike.

Nutty Professor Kidnapped at Local Auction
Violence erupted tonight at the WB Auction as a known hired assassin burst into the building, kidnapping a prominent Lake Austin citizen.

Lord Nutty Professor, legendary blacksmith and respected merchant, was attending the auction, making his famously large purchases, and socializing with friends. Approximately 30 minutes into the auction, a rough-looking character dressed in a dark hooded robe entered the WB Auction house. He was quicky recognized by attendees of the Spring Festival as the same assassin responsible for the death of Bugs Bunny, known as "The Damned". After shouting for Lord Nutty, he was heard to say, "I have a message for you...Long have we suffered the sting of your creations! Your crimes against us will not go unpunished!". The assailant then read from an ancient scroll, "I Gothmog, curse you Nutty Professor into oblivion!" Lord Nutty then began to scream shrilly, and as the hooded man smiled wickedly, Lord Nutty vanished from the building.
Friends searched numerous places looking for clues. The perpetrator was spotted in Skara Brae and escaped, but was soon tracked to Jhelom where a long pursuit took place, eventually trapping the thug. He indicated that he had been hired by a servant of Gothmog to deliver the curse on Lord Nutty. He refused to give more information regarding Gothmog, other than to hint that the elves should know who he was, and perhaps the group should seek out a scholar if they wanted to know anything further.
The weary searchers, though concerned for Lord Nutty's safety, determined that it would be best to pick up the search after having time to think through the clues and rest after the tiring chase. Stay tuned for updates as the search continues.

*****

Breaking News on the Nutty Kidnapping A note was received by this reporter from an unnamed source within the organization of Lord Nutty Professor. As was reported last Wednesday, WB Auction attendees watched in shock as Lord Nutty was kidnapped from their midst.

A group of concerned citizens were able to track down the assailant, The Damned, and forced him to divulge the identity of his employer, the true kidnapper. Gothmog, described only as "not human", was said to be holding Nutty in an unknown location. Would-be rescuers of the victim were at a loss as to who Gothmog was and where he was to be found. Weary and concerned, they have awaited more clues by which to continue the search.
Perhaps something helpful can be gleaned from the note, an account of a very interesting meeting:
To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter due to my concerns that not enough is being done in the search and rescue of my employer Lord Nutty Professor. It is a meeting held by the high members of castle management. They seem divided and quite frankly they are just too accustomed to the easy life Lord Nutty has provided for them!
Lews Therin "Castle Manager"- Ok everyone settle down, we need to cover a few things before we adjourn. As you all know, the boss has been kidnapped. I want to hear your suggestions on the course of action we should take.
Bugs Bunny "Castle Tamer"- I say let him stay where he is for a while longer!
Dior "Castle miner" - We need to find him! The castle is running low on products and I may have to craft if he doesn't return soon!
Bugs Bunny - Right Dior, heaven forbid you may have to do some work! Your worthless!
Porky Pig "Felucca Bods"- Lews, since Nutty isn't here, may I eat his dinner?
Bugs Bunny - *glares at Porky* I haven't forgotten about that dagger you made bacon boy....
Porky Pig - *whimpers* I...I....I was only doing what I was told Bugs. *pleads* Lews! Make Bugs stop being mean to me!
Dior - I do too do things around here! *pouts*
Lews Therin - Bugs, settle down and stop upsetting the others.. Ok, this is what we have so far. Nutty goes to WB, and during the course of the auction. A known thug The Damned shows up and uses a scroll to teleport Nutty somewhere. Later, The Damned is questioned and reveals that a Demon named Gothmog is behind all of this.
Dior - Gothmog, that name sounds familiar, I think it was that thin guy that tried to return a short spear without a receipt last fall.
Bugs Bunny - You idiot! Daemons are big ugly red creatures with horns and wings and they have the ability to immolate themselves with fire! *looks menacingly at Porky* And they like ham!
Porky - *begins to shake uncontrollably*
Dior - *gives Bugs the finger*
Lews Therin - I Ban Thee!
Porky and Dior- *Laughing* Go Lews!
Lews Therin - Enough! The boss is missing and you guys are no help at all! I am going to attend WB auction and meet with them. They seem to actually care enough to maybe help me locate the boss. Dior, I need you to locate some things I can enter in the auction and Porky, I need you to let our agents know we need information on Gothmog and where his lair may be...
Porky Pig- Can I have Nutty's dinner now Lews? Lews Therin - *shakes head* Get going both of you...

