Greetings and a Hi to you 2.
It is always nice when we get a visit from an old boards poster.
Yes, 11 years later and Lady Lava is still around kicking and still loving her UO.
I can give you a little run down from "my point of view" as to the current life on Great Lakes.
It appears we have indeed lost population but that has not made the game less enjoyable.
There is new content and tons of new pixel crack. Many old timers enjoyed the seas but would bore of it because of not enough options. That has changed with High Seas and those old salty dogs are loving the new adventures. One of the oldest Great Lakes guilds FCB is still around and enjoying the new breeze on the sea.
On the subject of guilds many of the old guilds are gone but some are still active but with fewer members.
As you know BC ( Black Company ) left a few years back and the majority of them play WoW. Last summer I did get together with a few old BC members while on vacation in Michigan. They tried to get me hooked on WoW but I did not bite. The fact that we look down on the/our world in UO is a huge plus for me. Shooter games and games played on the horizon line give me head aches.
Felucca is a pale shade of what it once was but there is still action to be found there.
The two main Fel guilds are DC* ( Dragon Clan ) and CREW.
DC* would never be if BC had never left Great Lakes. They use large numbers rather than amazing skills ( BC used both ). There are many great people in DC* and even more not so great.
CREW is a smaller guild but the members seem to have more guts and willing to take more chances. They appear to really be having fun.
Some things that never change with the Fel set and that is the trash talk and everyone boasting they are better than someone else. Some things never change even after year after year.
Of course there is the we raided your spawn and we got all the powerscrolls and not you, ha ha ha. At this point in the game unless you are a new player knowone needs powerscrolls so it seems rather silly. Now imo if one truly wanted to show their pvp skills it should be in tournaments one vs one, or even a group lets say of five vs. five.
At this writing I am in five different guilds so I see things from different perspectives which is rather amusing and fun. By no means am I a PvPer, though I go to Fel weekly. My six months as a PvPer on Baja years ago proved that I suck at it. I am a Tram girl thru and thru and I love killing my monsters.
The largest guild on Great Lakes has seesawed the past year and -Y- is the largest Tram guild and often the largest in general on this shard. Unlike most of the other larger guilds the guild master of this guild is extremely helpful and a truly nice person. Pretty much all the Tram guilds get a long and I must say I like them all.
As you noted there is very little PvP talk on this board unlike years past where this was a hotbed of drama. They have taken their drama and vitriol to another location. That does not mean one cannot find that if that is what turns one on. We have General Chat now where the entire shard can to talk to one another. It is a very helpful tool. It is also a place for people to slam one another. I rarely stay in this form of chat more than 30 minutes per day. It gets very active when one Fel based guild raids another and then the bragging, untruths and nastiness flys like the wind. Mainly untruths not only about in game events but also untrue personal attacks. Some things never change in the gaming world.
Of course there are new bosses and new monsters to kill since you left and there are new crafts and skills.
One of the best things that has happened and brought new breath are the EM Events and the EMs in general. Great Lakes has two of the most active and best imo.
It was nice of you to drop in on us.
Fondly, Lady Lava
p.s. There are still player run events like CFC and MOA.