LDR and WB Sponsor Nutty and Shiloh Rescue Mission We have received two new reports on the Nutty Nabbing Crisis. The first was submitted by Rose Cotton, who witnessed the horrifying events at the WB Auction House two nights ago.

Wednesday, April 14
A mysterious courier delivered a strange note at the Wild Bunch Auction on Wednesday in the continuing saga surrounding the disturbing disappearance of Nutty Professor. Instead of providing any clues into Nutty's kidnapping, the courier handed the note to WB Auctioneer Shiloh, who read the note:
"Fools! Those who would defy Gothmog shall pay with their existence!"
The scroll shimmered, and Shiloh disappeared - just as suddenly as Nutty did over a week ago!
Few clues have surfaced in the mystery, but many friends of the two prominent Britannians are determined to find them. Upon stern questioning of the messenger, friends investigating the latest incident managed to obtain a name: El Chubracabra. According to the courier, this person gave him the scroll in Nujel'm at the inn by the bank. A group of searchers headed straight to Nujel'm but found no sign of the person in question. Any further reports on the kidnappings will be provided as soon as any new information arises.
Thursday, April 15
Though the search of Nujel'm turned up nothing, concerned citizens, headed by Hunter of F^E, later located A Historian in the lower level of the great library in Jhelom. Along with others, they asked the historian for help in deciphering the recent events. Determining that the captives are most likely held at Gothmog's lair, The Historian vowed to research and find the location of the Demon's lair and reveal it to the investigators at 8:00 pm central time at the Jhelom library.
Searchers gathered at the Jhelom library to learn the Historian's findings. It was learned that Gothmog lives in more than one place, and the demon was currently in transit to his spring/summer lair in the dungeon Hythloth in Trammel. Gothmog is believed to be arriving at this location on Sunday. It is certain that the prisoners, Nutty and Shiloh, will be found there. They will most certainly be held in one of the numerous holding areas of Hythloth.
The following was submitted by Lews Therin, Lord Nutty Professor's Castle Manager, regarding a daring rescue attempt planned for this Sunday, April 18th:
The LDR guild and WB guild would like to invite all citizens to participate in this rescue mission. The rescue will take place Sunday, April 18th, at 4 pm central. Rescue teams should gather at the entrance to dungeon Hythloth in Trammel. There are a few rules.
  1. Groups may not be larger than 4 people.
  2. All groups must enter at the main entrance and search on foot. No premarked runes will be allowed for quick transport.
  3. When the captives are found. They must be escorted out the dungeon on foot and not gated or magicked out. They must arrive outside Hythloth alive. If a captive dies, he or she will return to the current level's entrance and a new group may resurrect and attempt to escort them out. Only one captive at a time per group.
Prizes... 500,000 gold will be awarded to each group that successfully brings out a captive alive. There is a chance to win up to 1,000,000 gold for the highly motivated group players.
The prizes will be awarded at the Skara Brae community center! Thanks, Lews Therin

Nutty, Shiloh Saved in Daring Rescue Mission
The community rejoiced today as two prominent Lake Austin citizens were escorted from the depths of dungeon Hythloth late this afternoon. Both were reported to be in good condition.

Guilds LDR and WB joined forces to spearhead an ambitious rescue mission for their kidnapped companions, Lord Nutty Professor and Shiloh, who had been snatched in two separate public incidents by servants of the demon Gothmog.
Guild leaders called on citizens to form escort parties to search dungeon Hythloth by foot to locate the victims. Each guild offered a staggering 1 million gold reward to the party who could bring Lord Nutty and Shiloh from the dungeon safely.
The rescue, though successful, took a heavy toll on the brave searchers. Many deaths were reported. Rumors have it that "the dwarf was the first to die", but even if true he was by no means the last. The creatures of Hythloth apparently took great offense to the invasion of their territory and wreaked havoc on all those who dared to enter.
Despite the carnage and chaos, both victims were eventually escorted to safety. The battle-weary group was transported to the Skara Brae Community Center where Lord Nutty and Shiloh expressed their gratitude, and presented rewards to their rescuers.
Lord Nutty, the first led from the dungeon, was rescued by Hunter, Cougar and Pelome. Shiloh, who was escorted out a short time later, was rescued by Rose Red and Judge Dread. Each party received a 1 million gold check.
Gratitude and congratulations to ALL of those who risked life and limb to bring our good friends Nutty and Shiloh to safety. You proved this day what the Lake Austin community is made of. Bravo!

What is "RAoLAK"? I'm Glad You Asked! I have recently been considering several ideas for ongoing story features that I believe the Lake Austin citizens would enjoy. One such feature would spotlight those experiences that exemplify true moments of nobility in our land. The characteristic of nobility is one of the most significant factors in building a foundation of strength in a community, and I believe that the spirit of that community is also made stronger when we acknowledge the contribution of certain very special people.

Many thing may come to mind at that description. Tales of brave and glorious battles? Wise words from respected members of the community? Success stories of the rich and famous? While all of these are worthy and interesting subjects, the focus of this feature will often have much more humble origins, and will transcend the boundaries of skill or title, wealth or fame, or on which side of a moongate one resides.
"Random Act of Kindness" is a common term that refers to a selfless deed performed by one individual for another individual or group of people without consideration for the cost to oneself. Nor is reward a factor, other than the satisfaction received for having touched another person's life in a positive way.
While the word "random" is really more indicative of the recipient's perspective, the reality is that showing kindness on grand terms is not truly a random event at all. Rather, it is a choice. A choice to reach outside of one's own agenda. It is my hope to celebrate on a regular basis these "moments of nobility", these positive choices to stop and perform a kind deed for another, that I have no doubt occur in our land each day.
Here is my question to each of you: Have you ever been the recipient of a purely selfless deed in your travels through our realm? When? Where were you? What was the situation you found yourself in, and what made it difficult? Who performed this deed of kindness? What did they do to help you? How did it make you feel? What would you like to say to thank them?
To get things started, I would like to hear your past "Random Acts of Lake Austin Kindness" experiences. However, my hope is to regularly spotlight these most excellent deeds as they occur, so I encourage each of you to share about those who, in humility, sacrifice for others and go on their way with no expectation of reward. For them, we will offer our respect and thanks in this special way, and at the same time encourage others to make the choices that will build nobility into the very foundation of our community. Please submit your stories to [email protected] with the subject "Random Act of Kindness".

RAoLAK Report! The following RAoLAK Report was posted by Eryn Darkthorn. For those new to our realm who may not be familiar with the term, RAoLAK stands for "Random Act of LA Kindness", and refers to those selfless deeds performed for another, often a stranger, without thought of cost, gain or reward to oneself.

Too often these kindnesses slip by with none to know of them but the grateful recipient. These reports are our way of celebrating the "moments of nobility" in our wonderful community, and giving those who wish to express their gratitude an opportunity to do so.
Here is Eryn's story:
I want to say that Lake Austin is by far the best shard in UO. Why? Because of people like yourselves... Tonight I was bored so I put out a call to the event junkies. My thought was that we could go as a group to look for the savage shaman Deval. We didn't find her, but the hodgepodge of people had a great time anyways. I even talked one poor soul into joining the order of cheese (see the guild thread in a minute). That's what this shard is about. It's taking a group of peeps and having a good time, even with peeps you don't know so well.. So after the group disbanded I went to the bank on my tamer hoping for some vet gains. Nobody knows Dorothy but I was talking to a friend and he asked me why I was riding a regular old horse and I told him my mare and unicorn were bonding and I didn't have a wyrm yet. This stranger named Wombles saw us talking and said, "You need a wyrm? I think I have an extra" and proceeded to take me to the stables.. Well he didn't have one, so what did he do? He went and tamed one for me! That's right.. for someone he didn't even know! This from a Brit bank guy! (y'all know about my britbankophobia) This is what I am talking about.. Even at Brit bank we have good peeps!
And so goes the story of this Random Act of Lake Austin Kindness. Have you ever been the recipient of a purely selfless deed in your travels through our realm? When? Where were you? What was the situation you found yourself in, and what made it difficult? Who performed this deed of kindness? What did they do to help you? How did it make you feel? RAoLAK Report! As a brand new adventurer in Britannia there is so much to learn, and the gaining of that knowledge is often a slow and painstaking process. We quickly forget how overwhelming those first days and weeks can be.

Yet there exist those noble few who have not forgotten. Those who give of their time, knowledge and often their own possessions to give new adventurers a solid and memorable start on their journey in this realm. It is in tribute to one such noble soul that this Random Act of Lake Austin Kindness was shared.
I started playing UO on my husband's account (then boyfriend). I loved the game so much that I got my own account, but the week before I did, I ran into a player by the name of Lord Xion. I was trying to mount my horse and forgot to get out of war mode.
He came by and gave me a beetle, and taught me some things about UO that my husband forgot to tell me. You know, life altering things like...don't ever go through a red gate unless you want to go to Felucca. We walked around and talked for hours, and he showed me all the things he had learned and wanted to pass on. Then he invited me to his house (which was in Felucca) and showed me around. Then out of the kindness of his heart, he gave me a 115 Veterinary scroll. He later tamed a bull for me to kill and let me have the gains.
I have been looking for Lord Xion, but never seem to find him. When I got my new account, I built a beautiful house two houses down from my husbands, but wish I could have found my new friend again, to show him all he taught me hadn't gone to waste. For all Lord Xion knew, I could have been a millionaire, but he gave me so much more than scrolls, or gains that day. He gave me my unquenchable thirst for the game, and my desire to meet more people and just get along. Asil Rellim
May this tale encourage the veterans of our realm to open their eyes and hearts to the young adventurers among us. What a wonderful opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences with others, set an admirable example as a mentor to our newest citizens, and in so doing, play a significant role in shaping our community.
The following report has quite the interesting twist. In the process of carrying out a wonderfully notable good deed of his own, this good citizen found himself on the receiving end of a Random Act of Lake Austin Kindness.
My real life brother likes to play UO an hour or two each day but is certainly not a power player. I placed a small two story house for him right next to mine about a year ago which filled up with all the loot he was acclimating over the year. After the recent change to housing decay I noticed an 18x18 one screen away from our houses that was going to collapse. I kept an eye on the house until one day the plot was empty. I quickly logged online with his character and placed an 18x18 for him. I decided not to let him know that I placed the house until it was designed, decorated, and I had moved all of his belongings there. I would have loved to see his face when he logged online in the morning and was in this nice big house.
Anyway, just after I had finished all the decorating, and run out of gold to spend on items for the new house, some guy named Mars Dragon King, who lived next door to my brothers new house, stopped by to take a look at the finished house. Now, keep in mind that neither my brother or I have ever met this guy before now. So we walk all through the house and he commented on how nice the house came out. Then he said, "There are just a few things missing to complete the decorating, come over to my place I’ve got a few things you can have." Wow, he unlocked a lot of items from his own house to give to my brother. He gave him two Lamp Post, two Stag Heads, two Braziers, and two Pentagrams. I could not believe he had given up these expensive items from his own house to help make my brothers first big home so nice. And, you know what? He was right. Those items made the final touch. My brother was real surprised and loves his new home.
I’ve not seen Mars Dragon King since but will never forget his Random Act of Kindness. Max GM Band of Friends Guild Owner of Elysuims Gate Mall
And so because of two individuals, a fortunate citizen of our land has a lovely new place to call home (see below). Two strangers crossing paths, then working together to help someone else, the kindness of one giving opportunity for the kindness of another.

What would you like to say to thank them? RAoLAK Report! Lothiel, elf maiden of EoL, was walking the woods of Moonglow seeking to tame a herd of cows for a reporting assignment early this afternoon. In the vicinity of the moongate, a mysterious gentleman caught her attention. He began to ask her questions, as if to test her knowledge of geography and mathematics. He could not have known that he spoke with one schooled in the ways of elves, not of humans, yet he sought to continue his questioning. He perceived, likely due to the cow hovering closely to the girl, that a question in regards to taming might garner a more knowledgeable response. And right he was, for she quickly satisfied his inquiry of how many pets one might own at a time with a confident answer of "5".

Upon hearing her correct response, he offered her a gift with which to remember this unusual occasion. And so with a smile he gave her a blessed fire-colored sash, engraved with a special message, as well as a gift box full of Christmas items. She assured the generous stranger that she would treasure his gifts always, and indeed she wears the sash proudly even now.
As he turned to leave, he said with a knowing smile, "Remember, random acts of kindness are the best thing." And laughing, he returned from whence he came. The kind stranger's name was Sir Tonster.
Skara Brae Community Center of LA Opens
Nyssa dropped by the WB auction on Wednesday night to announce the opening of the new Skara Brae Community Center. The building, previously the Councilor's Guild Hall in Skara Brae, Trammel, was converted and decorated by Sannio. It is an extremely spacious building with loads of seating, dart boards, a bar and a large central stage. It makes a wonderful location for meetings, events and other planned gatherings, as well as a great place to simply relax and meet others.

Several citizens dropped by the new center following the auction to have a look around, admire the lovely decor, and a few even enjoyed a friendly game of darts.

[SIZE=+1]Grand Wedding Held for DeathViper and Twinkie![/SIZE]
by El of LA and EvangelineUO
I was honored to attend the wedding last Saturday evening of DeathViper (DV) and Twinkie, both of the Ice Cove Auction House.
The wedding was officiated by Pacem of the Lake Austin Church.
Angelicka created a romantic house design to hold this ceremony. It was lavishly decorated and looked very dramatic and festive!

The Guests were assembled to watch the weddings vows being exchanged, and the exchange of rings.

Deathviper only protested a little bit during the ritual, and was soundly scolded from all quarters when he did!

The beautiful ceremony ended with a kiss, lots of applause, and happiness throughout those gathered around.

The wedding reception was lavish with fireworks, fine food, and happy conversation. Following the feast the group adjourned to play the newest game in town, Mongbat Darts!

Anyone who knows Twinkie and Deathviper knows that their wedding just had to be spectacular, and the expectations were met and more! Congratulations go out to the happy couple and those who helped bring this great wedding event together.
Long life and great happiness Twinkie and DV!

Re: Our Events: A History - Village of Fenwich Jousting Arena

One part of LA's history is after Malas opened. I placed a 18x18 next to the road down from Luna and made my medieval castle and village - called Village of Fenwich and Fenwich Castle. Lady Rose (my character at the time) held 4 jousting tournaments there over 2003. Two are recorded at my personal web site http://www.mac512.com/Ultima_Online.html

Lady Rose changed her name to Lady Keira and started new adventures.

Running the jousting arena was a lot of fun. This is a part of LA that was unique as I had people coming from other shards to see this special part of LA. Over the past years I have thought of bringing the jousting arena back. The "downside" was the jousters had to become part of the same guild (temporary guild).
